MagicCon Las Vegas Preview Panel: Edge of Eternities And More

MagicCon Las Vegas is well underway! On Friday, June 20th, Wizards of the Coast previewed a fair number of cards from Edge of Eternities. Not only this, however. They also showed a card from Avatar: The Last Airbender and some art from the much-anticipated return to Lorwyn! Let's take a look at what the preview panel showed panel-goers.

Edge of Eternities at MagicCon Las Vegas

Edge of Eternities is assured to have some really, really weird shifts from the norm of conventional in-universe Magic lore. For one, spatial anomalies are seemingly represented as enchantments. Creatures look remarkably alien compared to the usual counterparts of the Multiverse we currently know. Furthermore, this may be a land-matters set judging by the bonus sheet reprint of MutavaultMutavault and in-set reprints of five of the shock lands. These five shocks are the only shocklands we will be getting in Standard with this set, but more may be forthcoming soon.

But enough of my chatter for a moment. Here are the cards we saw from the main set of Edge of Eternities! (All EOE images are credited to Wizards of the Coast.)

Spacecrafts in Edge of Eternities

Sometimes, a Vehicle isn't quite enough to explain an ambulatory vessel. Starting with Edge of Eternities, Wizards of the Coast is introducing the Spacecraft artifact type. These are animated by tapping creatures to add their power's worth of charge counters to a Spacecraft. The use of charge counters here is certainly of interest, as they are a more common counter type than most. When the spacecraft gets to a certain number of charge counters, the Spacecraft becomes a creature and gains additional abilities.

Here is one example. Say hello to The Seriema!

Notably, these Spacecraft cards may have other ways to animate besides just the station mechanic. Furthermore, a big rules change comes with this new artifact subtype: legendary Spacecraft and Vehicles are now eligible to be commanders!

Bonus Sheet Mutavault

Also notable for Edge of Eternities, we are getting a bonus sheet for the set that presumably contains extraplanar anomalies of various kinds. We have currently seen only one card from said bonus sheet, but two iterations of the card. Here is that card:

According to the filename we got for these iterations of bonus sheet cards, these are bonus sheet lands. This would hardly be remarkable except that this implies that the bonus sheet is a full sheet of land cards. Does this mean that the set is lands-matter in theme? The public verdict is currently out on that.

Edge of Eternities Commander Deck Faces

Beyond the main set, at the MagicCon Las Vegas preview panel, we also got cards from the Commander precons that will accompany Edge of Eternities.

It appears that the two Commander precons will have themes of counter manipulation and lands-matter, respectively. Kilo very likely has synergies with Spacecraft cards, while Szarel will synergize with lands in a meaningful way.

From here, we cast our eyes upon the future of Magic beyond just the next set. We got a few previews from Avatar: The Last Airbender and Lorwyn Eclipsed! Let's take a look at these as well.

Avatar: The Last Airbender

We only got one card from ATLA, but it's probably going to be one of the biggest chase cards of the set for its lore alone. This is Avatar Aang, and his rear face, Aang, Master of Elements! (Image credit: Wizards of the Coast and Viacom)

I'm particularly perplexed as to why Aang doesn't have airbending on his card since he was a member of the Air Nomads from his youth and was, unfortunately, the last airbender. However, that's just one author's nitpick. We also don't know what bending does in this context, so there may be more to it than that. This is the only ATLA preview we got for this upcoming set. Let's look at the next set of art previews, from Lorwyn Eclipsed (due out in 2026)!

Lorwyn Eclipsed

We got three very cool pieces of art from the return to Lorwyn, titled Lorwyn Eclipsed. Here are those pieces of art!
