<p>Wizards of the Coast is partnering with the National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC), and that partnership is coming in the form of a brand-new Secret Lair called <em>Nuestra Magia</em>.</p>
<p>The cards featured in the release were created with the input of multiple Latinx artists. Even the langauge usage on the cards themselves was selected in line with the partnership; alternate names in Spanish and Portuguese were used on select cards, such as "<em>La abundancia de Yúcahu</em>," or, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sylvan Library" href="#" target="_blank">Sylvan Library</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>Two different versions of this drop are available for purchase. One is printed with Spanish and Portuguese rules text, while the other is printed with English rules text. Both versions of the drop will be available in non-foil and rainbow foil. <em>Nuestra Magia </em>is set for release on June 16 at 9 a.m. PST and will be available through July 13.</p>

<p>Listed prices for <em>Nuestra Magia</em> are $29.99 USD for non-foil version, and $39.99 USD for the rainbow foil. Wizards of the Coast said fifty percent of the product price will be donated to The National Association of Latino Arts and Cultures.</p>

<p>According to Wizards of the Coast, all of the Secret Lair division's philanthropic drops are concepted, designed, and led by the individuals who identify with the communities these drops support.</p>
<p><em>Nuestra Magia </em>as a project was led by long-time Wizards of the Coast Art Director <a href="https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3Aovidio">Ovidio Cartagena</a>, who for this drop served as Creative Lead.</p>
<p>"Putting together the ideas for this set was a very exciting challenge," recalled Cartagena. "Anyone who has traveled across Latinoamérica has seen there is a wide range of cultures, accents, and languages that populate several types of landscapes. And so, in choosing the themes for this release, we went for a combination of specific cultural references (Yucahú, O Anhangá) and general themes that can be seen in many cultures (Food token)."</p>
<p>Cartagena said the talent people have brought to the set has been "incredible," featuring a healthy mix of artistic styles directed by Anthony Garzzona. "(It) gives audiences a taste of how varied and rich a road trip through the Américas could be. As I went over the art and concepts presented here, I was reminded of my own cultural heritage, and also that of the people I've met from all over the continent, their stories, and their customs," said Cartagena. "These cards will get fans inspired and excited to learn about Latinoamérica's cultures and people. To my Latinx friends: I hope that, like me, you see a part of yourselves in these cards; they were made thinking of the struggle that unites us and the beauty that makes us so diverse."</p>

Upcoming Secret Lair to Raise Money for Latino Org

<p>Summer is coming, and with it, a new <em>Secret Lair</em> superdrop! <em>Summer Superdrop 2025</em> is launching on June 9th at 9 AM Pacific Time (or Noon Eastern Time). Let's go over the different drops that this superdrop contains!</p>
<h2><em>Magic: The Gathering x Final Fantasy</em></h2>
<p>We've already covered these <em>Secret Lair</em> drops in another article, but to recap, these three drops will cost $29.99 for nonfoil and $39.99 in foil. There are three <em>Final Fantasy</em>-themed drops in total: One themed after some of the series' villains, one themed after the heroes' magic, and one themed after famous weapons from the series.</p>

<h2><em>Artist Series: Phil Foglio</em></h2>
<p>Classic <em>Magic</em> artist <a href="https://www.studiofoglio.com/"><strong>Phil Foglio</strong></a> is a perennial favorite for many players. His oftentimes zany, painterly work draws players to the game and hearkens back to the olden days of the game. And now, he's been commissioned to create a <em>Secret Lair</em>! This drop features multiple red and green cards. The most mechanically notable of these may be a timely reprint of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Constant Mists" href="#" target="_blank">Constant Mists</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. However, his <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Orcish Lumberjack" href="#" target="_blank">Orcish Lumberjack</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is also just so aesthetically Foglio. <p>Mangaka and illustrator <a href="https://www.goodreads.com/author/list/2924716.Imiri_Sakabashira"><strong>Imiri Sakabashira</strong></a> has also got a <em>Secret Lair</em> drop! Wizards of the Coast describes his work as "a dream halfway through a kaiju fight", and "straight out of a movie". We are inclined to agree!</p>

While badges are currently on sale, some people understandably can't make it to Nevada for a <em>Magic: The Gathering</em> convention. What's a <em>Magic</em> player to do? Well, tomorrow, you can fret much less about fear of missing out on the convention! MagicCon Las Vegas's <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/festival-in-a-box">Festival In A Box</a> goes on sale on Monday, May 19th at 9 AM Pacific Time (or Noon Eastern Time).</p>
<p>But what does this event's Festival In A Box contain? Read on, and we'll outline it for you.</p>
<h2>Festival In A Box Contents</h2>
<p>The Festival In A Box for MagicCon Las Vegas has a few really cool things going for it. There's a <em>Mystery Booster 2</em> booster box, exclusive promotional cards, and even a super-exclusive <em>Secret Lair</em> drop! Let's dive into the particulars:</p>
<h3><em>Mystery Booster 2</em></h3>
<p>To start, the Festival In A Box package contains <span style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">an <em>MB2</em> box</span>. This set is a conglomerate of practically all sets up to a certain point, with some of the wildest cards from each within its bounds. Beyond this, each pack has card slots for "Futureshifted" cards (AKA cards with the special frame from <em>Future Sight</em>), white bordered reprints, and even a playtest card! There's even a slim (yet still nonzero) chance that you could find foil cards that, financially, could make up a large chunk of the cost of the package.</p>
<p>Truly, <em>Mystery Booster 2</em> is a unique Limited experience, to say nothing of how awesome many of the reprints in the set are. <h2>Festival In A Box Details</h2>
<p>Last year's Festival In A Box for MagicCon Las Vegas was priced at $249.99. However, prices have since shifted for previous events, and this one may cost closer to $200 based on content and precedent. The verdict is currently out, so it could honestly go either way. You'll be able to order the Festival In A Box on May 19th at 9 AM Pacific Time, or Noon Eastern Time. Secret Lair X Final Fantasy: Three New Drops Revealed

<p>On Monday, May 12th, at approximately 9 AM Pacific (Noon Eastern), Wizards of the Coast will drop <em>The Ultimate Pencil Superdrop</em> for <em>Secret Lair</em>. We broke down <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/secret-lair-reveals-the-ultimate-pencil-superdrop">the contents of this drop</a> for you back in April, but we felt it was keen to remind you on that day. Since that day is today, let's dive into it!</p>
<p>As a quick reminder, <em>Secret Lair</em> drops now operate on a limited print run system. This means they're no longer printed to demand. Therefore, if you want any particular drop, you should plan to get it soon.</p>
<p>But there's another important thing to keep in mind. As is the case for each superdrop, the cards in these drops come in two or three different styles. Why does this matter? Simply put, it's a matter of price. If you misclick on something, you could be paying between $10 and $60 more. For some reason, the raised foil versions of <em>Everything Is On Fire</em> and <em><i>VroooOOOMMMMMM!</i></em> are both $99.99. To this end, we noted back in April that it's a lot of money, but not enough to solely cover free shipping. Ideally, the bonus card in each of those drops would make up the financial slack. However, that's never a sure bet at this time of the drop's release cycle. You'll have to wait to learn more about the bonus cards in question.</p>

<p>Speaking of prices, nonfoil copies of each of these drops are $29.99, while rainbow foil drops are $39.99. Mechanically speaking, only a handful of these drops come close to hitting either of those marks. Most notably, the drop titled <em>Secret Lair x KEXP: You Are Not Alone</em> stands out as a great value acquisition. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Font of Mythos|SLD|2075" href="#" target="_blank">Font of Mythos</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Concordant Crossroads|SLD|2073" href="#" target="_blank">Concordant Crossroads</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are still fairly expensive cards at around $17 apiece. A foil copy of Font of Mythos almost costs the same as a rainbow foil copy of that drop.</p>

<p>On Tuesday, April 22nd, Chaos Vault, the newest initiative for <em>Secret Lair</em>, released <a href="https://secretlair.wizards.com/us/product/1107793/adventures-of-the-little-witch">"Adventures of the Little Witch"</a>, its newest drop. This drop contains four cards with art by illustrator <a href="https://heikala.com/"><strong>Heikala</strong></a>. Are these cards particularly valuable, and do they have a home in any <em>Magic</em> decks? Read on, and find out!</p>
<h2>Chaos Vault Description of "Adventures of the Little Witch"</h2>
<p>According to the description of this new drop, "These reprints were individually selected to go with the art style and tone of Heikala's amazing work, and we think they turned out great." The art features a cozy, almost cottagecore vibe reminiscent of Studio Ghibli's <em>Kiki's Delivery Service</em> or other films by <strong>Hayao Miyazaki</strong>. Inspired by Miyazaki or not, it can be said that Heikala's illustrations for this drop are calm and light.</p>

<h2>Does "Adventures" Hold Up?</h2>
<p>While cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Esika&#039;s Chariot" href="#" target="_blank">Esika&#039;s Chariot</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> saw play in Standard and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Realms Uncharted" href="#" target="_blank">Realms Uncharted</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> sees some play in Commander, these cards do not seem to be standouts. None of them currently boasts a particularly high price tag in normal iterations. It remains to be seen if Heikala's art will change that for these versions. Nevertheless, if you like these cards and either plan to use them or want to collect the superb and cozy art, there's nothing wrong with picking up a copy of this drop.</p>
<p>"Adventures of the Little Witch" is currently selling on the <em>Secret Lair</em> webstore under the Chaos Vault subset. It sells at a price point of $29.99 for nonfoil, but for some reason, it is $59.99 <a href="https://secretlair.wizards.com/us/product/1107792/adventures-of-the-little-witch-foil-edition">in foil</a>. This is a different pricing than previous foil <em>Secret Lair</em> drops, of this distinction or otherwise. Does this mean there's something more to the foil iterations? This is currently unclear.</p>

Chaos Vault Releases "Adventures of the Little Witch" Drop

<p>The Spotlight Series is headed to Japan for the first time.</p>
<p>Wizards of the Coast announced the company’s ongoing Spotlight Series will be hosting <em>Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY </em>in Chiba, Japan this summer.</p>
<p>According to Wizards, the Magic Spotlight: FINAL FANTASY event "will feature the excitement of competitive Magic and the impact of the <em>FINAL FANTASY</em> series with a high-stakes main event and an assortment of engaging side events offering something for every type of fan." In collaboration with Japanese retailer <a href="https://mtg.bigmagic.net/top.html">BIG MAGIC</a>, Magic Spotlight: FINAL FANTASY is a three-day event running from June 27–29 in Chiba, with a two-day open field tournament where competitors will face off in Standard Constructed format for a share of a $50,000 USD prize pool. The top eight players from the event will receive invitations to the Pro Tour Edge of Eternities tournament at MagicCon: Atlanta (Sept. 26-28).</p>
<p>Each participant in Magic Spotlight: FINAL FANTASY's main event will receive a non-foil Japanese-language borderless promo card featuring a card from the upcoming Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY release. Additionally, the Top 128 competitors in the event will receive traditional foil copies of that promo card. In addition to the main event, Magic Spotlight: FINAL FANTASY will host multiple side events with a variety of formats on display.</p>
<p>This event is free to enter, however there is a maximum capacity in the venue, so fans should check for specific information about access to the venue closer to the event. Entry into the $50,000 prize pool main event will require the purchase of a ticket when registration opens, and limited seating is available. Full details will be available on the website for Magic Spotlight: FINAL FANTASY. The site goes live on Wednesday, April 16, with registration opening the next day, April 17 at Noon JST.</p>
<p>Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY launches June 13, with the set representing a rich universe with iconic elements that fans have come to love over the franchise's history. Fans will see characters from every mainline FINAL FANTASY game, each depicted through the lens of <em>Magic: The Gathering</em>. The set is available for preorder now at local game stores, online retailers like Amazon, and elsewhere <em>Magic</em> products are sold.</p>
<p>This upcoming set features the largest collection of FINAL FANTASY artwork ever in a single game, drawing from across the franchise. <em>Magic</em> artists have brought moments from FINAL FANTASY to life in their own unique style while classic FINAL FANTASY art pieces make appearances on these epic cards. Fans will see their favorite stories, characters and moments from FINAL FANTASY depicted across <em>Magic</em> cards, with these icons of the series captured on over 100 legendary creature cards across the entire release.</p>
<p><strong>What is the Spotlight Series?</strong></p>
<p>The <a href="https://magic.gg/spotlight">Magic Spotlight Series</a> is a collection of open invite events that lets anyone play high-level <em>Magic </em>to win significant prizes. The next Spotlight Series event is slated for <a href="https://scgcon.starcitygames.com/event/scg-con-indianapolis-2025/">May 30-June 1 in Indianapolis, Indiana</a>, centered around a "Secret Lair" theme, and will be organized by Star City Games.
