On February 9th, Wizards of the Coast is launching the Roll for Initiative Superdrop, a mega-collaboration between Magic: The Gathering and their sister team for Dungeons & Dragons. This batch of Secret Lair drops hearkens back to releases from Adventures in the Forgotten Realms and Commander Legends: Battle for Baldur's Gate, the two D&D-collaborative releases for Magic.
What's in these drops, and, of perhaps more importance, are these drops any good? Read on, and we'll venture our guesses!
Shadowheart's Devotion
This drop and one other (detailed later in this article), take after recent drops themed after Karlach, Fury of AvernusKarlach, Fury of Avernus and Astarion, the DecadentAstarion, the Decadent. They detail pivotal moments in the character's journey, trials, and tribulations. The drop also features the character's card in particular.
In this case, the character is Shadowheart, a much-beloved character from the massively popular video game Baldur's Gate III. Her card left a fair amount to be desired, but BG3 players will still probably want this drop for their own collections, partly thanks to the inclusion of Ancient Copper DragonAncient Copper Dragon.
Shadowheart's Devotion contains the following five cards:
- Shadowheart, Dark JusticiarShadowheart, Dark Justiciar
- Beseech the QueenBeseech the Queen
- Black MarketBlack Market
- VictimizeVictimize
- Ancient Bronze DragonAncient Bronze Dragon
Shadowheart's Devotion will go for $29.99 in nonfoil and $39.99 in foil.
Gale's Ambition
The second of the two drops featuring a prolific BG3 character is Gale's Ambition, which, as you may have already guessed, features Gale, Waterdeep ProdigyGale, Waterdeep Prodigy. This drop contains the relevant legendary creature as well as a few extremely blue cards, including Personal TutorPersonal Tutor as the key "money card" in the drop. Gale fans will want to pick up this drop, as will players who want a bunch of jazzed-up versions of the blue staple cards in the drop.

Black Lights & Dark Dungeons
The next Secret Lair drop in this list is an homage to those really neat blacklight posters from your college days. Black Lights & Dark Dungeons has four cards that all work well with its key legendary creature, Sefris of the Hidden WaysSefris of the Hidden Ways. It's honestly one of the coolest drops in this superdrop, but if the aesthetics don't immediately catch you, the inclusion of Displacer KittenDisplacer Kitten might.

Shadows Over Baldur's Gate
This drop is pretty neat, with Prosper, Tome-BoundProsper, Tome-Bound as the key legendary creature inclusion and the rest of the drop supporting their theme. Furthermore, the drop is notably the first inclusion with Wild-Magic SorcererWild-Magic Sorcerer with its most current errata (as it's now, rightly, a Sorcerer).

Whispers in Candlekeep
Even in the context of Magic: The Gathering, what is a game of Dungeons & Dragons without at least one Dragon? The Whispers in Candlekeep drop has not one, but two Dragons cards in it! These two formidable cards are Miirym, Sentinel WyrmMiirym, Sentinel Wyrm, the key legend for the drop, and Klauth, Unrivaled AncientKlauth, Unrivaled Ancient, a remarkable and pricey Dragon.

Strahd's Descent
Next, we have Strahd's Descent. I know this one is fairly controversial because many Dungeons & Dragons die-hards wanted original designs for Strahd. However, this is probably the next best thing if we can't get that. Anyway, as expected, we got Strefan, Maurer ProgenitorStrefan, Maurer Progenitor, reskinned as "The Devil Strahd" (performing his best rendition of the "Family Guy" intro theme as he can). Furthermore, this drop features a reskin of Bloodletter of AclazotzBloodletter of Aclazotz as one of Strahd's consorts.

Secret Lair x Dungeons & Dragons: Lands of the Forgotten Realms
Finally, we have a pair of each major basic land themed after D&D, presented in a full-art style. This drop contains ten total basic lands:
Like the other drops in this collection, Lands of the Forgotten Realms will sell at a price point of $29.99 nonfoil and $39.99 foil.
Conclusion
There are probably plenty of reasons to bite with this superdrop. Some of these cards are likely well worth their price point, at least in nonfoil. I know I, personally, won't be doing so, but last year was a big one for Secret Lair drops, and I believe I went a little overboard, myself. But I'm not you, so take from that what you will!
Nevertheless, I'd like to now open the floor to you, dear readers. Do any of these Secret Lair drops appeal to you? Will you be purchasing any of them? Sound off in the comments below!
