MagicCon Vegas 2025: A Recap

<p>On Saturday, June 21st, Wizards of the Coast officially announced the dates and locations of their MagicCon events for 2026. What's more, they did it in a YouTube video, which may or may not have had a few <em>Secret</em> easter eggs hidden in it. What are the dates and locations, and what do the easter eggs mean? Let's dive into this!</p>
<h2>MagicCon Dates and Locations</h2>
<p>According to the official event site <a href="https://www.mtgfestivals.com/global/en-us.html">MagicFestivals.com</a>, the dates and locations for MagicCon in 2026 list the following pieces of information:</p>

<p>These event locations aren't anything too terribly new. However, it's worth noting that the conventions will return to these places again, especially for those in the area.</p>
<p>Now, we don't have any promo card information nor any confirmation one way or another. But, the YouTube video promoting these dates may hold a secret or more within it.</p>
<h2>A <em>Secret Lair</em> Teaser?</h2>
<p>As mentioned above, a YouTube video accompanied the location and date information for next year's set of MagicCon events. In that YouTube promo video, we see multiple references to the Elder Dragons of the <em>Legends</em> expansion.</p>

<p>Pausing this, you can see posters for <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Palladia-Mors" href="#" target="_blank">Palladia-Mors</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Chromium" href="#" target="_blank">Chromium</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Nicol Bolas" href="#" target="_blank">Nicol Bolas</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. In an earlier still, you can see an ad for "Arcades' Arcade", a reference to the Elder Dragon <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Arcades Sabboth" href="#" target="_blank">Arcades Sabboth</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. These poster-style ads are in various art styles befitting of a <em>Secret Lair</em> drop. Does this mean that players will have copies of these cards in a drop? Will it be Commander-At-Home for 2026? This is entirely plausible, but as we don't have concrete confirmation, you are best off taking this as a rumor for now.</p>

<p>On the night of Thursday, June 19th, Wizards of the Coast officially revealed the full card for <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tezzeret, Cruel Captain" href="#" target="_blank">Tezzeret, Cruel Captain</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This <em>Edge of Eternities</em> card is going to be a hit amongst artifact fans of all kinds! But what does the card do, and why is it such a hyped centerpiece for the set? Read on, and learn more!</p>
<h2>Tezzeret's Various In-Game Applications</h2>
<p>Currently, neither we nor Scryfall have a good render of the card handy, as most of the assets available come from photographs of the render. However, the shots we have, all thanks to fans at MagicCon Las Vegas's Black Lotus VIP Lounge, show a complete card. As such, we feel it appropriate to share it here:</p>

<p>Tezzeret, Cruel Captain is a 4-loyalty planeswalker card for <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-3" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span> with no conventional means to gain loyalty. However, he has a <em>very</em> strong triggered ability that gains him the loyalty needed to survive. And boy howdy, does he ever gain it! Gaining one loyalty counter whenever an artifact you control enters, Tezzeret <em>could</em> activate his -7 ultimate loyalty ability on the turn he comes in. However, he's more useful for his -3 ability, which tutors up an artifact of mana value 1 or less. This is powerful in <em>so many formats</em>. Many Commander players will automatically recognize that this Tezzeret can immediately tutor up a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sol Ring" href="#" target="_blank">Sol Ring</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>And don't misunderstand me. Sol Ring is great, but Vintage players are apt to want to use Tezzeret to tutor up a Moxen card like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mox Sapphire" href="#" target="_blank">Mox Sapphire</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, or a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Black Lotus" href="#" target="_blank">Black Lotus</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. In Modern, players will be able to tutor up a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mox Opal" href="#" target="_blank">Mox Opal</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, previously banned until very recently. Legacy's expansive player base seems to have it best here. They are able to tutor up <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lion&#039;s Eye Diamond" href="#" target="_blank">Lion&#039;s Eye Diamond</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> or basically any Mox that's legal in the format.</p>
<h2>Tezzeret, Living Life on the <em>Edge of Eternities</em></h2>
<p>This card is undeniably strong. Furthermore, his art, illustrated by <em>Magic</em> artist <strong><a href="https://www.rahnart.com/">Chris Rahn</a></strong>, is stunning and dramatic, perfectly fitting for a space opera-style setting.</p>
<p>How would you use Tezzeret, Cruel Captain? Hopefully, the card has its use in <em>Edge of Eternities</em> Limited, so it's not a bust to open him in your Draft or Prerelease Sealed pools. Nevertheless, the card is fantastic.</p>

Edge Of Eternities - Tezzeret, Cruel Captain Officially Revealed

<p>Running from June 20th through June 22nd, MagicCon Las Vegas is just around the corner! While badges are currently on sale, some people understandably can't make it to Nevada for a <em>Magic: The Gathering</em> convention. What's a <em>Magic</em> player to do? Well, tomorrow, you can fret much less about fear of missing out on the convention! MagicCon Las Vegas's <a href="https://magic.wizards.com/en/products/festival-in-a-box">Festival In A Box</a> goes on sale on Monday, May 19th at 9 AM Pacific Time (or Noon Eastern Time).</p>
<p>But what does this event's Festival In A Box contain? Read on, and we'll outline it for you.</p>
<h2>Festival In A Box Contents</h2>
<p>The Festival In A Box for MagicCon Las Vegas has a few really cool things going for it. There's a <em>Mystery Booster 2</em> booster box, exclusive promotional cards, and even a super-exclusive <em>Secret Lair</em> drop! Let's dive into the particulars:</p>
<h3><em>Mystery Booster 2</em></h3>
<p>To start, the Festival In A Box package contains <span style="box-sizing: border-box; margin: 0px; padding: 0px;">an <em>MB2</em> box</span>. This set is a conglomerate of practically all sets up to a certain point, with some of the wildest cards from each within its bounds. Beyond this, each pack has card slots for "Futureshifted" cards (AKA cards with the special frame from <em>Future Sight</em>), white bordered reprints, and even a playtest card! There's even a slim (yet still nonzero) chance that you could find foil cards that, financially, could make up a large chunk of the cost of the package.</p>
<p>Truly, <em>Mystery Booster 2</em> is a unique Limited experience, to say nothing of how awesome many of the reprints in the set are. <h3>MagicCon Las Vegas Exclusive <em>Secret Lair: Slay the Day</em></h3>
<p>The next thing we'll discuss is <em>Slay the Day</em>, the <em>Secret Lair</em> drop exclusive to this Festival In A Box. This drop contains four cards with stunning art illustrated by <a href="https://craigdrakeart.com/"><strong>Craig Drake</strong></a>. The cards in this drop are:</p>

<p>Currently, there's no word on whether or not there's a bonus card included with <em>Slay the Day</em>, but it's not improbable!</p>
<h3>Festival In A Box Exclusive Promos</h3>
<p>Finally, the Festival In A Box for MagicCon Las Vegas has three promotional cards included on top of the <em>Secret Lair</em> and the box of <em>MB2</em>. Those cards are the following:</p>

<p>For all it's worth, it's pleasant to see that there are now artist credits on the printed playtest cards. <strong>Mark Rosewater</strong> has still got his artistic chops!</p>
<h2>Festival In A Box Details</h2>
<p>Last year's Festival In A Box for MagicCon Las Vegas was priced at $249.99. However, prices have since shifted for previous events, and this one may cost closer to $200 based on content and precedent. The verdict is currently out, so it could honestly go either way. You'll be able to order the Festival In A Box on May 19th at 9 AM Pacific Time, or Noon Eastern Time. The sale will go up on the official <a href="https://secretlair.wizards.com/"><em>Secret Lair</em></a> website.</p>

<p>There's always plenty to do at MagicCon events. From professional play, to panels, all the way to Commander pickup games, MagicCon is always a blast for those who join in on the fun. But now, for <a href="https://magic.gg/news/celebrating-final-fantasy-at-magiccon-las-vegas" target="_blank" rel="noopener">MagicCon: Las Vegas</a>, there is even more incentive to reserve a spot! The event will, in part, celebrate <em>Wizards of the Coast</em>'s collaboration with <em>Square Enix</em> on <em>Magic: The Gathering's</em> upcoming <em>Final Fantasy</em> set.</p>
<h2><em>Final Fantasy</em>-themed Promo Yoshimaru</h2>
<p>There is a special surprise for fans of <em>FFXVI</em>'s goodest boy. If you attend MagicCon: Las Vegas this year, you will receive a promotional copy of Torgal, Clive's Companion. <h2>The Making of <em>MTGxFF</em></h2>
