Fallout has been a huge franchise in the gaming industry for over two decades, and in 2024 it made its way into Magic with four very popular Commander precons.
Now, as the second season of its Amazon TV show is taking the internet by storm, we have a new Fallout Secret Lair on its way. Leading the charge of this Superdrop is the main character of the series, Lucy MacLean, Positively ArmedLucy MacLean, Positively Armed.
So, join me Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks, as I go over a full budget 99 built around this commander that you can pick up for only about $40 (using TCGPlayer pricing, and not including the commander.)
What Does Lucy MacLean, Positively ArmedLucy MacLean, Positively Armed Do?
If you haven't seen the Fallout show, let me be the first to introduce you to Lucy MacLean, Positively ArmedLucy MacLean, Positively Armed. This character was raised with a strong moral compass in a vault for her entire life. Once she finally stepped foot into the nuclear wasteland, she always does her best to keep that same positive attitude.
Which is all perfectly captured on her card, showcasing just how important the Golden Rule is to her.
“Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
Whenever anyone makes a token, you get the chance to create a copy of it. Of course, you can choose to give yourself that token, but if you decide to hand it out to someone else at the table, you'll draw a card. So, I filled the deck with plenty of ways to create tokens both on your board and on your opponents'.
This deck has a very unique strategy, so let's take a look at the cards that make it tick!
Key Cards for Lucy MacLean
Okey Dokey, Give Out Tokey
- Adeline, Resplendent CatharAdeline, Resplendent Cathar: When it comes to flooding the board with tokens, there's not many better than Adeline. Since this brings you three tokens when you attack, you won't feel too worried about handing out a single creature to an opponent when Lucy is on the board.
- Grand CrescendoGrand Crescendo: Token decks can be incredibly powerful, but they struggle with one major thing: board wipes. Having an effect like this that gives you more bodies, while also protecting your team, is pivotal for keeping your deck versatile.
- Skrelv's HiveSkrelv's Hive: Getting a creature on your upkeep is perfect for a strategy like this, since you'll want to have as many opportunities to make tokens as possible. Plus, if you give one of them to another player at the table, you're freer to swing into their board since that token can't block.
- Combat CalligrapherCombat Calligrapher: This is one of the more expensive inclusions on this list, but it's worth the price. Lucy has the ability to pass tokens around whenever any player makes them, so giving the entire table the chance to make Inklings means that you get to reap those benefits yourself.
- Hunted LammasuHunted Lammasu: Here's a creature that immediately brings along a friend. A 5/5 flier for only four mana is a great rate, especially when you can make a copy of that Horror token for yourself.
- Benevolent OfferingBenevolent Offering: Now this is a straightforward way of handing out some tokens to the board. Yes, you'll have to give someone three Spirits, but when you get to give yourself more in the exchange, you'll be up on the deal. Also, be sure to target the player with the fewest creatures at the table with that life gain effect...
- Prava of the Steel LegionPrava of the Steel Legion If you've been handing out a lot of tokens as the game goes on, you won't want to find yourself in a board stall, afraid to attack. Getting a power and toughness buff like this, means that you're more protected with attacking the table, and keep your board safe from dying during combat.
- On Wings of GoldOn Wings of Gold: While there isn't a way to make your own cards leave your graveyard in the list, the fact that this enchantment gives your tokens +1/+1 and flying means that they'll be stronger on your board than on your opponents'.
- Intangible VirtueIntangible Virtue: Here's just a clean way to buff your team, while still being able to keep them back as blockers. Deterring the table from attacking you is a lot easier with this on the battlefield.
S.P.E.C.I.A.L. Card Advantage
- Tocasia's WelcomeTocasia's Welcome: Lucy has the ability to make a copy of a token once each turn, which is what makes this enchantment so great in the deck. It gives you the opportunity to give yourself that token, while still getting to draw a card in the process.
- Idol of OblivionIdol of Oblivion: Here's a staple level card in many Token decks. The ability to tap this and draw a card after you've added another member of your team to the board is a powerful effect to have close at hand.
- Rumor GathererRumor Gatherer: This is one of my favorite card advantage creatures in white. Yes, it only draws you a card when the second creature enters your battlefield each turn, but scrying every other time is incredible value that ensures you're setting up the top of your deck for success.
- Tempt with BunniesTempt with Bunnies: Be honest, who out there wouldn't be tempted by the promise of a bunny? Adding more tokens to the board is just what Lucy wants, while also giving you even more cards in hand.
- Champions from BeyondChampions from Beyond: I've added this card to a few lists lately, and it continues to overperform. Filling the board with tokens, and then giving you a PreordainPreordain style effect when you attack is just perfect in this list. Plus, if all goes well, you could be giving your team that +4/+4 boost.
- Ox DroverOx Drover: Another card that doesn't have a home in too many decks, but fits right in here. Handing out an Ox while giving yourself a card is great. Especially when Lucy can also make you an Ox in the process.
Rad-ical Removal
- Fateful AbsenceFateful Absence: A cheap kill spell for two troublesome permanent types is always helpful for controlling the board. Plus, the Clue that gets left behind is another token that Lucy can copy.
- Parting GustParting Gust: Here's a card that reads a little wonky, but is great for protection and interaction. You can straight up exile a creature without promising a gift, but if you do pass that Fish to an opponent, you'll get to blink something important until the next end step. Great for saving a value piece, and getting yourself a Fish upon resolution.
- Generous GiftGenerous Gift: This Commander staple has found a home in countless decks over the years, and it gets even better here. Replacing a scary permanent on someone's board with an Elephant is already great, but having the opportunity to get that token on your side of the table is just insult to injury.
- Hour of ReckoningHour of Reckoning: This one-sided board wipe is exactly the kind of thing you want to have on hand in this list. Plus, your creatures can help you cast it, making this a very cheap way to set your opponents back a few steps, while leaving you relatively untouched.
- Martial CoupMartial Coup: As I've mentioned before, wraths can be a bit rough for your board to handle, but sometimes you just need to clear the table out in order to bounce back in a game. Attaching that effect to a way to create more tokens puts you in a good place to build yourself back towards a win.
