<p><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/eoe"><em>Edge of Eternities</em></a> is approaching fast, moving towards us at lightspeed. Before we get these new packs in our hands, it's important to know what cards we can expect in them. While the rares and mythics are taking up the spotlight, I'm here to put the commons and uncommons center stage.</p>
<p>My name is <a href="https://linktr.ee/thetylerbucks" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks</a>, and it's my job to dig through the bulk of each new set so you don't have to. On today's edition of <em>Bulk Up </em>we have a lot to get into, because there's a potential new staple hitting the format with each reveal.</p>
<p>So, join me as we blast off to the stars and explore <em>Magic</em>'s foray into the far reaches of space.</p>
<h3>Emergency Eject</h3>

<p>Our first card on the list today has “potential staple” written all over it. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Emergency Eject" href="#" target="_blank">Emergency Eject</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is similar to the Commander format staple <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Generous Gift" href="#" target="_blank">Generous Gift</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, but instead of giving a 3/3 creature token, the player gets a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lander" href="#" target="_blank">Lander</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> token.</p>
<p>Recently, I’ve been straying away from removal spells that create a creature for an opponent, since most of my white decks want to have a clear board when I move to attacks. So, when you’re opening packs of this new set, keep an eye out for this one, because it might be able to <em>land</em> in more of your decks than you think.</p>
<p>Now, as for my deck suggestion for this card, it's a little bit of a self-indulgent one. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jasmine Boreal of the Seven" href="#" target="_blank">Jasmine Boreal of the Seven</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a commander that I have in my own collection and will greatly appreciate a new removal piece that doesn't put a potential blocker on your opponent's board.</p>
<h3>Seedship Impact</h3>

<p>Staying on the removal train, our next card is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seedship Impact" href="#" target="_blank">Seedship Impact</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. An upgraded <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Naturalize" href="#" target="_blank">Naturalize</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> that makes you a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lander" href="#" target="_blank">Lander</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> if you destroy something with mana value two or less.</p>
<p>While there have been plenty of effects like this in the past, if you have a deck that is completely built around getting lands into play, this can save you in a few situations. Blowing up a small value piece from one of your foes to set you up for some <em>landfall</em> triggers is a play pattern a lot of green decks are looking for.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kibo, Uktabi Prince" href="#" target="_blank">Kibo, Uktabi Prince</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> loves seeing artifacts bite the dust. So, having a cheap instant spell that can remove someone's value piece while buffing your whole board would surely catch your foes off guard. Plus, since Kibo is cheap to cast, having that Lander token around as a way to ramp you towards the late game shouldn't be overlooked.</p>
<h3>Annul</h3>

<p>Counterspells are the bane of some players' existence, and when it comes time for <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Annul" href="#" target="_blank">Annul</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> to get into blue mage’s hands, that animosity might get worse. Sure, only countering artifacts or enchantments can be limited in scope, but as we've already talked about today, those card types are some of the strongest in the game.</p>
<p>If you’ve ever played against an <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/enchantress" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Enchantress</a></em> deck, you’ll know that slowing them down is a tall order. Having an answer like this as early as turn one might just keep them on their toes for the rest of the game.</p>
<p>If <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Alela, Cunning Conqueror" href="#" target="_blank">Alela, Cunning Conqueror</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is leading one of your decks, consider adding Annul to your 99. Black and blue have a hard time permanently dealing with artifacts and enchantments, so giving this deck a removal option that would also trigger your commander makes for some tight synergy.</p>
<h3>Ruinous Rampage</h3>

<p>Apparently it’s a bad day to be an artifact, because <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ruinous Rampage" href="#" target="_blank">Ruinous Rampage</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is also here to clear the board of those pesky metal trinkets. If you have a deck that runs little to no artifacts, that exile effect will leave you free and clear, while crippling the rest of the table.</p>
<p>Also, let’s not overlook that damage you can inflict on each opponent, because in the right deck, that could be exactly what you need. Three mana for nine damage isn’t anything to sneeze at.</p>
<p>Let's highlight the power of that burn effect by throwing this card into a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Niv-Mizzet, Visionary" href="#" target="_blank">Niv-Mizzet, Visionary</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> deck. Once your commander's out, you're looking for any way possible to deal direct damage to your opponents; and the fact this this card comes with an extra effect is just icing on the big, red, destructive cake.</p>
<h3>Decode Transmissions</h3>

<p>Speaking of lowering your opponent’s life totals, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Decode Transmissions" href="#" target="_blank">Decode Transmissions</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> that puts a new spin on the typical draw-two-lose-two style of card.</p>
<p><em>Void</em> is an ability from the set that unlocks new layers for some cards, and all you need to do is have a nonland permanent leave your board (or warp a card, which we'll cover later in the list). If you meet that requirement, then each other player loses two life instead.</p>
<p>Three mana for a sorcery that fills up your hand while lowering your opponents' life totals is powerful, especially when you know you can hit that <em>void</em> mode reliably.</p>
<p>One of the most popular commanders on all of EDHREC is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Teysa Karlov" href="#" target="_blank">Teysa Karlov</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, the aristocrat queen. Sure, the <em>void</em> effect wouldn't trigger twice when it comes to <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Decode Transmissions" href="#" target="_blank">Decode Transmissions</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, but a deck like this will ensure you always have something leaving your board.</p>
<h3>All-Fates Scroll</h3>

<p>In recent sets we’ve gotten quite a few interesting mana rocks that cost three mana, and just like those other artifacts, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="All-Fates Scroll" href="#" target="_blank">All-Fates Scroll</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is something to consider for your decks. It fixes your mana and ramps you in the early game, but that’s not why I want to talk about it today.</p>
<p>For seven mana, you can sacrifice this artifact and draw cards equal to the number of differently named lands you control. In most decks that have three or more colors, this is a great way to refill your hand, since adding up your basics and non-basics with different names in the late game could draw you a big stack of cards.</p>
<p>Hailing from the <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/fin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Final Fantasy</a></em> set, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Wandering Minstrel" href="#" target="_blank">The Wandering Minstrel</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This deck's whole goal is to get as many Towns on the battlefield as possible, which will naturally add to the number of differently names lands you control. Plus, since it's a five-color deck, you might find yourself in a spot where a little mana fixing is a welcomed inclusion.</p>
<h3>Seedship Broodtender</h3>

<p><a href="https://edhrec.com/commanders/golgari" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Golgari</a> (<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-b" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-g" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>) decks tend to love one thing more than anything else: filling up their graveyards. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seedship Broodtender" href="#" target="_blank">Seedship Broodtender</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> enters the battlefield and assists you on that journey by milling three cards as early as turn two. Then, in the late game, you can spend five mana to sacrifice this new card and return a creature or Spacecraft to the battlefield from your graveyard.</p>
<p>This is a great curve for a self-mill deck, since by the time you're ready to activate that ability, you should have plenty of nasty threats to recur from your bin!</p>
<p>A deck that would love to have this new Insect join its ranks, is one built around <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Meren of Clan Nel Toth" href="#" target="_blank">Meren of Clan Nel Toth</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Picture this: turn two you cast <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seedship Broodtender" href="#" target="_blank">Seedship Broodtender</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, filling up your yard. Then when Meren comes down, you have plenty of good targets for her recursion ability. Finally, sacrifice the Broodtender to reanimate another big threat, and get it right back with Meren's end step trigger, and repeat the process.</p>
<h3>Scout for Survivors</h3>

<p>If getting back things from your graveyard is what you're looking for, well the new white uncommon <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Scout for Survivors" href="#" target="_blank">Scout for Survivors</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here to help.</p>
<p>With the rise of more and more commanders that care about small value creatures entering the format, a card like this can become incredibly valuable in those decks. If you have a particularly low to the ground aggressive strategy, you could reliably get back two or more creatures with Scout for Survivors.</p>
<p>But don't overlook that this card adds +1/+1 counters to the mix.</p>
<p>Let's head back to <em>Final Fantasy</em> with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Aerith Gainsborough" href="#" target="_blank">Aerith Gainsborough</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, which, when paired with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Scout for Survivors" href="#" target="_blank">Scout for Survivors</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, you can make things can get a little tricky. Since Aerith's mana value is three, and she has a great <em>dies</em> trigger, you could bring her right back to the battlefield with another +1/+1 counter to keep that game plan rolling!</p>
<p>If only it were that easy to get her back in the video game...</p>
<h3>Umbral Collar Zealot</h3>

<p>Free sacrifice outlets have always been powerful in Commander, which is why <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Umbral Collar Zealot" href="#" target="_blank">Umbral Collar Zealot</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is likely to find a home in many players' decks. Sure, it's similar to the format staple <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Viscera Seer" href="#" target="_blank">Viscera Seer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, however it has a few important twists.</p>
<p>With this new card you can sacrifice a creature or an artifact to surveil 1, opening it up to so many different strategies. Any commander that incidentally makes tokens (be they creatures or artifacts) or even a graveyard centric deck that wants to put its value pieces in the bin, will be happy to include this card in the 99.</p>
<p>So nice, I had to feature the character twice - <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Teysa, Opulent Oligarch" href="#" target="_blank">Teysa, Opulent Oligarch</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> would absolutely love this card. This commander makes you two different types of tokens, and if you find yourself with far too many Clues to handle, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Umbral Collar Zealot" href="#" target="_blank">Umbral Collar Zealot</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can sacrifice one of them on every turn to make you an extra Spirit token.</p>
<h3>Weftstalker Ardent</h3>

<p>Closing things out today, we have a member of a new creature type called the Drix, who have a proclivity for bending space and time.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Weftstalker Ardent" href="#" target="_blank">Weftstalker Ardent</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> does this by helping you double the speed of your game in the right deck. Dealing a damage to each opponent whenever a creature or artifact hits your board is incredibly powerful. When paired with the right commander, you could close out a game quickly by having this on your board, or even spending one mana to warp it on the turn you’re ready to pop off!</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Arabella, Abandoned Doll" href="#" target="_blank">Arabella, Abandoned Doll</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> loves turning creature tokens into damage, which is exactly what the Weftstalker can assist with. Imagine creating a whole legion of Rats with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Song of Totentanz" href="#" target="_blank">Song of Totentanz</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, dealing a bunch of damage to your opponents when those tokens enter. Finally, you can just move to combat, and deal even more pain off of your commander's trigger... That's just scary value.</p>
<h2>The Wrap Up!</h2>

<p><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/eoe"><em>Edge of Eternities</em></a> preview season is here, and so far we've seen a lot of new cards that are out of this world. From the commons all the way up to the mythics, it looks to be a set filled with possible Commander staples.</p>
<p>On top of that, it also brings a new rules change to the format, with legendary Vehicles and Spacecraft being legal as your commander.</p>
<p>While we've only seen a handful of these hulking new Spacecraft, one of them has already caught the attention of the Commander community at large.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Infinite Guideline Station" href="#" target="_blank">Infinite Guideline Station</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a five-color commander that cares about multicolor permanents; which is just begging to be brewed around!</p>
<p>Join me, Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks, as I show you fourteen cards for under $14 that will get you ready to make this deck right when the set is released.</p>
<h2>The Commander - Infinite Guideline Station</h2>

<p>Introducing the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Infinite Guideline Station" href="#" target="_blank">Infinite Guideline Station</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a five mana 7/15 that makes you 2/2 Robot tokens when it hits the board. It also has a new mechanic called 'Station', which shares some similarities to 'Crew' for Vehicles.</p>
<p>You can tap your creatures at sorcery speed to add charge counters to a Spacecraft, and in this case, once you hit twelve or more, it becomes a creature.</p>
<p>When it reaches that point, it can attack and block as normal. Which is great, because it also comes with a wicked attack trigger, drawing you a card for each multicolor permanent you control.</p>
<p>So, not only does this commander help you in the mid-game by making you a board of creature tokens, but it can also accelerate you into the late-game with refilling your hand.</p>
<h2>Multicolor-Matters</h2>
<p>With this list, I will be highlighting some great multicolor permanents you can play to maximize both of this Station's abilities, as well as tapping and counter synergies for getting those twelve charge counters.</p>
<p>Let's kick things off by looking at some amazing budget singles that care about cards with a multiple colors.</p>
<h3>Faeburrow Elder</h3>

<p>The perfect example of a multicolor-matters card, that benefits this deck in two different ways, is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Faeburrow Elder" href="#" target="_blank">Faeburrow Elder</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Not only is it a powerful mana dork, having the ability to generate you all five colors, but it can also grow in size as you build out your board.</p>
<p>That will allow you to tap it and add its power to the Infinite Guideline's Station cost the turn after it helped bring it onto the field.</p>
<h3>Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile</h3>

<p>Speaking of assisting with casting your commander, our next creature <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile" href="#" target="_blank">Jenson Carthalion, Druid Exile</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here to help with that as well! Sure, it only filters your mana into WUBRG (so it isn't ramp like our last entry) but that can be incredibly beneficial in a pinch, if your mana isn't lining up.</p>
<p>On top of that, whenever you cast all the great cards we will be talking about today, you'll either scry 1, smoothing out your draws, or make a 4/4 flying Angel.</p>
<h3 class="cardDetailsOverlay_title__6Xo0r ">General Ferrous Rokiric</h3>

<p>Let's add even more big tokens to the mix with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="General Ferrous Rokiric" href="#" target="_blank">General Ferrous Rokiric</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This legend has hexproof from monocolored, and makes you a 4/4 Golem creature token whenever you cast multicolored spells.</p>
<p>Not only are these amazing on offense and defense, but they're great for turning your commander into a creature. Having only three of those tokens on the board ensures you can reach twelve charge counters on the Station by tapping them right away.</p>
<h3 class="cardDetailsOverlay_title__6Xo0r ">Knight of New Alara</h3>

<div>Sometimes, going tall with your board might be better than going wide, and sometimes you can do both. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Knight of New Alara" href="#" target="_blank">Knight of New Alara</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> giving your other creatures +1/+1 for each of their colors is incredible in this deck.</div>

<div>Turning all of these multicolor creatures in the 99 into bigger beaters is great, but the fact that it will also make your commander a 12/20 once its Station cost is met is just the icing on the big scary cake...</div>

The power buff Rienne offers is amazing in this deck, since it assists with powering up your commander.</div>
<div>However, the main star of the show is that when you're ready to start your all-out attacks, you'll be able to get your multicolored creatures back if they bite the dust during combat. An effect like that is exactly the kind of value you need to lock down a game with this deck.</div>

Getting that value for only three mana is strong, but that last line of text is what puts this over the edge, giving all the multicolored spells you cast convoke.</div>

<div>Something that often gets overlooked with that ability is that your creatures pay for one generic <em>OR </em>one mana of the creature's color. Making the Wayfarer basically a five-color mana dork.</div>

<div>Closing out the multicolored section, we have a land tailor made for this kind of deck. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pillar of the Paruns" href="#" target="_blank">Pillar of the Paruns</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is an untapped land that makes a mana of any color, the small downside is that the mana can only be spent on multicolored spells... Which is no problem in this deck!</div>

<div>Sure, there may be a few cards here and there you can't cast with this, but the vast majority of the time, this will just be like another <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Command Tower" href="#" target="_blank">Command Tower</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for you.</div>
<h2>Counters &amp; Tapping Synergies</h2>
<p>Now as you saw, multicolored permanents are incredibly important to making the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Infinite Guideline Station" href="#" target="_blank">Infinite Guideline Station</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> tick, but let's dive into a few more ways to power up this commander.</p>
<p>These effects that will add more counters to the station, or give you benefits for tapping your creatures.</p>

<div>A creature like this incentivizes you to push damage forward, and pays you off with some card advantage, while getting you one step closer to powering up your commander!</div>

Two mana and tapping could give you more counters, but it can also populate, which makes token copy of another one of your tokens.</div>

<div>As you've seen in this deck, we will have plenty of those laying around. On top of all of that, Cayth also gives your nontoken creatures Fabricate 1, which could sneak under your opponent's radar until your army of metal buddies is too much to handle.</div>

<p>Our next card is the most expensive one on the list, but you'll see why I felt the need to include it here today. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mutational Advantage" href="#" target="_blank">Mutational Advantage</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> protects anything on your board that has a counter on it with hexproof and indestructible, but it doesn't stop there.'</p>
<p>It also prevents any damage dealt to those permanents, and you proliferate. This can turn someone's attempted blowout into your successful blowout, and that's worth a few extra bucks if you ask me.</p>

Whenever Wylie is tapped, you'll draw a card and gain one life.</p>
<p>Nothing too flashy here, just a big powered creature, adding value to your board in multiple ways... Do you think those <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/otj"><em>Outlaws of Thunder Junction</em></a>'s heads would explode of they saw this big Spacecraft pull up to their plane? I wonder... Moving on with the list, sorry!</p>

Not only does it provide some early game ramp by possibly untapping lands, but it can also be a way to untap one of your big creatures, to tap it again building towards that Station cost.</div>

<div>Once your commander is at full power, you could even untap it after you attack, and leave it up as a blocker. I've heard that a 7/15 flyer is pretty good at keeping your opponents at bay.</div>

<p>Closing out our list today, we have a way to get a little sneaky with this deck. Sure, Sydri's second ability makes your commander an even scarier attacker and blocker, however it's that first ability that put it on this list. One blue mana turns a noncreature artifact into a creature for the turn, with power and toughness equal to its mana value.</p>
<p>The <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Infinite Guideline Station" href="#" target="_blank">Infinite Guideline Station</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> specifically says that it <em>becomes</em> a creature at +12 charge counters, which means that you can turn it into a 5/5 at instant speed anytime you hold a blue mana up.</p>
<p>This little interaction can catch your opponents off guard if they think they have a lot more time before that station is mobile, giving you the element of surprise when it fires up, and heads into combat out of nowhere!</p>

<p>During MagicCon Vegas, we got the news that <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/vehicles">legendary Vehicles</a> can be your commander starting with <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/eoe">Edge of Eternities</a></em>, which caused myself and countless other players to rush to their binders and online search engines.</p>
<p>The announcement that <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/top-10-vehicle-commanders">your favorite rides from the multiverse</a> can be in your command zone sparked quite a lot of creativity in the community.</p>
<p>One of the most played legendary Vehicles in the format already is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Indomitable" href="#" target="_blank">The Indomitable</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a four-mana mono-blue (<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-u" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>) Pirate ship that’s a wicked card draw engine.</p>
<p>It’s also a great attacker when crewed that offers you a way to return it to the battlefield from your graveyard. Sure, you could throw every evasive creature you can find into this deck and call it a day, but I wanted to take this list in a bit more of a nautical direction.</p>
<h2>The Commander - The Indomitable</h2>

<p>Pirate decks typically land in the Grixis Shard (<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-u" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span><span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-b" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span><span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>), boasting over <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/pirates">twenty-thousand decks here on EDHREC</a>; however, as of writing, only sixty of those are mono-blue.</p>
<p>Well, that’s all about to change when players set sail with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Indomitable" href="#" target="_blank">The Indomitable</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in their command zone. Since this ship draws you a card whenever a creature you control deals combat damage to a player, I packed this $40 deck list full of the sneakiest scurvy dogs on the seven seas.</p>
<p>Now, I know what you’re thinking: aren’t we losing too many good Pirate-matters cards without adding red or black? This is a valid concern, but do not fret, because the raw power of blue is here ensure you don't miss those other crewmates.</p>
<p>As you will see through this list, filling the board with evasive Pirates that draw you a card whenever they push damage forward is a strong enough gameplan for you to keep up with the rest of the table.</p>

<h3>The Fiercest Members of The Crew</h3>
<p>When I first set out on the journey of building this deck, I’ll admit that I had a little trepidation with this concept (don’t tell anyone or I’ll walk the plank).</p>
<p>However, the more I looked into the Pirates in blue, the more I was blown away by their power, especially on a budget! If you’re still not sold on the idea, let me highlight some of the heavy hitters on the list.</p>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator" href="#" target="_blank">Malcolm, Keen-Eyed Navigator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: when paired with The Indomitable, these two are unstoppable. Drawing cards and making Treasures along the way just means that your post combat step can get out of hand fast.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Storm Fleet Negotiator" href="#" target="_blank">Storm Fleet Negotiator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This Pirate not only draws everyone a card when it hits a player, but it also adds some more permanents to the board in the form of those <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Map" href="#" target="_blank">Map</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> tokens.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Azure Fleet Admiral" href="#" target="_blank">Azure Fleet Admiral</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Adding the Monarchy to the game can always be a bit risky, but when you have a deck like this that’s filled with flyers and a trampling commander, you should be able to get the crown back if you ever lose it.</li>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kitesail Larcenist" href="#" target="_blank">Kitesail Larcenist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This creature will be on the top of everyone’s hitlist when it hits the board, since it turns people’s staples into Treasures.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Warkite Marauder" href="#" target="_blank">Warkite Marauder</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: A great two-drop that can nullify your opponent’s nastiest creature when it attacks, all while drawing you cards in the process.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Amphin Mutineer" href="#" target="_blank">Amphin Mutineer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Even though this isn’t the most evasive Pirate on the list, it’s still a great way to add exile removal to the deck, while being the perfect crewer for your commander.</li>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spectral Sailor" href="#" target="_blank">Spectral Sailor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Having cheap Pirates as early as turn one might not look too impressive, but when each of them represent card draw in the late game, you look at them a little differently.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spyglass Siren" href="#" target="_blank">Spyglass Siren</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Creating a Map token on ETB is incredible value, since this deck works best when it’s just doing the basics, like hitting land drops, and building up the board with evasive Pirates.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Siren Stormtamer" href="#" target="_blank">Siren Stormtamer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: So many of these cards we’ve seen so far today are headaches for your opponents, but that’s why having a counterspell on a stick like this creature will help protect your gameplan.</li>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cloud Pirates" href="#" target="_blank">Cloud Pirates</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Don’t overlook some classic Pirates, because they can still help this deck pack a punch! (Yes, both this card and the next entry on the list have been updated to have "Pirate" in their creature types)</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Talas Explorer" href="#" target="_blank">Talas Explorer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: Now this card may read better than it actually plays: since the Oracle text lets you only see one player’s hand, this is still an evasive Pirate that gives you a lot of information when it hits the board.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rishadan Brigand" href="#" target="_blank">Rishadan Brigand</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This classic Pirate enters the battlefield and disrupts your opponents' gameplans, unless they pay three mana. Who says blue can’t have edicts?</li>
</ul>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Oaken Siren"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Merchant Raiders"></div><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Deadeye Quartermaster"></div></div>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Oaken Siren" href="#" target="_blank">Oaken Siren</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This is a creature that surprised me in this deck, since it can help cast your commander, while also being a vigilant attacker once you’re ready for it draw you cards.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Merchant Raiders" href="#" target="_blank">Merchant Raiders</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: You will be drawing a lot while piloting this deck, which just means that each new Pirate you draw will hit the board and tap down your opponents' threats until they can deal with these Raiders.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Deadeye Quartermaster" href="#" target="_blank">Deadeye Quartermaster</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: While this deck isn’t filled with too many Vehicles, the option to go find one of the ships I added to the list and get it into your hand is great utility to have around.</li>

<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Skysovereign, Consul Flagship" href="#" target="_blank">Skysovereign, Consul Flagship</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: A great target to tutor for, this recent addition to the list of new commanders is awesome in this deck. Evasion and removal is a really nasty combo.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cargo Ship" href="#" target="_blank">Cargo Ship</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: This ship adds some ramp to the deck, while also being a nice attacker in the air. Swinging over your opponents and then tapping for mana post-combat is a real one-two punch.</li>
<li><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Lunar Whale" href="#" target="_blank">The Lunar Whale</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>: I underestimated this Vehicle when I first read it, but it has over-performed every time I had it out during playtesting, allowing you to cycle through the top of your deck after combat can make for an explosive turn.</li>

It’s a great counterspell when you need it, but could help you just close things out if your opponents have built up their defenses in a major way throughout the game.</li>

So, it only seems fitting that if you do that enough times, you get the chance to say “release the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kraken" href="#" target="_blank">Kraken</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>…”</li>

<p>Whenever a new Commander product comes out, the legend that’s on the front of the box, as well as the backup commander, tend to hog the spotlight. Which means that the other new legendary creatures from the deck can fall by the wayside. That is especially true this time around, since the <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/fin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Final Fantasy</a></em> commander decks brought a total of 65 new legends to the format.</p>

<p>One such legend that got left on the side of the road is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Setzer, Wandering Gambler" href="#" target="_blank">Setzer, Wandering Gambler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a Rakdos (<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-b" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>)commander that cares about both flipping coins and driving Vehicles; which is such a fun combo!</p>

<h2>The Commander - Setzer, Wandering Gambler</h2>
<p>Hailing from <em>Final Fantasy VI</em>, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Setzer, Wandering Gambler" href="#" target="_blank">Setzer, Wandering Gambler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, which perfectly melds flavor and mechanics together on one card. In the game, this character runs a casino out of his traveling airship, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Blackjack" href="#" target="_blank">The Blackjack</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>

<p>Not only does this commander make that Vehicle token when he enters, but he also adds some gambling to the mix.</p>
<p>Creating two tapped Treasures for each coin flip you win is very powerful, especially when you flip a coin anytime one of your Vehicles hits an opponent. I warn you, once you get a taste of this deck, you’re going to want more.</p>
<p>This article started as one of my normal <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/jenova-ancient-calamity-build-a-team-of-mutants-on-a-budget" target="_blank" rel="noopener">14 Cards for Under $14</a> lists, but I couldn’t stop myself from building out an entire 99.</p>
<p>While I was putting the deck together, the <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/edge-of-eternities-rules-update-vehicles-can-be-commanders" target="_blank" rel="noopener">news came out that legendary Vehicles will be legal as your commander</a> starting with <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/eoe">Edge of Eternities</a></em>. It was very fitting that I was putting together this fun list at the time, because my hype levels went through the roof.</p>
<p>Even though a Vehicle technically isn't leading this deck, the fact that the commander comes with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Blackjack" href="#" target="_blank">The Blackjack</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a legendary Vehicle, feels close enough, right?</p>
<p>That being said, let's take a look at some of the other great Vehicles that fill out this decklist.</p>
<h2>The Vehicles</h2>
<p>Since your commander’s trigger is so strong, having a garage full of Vehicles is paramount for building this deck. First up, let's check out some great rides that ramp you.</p>

Not only does it have high power, making it great to crew with, but it also gives you the opportunity to pay one mana and give that colorless Vehicle it just jumped in haste!</p>

<p>Even though coin flipping will happen often in this deck, I didn't want to devote too many slots to that subtheme. <h2>A Few More Cards to Highlight</h2>
<p>Even though Rakdos isn’t the usual color combo for a Vehicle deck, you can see that there’s plenty of great cards you get access to, especially in black. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="King Macar, the Gold-Cursed" href="#" target="_blank">King Macar, the Gold-Cursed</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pain Seer" href="#" target="_blank">Pain Seer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> having inspired makes for a great combo with all that crewing. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Okiba Reckoner Raid" href="#" target="_blank">Okiba Reckoner Raid</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Apocalypse Runner" href="#" target="_blank">Apocalypse Runner</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are interesting ways to give some evasion, which can in turn makes you more Treasures.</p>
<p>Then cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Falcon, Airship Restored" href="#" target="_blank">The Falcon, Airship Restored</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Back on Track" href="#" target="_blank">Back on Track</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can give more options for recurring your big threats.</p>
<p>Of course, we can’t overlook those <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/bot" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Transformers</a> cards, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Starscream, Power Hungry" href="#" target="_blank">Starscream, Power Hungry</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Flamewar, Brash Veteran" href="#" target="_blank">Flamewar, Brash Veteran</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Both give you ways to draw some additional cards, while also being Vehicles that don’t have to be crewed on their other sides.</p>
<p>Finally, I just want to shout out some more great role-players I found while putting this list together. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mastermind Plum" href="#" target="_blank">Mastermind Plum</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is incredible in the late game, when you can double and even triple spell with your Treasures, drawing you cards on each cast. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rose, Cutthroat Raider" href="#" target="_blank">Rose, Cutthroat Raider</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> not only adds to your artifact count, but also brings you both mana and card advantage just for attacking your opponents.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Swashbuckler Extraordinaire" href="#" target="_blank">Swashbuckler Extraordinaire</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> gives your Treasures additional utility by adding double strike to your creatures, which will in-turn trigger your commander's coin flipping a few more times.</p>
<p>Both <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Marionette Apprentice" href="#" target="_blank">Marionette Apprentice</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ingenious Artillerist" href="#" target="_blank">Ingenious Artillerist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> help you weaponize those Treasures whenever they enter or go to the graveyard, which just pressures your opponents' life totals even more than before.</p>
<h2>In Closing</h2>

A Super Fun Setzer, Wandering Gambler Budget Deck | Coin Flips &#038; Vehicles Galore

<p>In today’s current meta, commanders that sit around the seven mana mark tend not to be built too often. But every once and a while, we get a legend that breaks the status quo by capturing player’s imaginations, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sin, Spira&#039;s Punishment" href="#" target="_blank">Sin, Spira&#039;s Punishment</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> did just that.</p>

<p>Having an enters and attack trigger as powerful as this creature has sparks a lot of creativity, which opens it up to all kinds of directions to go in.</p>
<p>With the start of this list, I wanted to focus on some great cards that help set up Sin’s ability by filling up the graveyard. Then we'll close things out by showcasing some great payoffs for all those copy tokens hitting your board.</p>
<p>This deck might be a little bit of an all-in strategy, but that’s what Commander is all about, right?</p>
<h2>Sin, Spira's Punishment</h2>
<p>This deck wants to do one thing: have your commander enter and attack. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sin, Spira&#039;s Punishment" href="#" target="_blank">Sin, Spira&#039;s Punishment</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can cheat in a huge number of permanents and specifically relies on you hitting lands to repeat the process.</p>
<p>Including plenty of instant and sorcery ways to fill your graveyard will be important, since your commander's effect will ignore them in the bin, thus increasing your chances of hitting a land to keep the chain going.</p>
<p>Recently, fellow EDHREC writer Jeff Girten released an article covering a decklist for Sin with no non-land permanents that I highly recommend you <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/building-sin-spiras-punishment-with-no-nonland-permanents" target="_blank" rel="noopener">check out here</a>. As you will see in this list, I did include some payoff permanents to help the deck flow, and could give you more options to build the rest of this 99 on a budget.</p>
<p>With that being said, here are the <em>fourteen cards for under $14</em> you can pick up to get a jumpstart on a new deck!</p>
<h3>Grisly Salvage</h3>

<p>Kicking off our list is the classic graveyard filling spell, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Grisly Salvage" href="#" target="_blank">Grisly Salvage</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Two mana to dig five cards deep, pick out the best creature or land from among them, and put the rest in the bin is exactly what you want in this deck.</p>
<p>As I mentioned before, instant and sorcery spells dodge Sin’s trigger, since it looks for a random permanent. That allows you to hit as many lands as possible, without breaking the chain.</p>
<h3>Doom Whisperer</h3>

<p>Next up, we have a creature you would love to hit with the first card on the list: <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Doom Whisperer" href="#" target="_blank">Doom Whisperer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. A flying, trampling 6/6 for only five mana is an incredible rate, but the star of the show for this spell is that surveil ability.</p>
<p>With this creature out, you can pay as much life as you want and fill up your graveyard in preparation for your commander’s arrival. All while being a great attacker and blocker in the air!</p>
<h3>Flux</h3>

<p>Another great way to fill up your graveyard is with wheel effects. While a card like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Windfall" href="#" target="_blank">Windfall</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> will do great work in the deck, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Flux" href="#" target="_blank">Flux</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here to give you a little more selection.</p>
<p>Making sure you fill your graveyard with lands and your hand with spells is paramount for this deck’s strategy. Being able to do that by turn three will just set you up for success as the game goes on.</p>
<h3>Drown in Dreams</h3>

<p>Depending on where you are in the game, a spell like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Drown in Dreams" href="#" target="_blank">Drown in Dreams</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can be exactly what you need in the moment. Whether you need to fill your hand, or your graveyard before Sin comes out, it's here to help.</p>
<p>Then, once your commander is on the board, you can do both! Since it can be cast at instant speed you can play it right before your turn, which then sets you up for a big attack trigger to move yourself towards the endgame.</p>
<h3>Otherworldly Gaze</h3>

<p>Speaking of instant-speed graveyard fillers, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Otherworldly Gaze" href="#" target="_blank">Otherworldly Gaze</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> lets you surveil 3, and has flashback for only two mana. Holding this up and casting it just before your commander can help you catch your opponents by surprise, since you can add a few more lands to your graveyard that your opponents weren't ready for.</p>
<p>Plus, that flashback cost is pretty cheap, so it can easily be cast again whenever you need it.</p>
<h3>Stargaze</h3>

<p>One of my favorite cards from last year is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Stargaze" href="#" target="_blank">Stargaze</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, since it offers an incredible level of card selection all in one go.</p>
<p>Say you cast this spell the turn before your commander, where X is equal to four. That allows you to dig a whole eight cards deep, putting the cards you want right now into your hand, and most likely a chunk of lands into the bin that you’ll be ready to copy once Sin hits the board.</p>
<h3>Malevolent Rumble</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Malevolent Rumble"></div></div>
<p>Next up we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Malevolent Rumble" href="#" target="_blank">Malevolent Rumble</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a card that gives you both a little bit of ramp and card advantage.</p>
<p>While it’s nothing too flashy, two mana to mill three cards, while giving you a necessary permanent and an Eldrazi Spawn, is nice at any point in the game. On top of that, you can then sacrifice that Spawn to help get your commander out a turn earlier than people are ready for.</p>
<h3>Harrow</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Harrow"></div></div>
<p>Let's keep this ramp train rolling with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Harrow" href="#" target="_blank">Harrow</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. At instant speed you can sacrifice a land to go search for two basics and put them on the field untapped.</p>
<p>As I mentioned with the last card on the list, getting Sin out early can help throw the tempo of the table off. Doing that while also adding a land to your graveyard is just icing on this recursion cake.</p>
<h3>Foreboding Landscape</h3>

<p>If you plan on putting this deck together, adding as many lands to the deck that either cycle or sacrifice themselves for any reason will be great to keep your engine going. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Foreboding Landscape" href="#" target="_blank">Foreboding Landscape</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is the perfect land to represent those effects.</p>
<p>Even though it’s a common it still packs a major punch in this deck, since it has two ways to get into your graveyard, while also just tapping for mana if you really need it at the time.</p>
<h2>Payoff Cards</h2>
<p>Now let’s take a look at some of the great payoff cards we can run in this deck to ensure that when <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sin, Spira&#039;s Punishment" href="#" target="_blank">Sin, Spira&#039;s Punishment</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> hits the battlefield it’s even more impactful.</p>
<h3>Tireless Provisioner</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Tireless Provisioner"></div></div>
<p>One of the best Landfall cards in the game is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tireless Provisioner" href="#" target="_blank">Tireless Provisioner</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Creating a Food or a Treasure whenever a land hits your field is a powerful effect at its base level, letting you build up your board as early as turn three.</p>
<p>However, if your commander hits the table while this is out, you could be making a huge number of tokens for each land copy you make. If you make Treasures with the Provisioner, that helps you dodge the drawback of those copy tokens entering tapped, since you can use that new mana right away.</p>
<h3>Kheru Goldkeeper</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Kheru Goldkeeper"></div></div>
<p>If Treasures is what you want, then <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kheru Goldkeeper" href="#" target="_blank">Kheru Goldkeeper</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can help you get them! Since Sin’s exile ability could repeat over and over again, you’ll make a Treasure for every card that left your bin when all those triggers resolve.</p>
<p>On top of that, if this creature ends up in your graveyard, and you want to get it out of the way for your commander’s ability, it has its own way to exile itself with that Renew effect.</p>
<h3>Spelunking</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Spelunking"></div></div>
<p>A card that's found a home in plenty of deck lists since its release is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spelunking" href="#" target="_blank">Spelunking</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> (even if they don’t include any Caves). The main text that people have fallen in love with for this enchantment is allowing your lands enter play untapped.</p>
<p>If Sin’s ability does make you a whole chunk of land tokens, they will unfortunately be tapped, which is why Spelunking can be so pivotal, giving you the chance to use all that mana right then and there.</p>
<h3>Iridescent Vinelasher</h3>

<p>Another way to utilize those lands is with Iridescent Vinelasher, since it turns all of those <em>landfall</em> triggers into direct damage to your opponents life totals.</p>
<p>Since Sin’s ability happens when it enters and attacks, you could get yourself in a spot where you regularly fill your graveyard, move to combat, and then make a whole bunch of land copies turn after turn. Also, don’t overlook that offspring ability, since that can speed up the burn process if you really need it.</p>
<h3>Second Harvest</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Second Harvest"></div></div>
<p>Closing out the list today, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Second Harvest" href="#" target="_blank">Second Harvest</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. When Sin exiles all those cards from your graveyard, they enter as token copies. So, that just means you can wait for when the time is right and fire this off at instant speed, making you a copy of every token you've made over the course of the game to surprise the table.</p>
<p>This spell also works great with all the Treasures, Food, or even <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Iridescent Vinelasher" href="#" target="_blank">Iridescent Vinelasher</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> offspring tokens you made along the way!</p>

Building A Sin, Spira's Punishment Deck on a Budget

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Well, <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/fin" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Final Fantasy</em></a> is here and just as predicted, it's an incredibly popular set. Sure, cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Vivi Ornitier" href="#" target="_blank">Vivi Ornitier</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER" href="#" target="_blank">Sephiroth, Fabled SOLDIER</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Traveling Chocobo" href="#" target="_blank">Traveling Chocobo</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are dominating the spotlight, but let’s take a look at some of the gems from the set that may be hidden in your bulk. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">My name is Tyler ‘Savesya’ Bucks, and it’s my duty to look through your stacks of commons &amp; uncommons so you don’t have to. On today’s Bulk Up, I present to you some amazing cards you might have overlooked, just waiting to be added to your decks.</span></p>
<h3>Blitzball</h3>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Let’s kick things off this week with everyone’s favorite game: Is this three mana rock good enough in Commander? <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Blitzball" href="#" target="_blank">Blitzball</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> taps for a mana of any color, but it can also tap and sacrifice itself to draw two cards if a legendary creature has dealt combat damage to an opponent that turn. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This card is great in aggressive strategies, especially when you have an expensive commander who loves to get into combat, since those kinds of decks usually need help with refilling their hand.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In terms of a deck suggestion for this card, let’s pair it up with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Slicer, Hired Muscle" href="#" target="_blank">Slicer, Hired Muscle</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Decks built around this commander are centered around powering out Slicer, and then passing it around. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you notice, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Blitzball" href="#" target="_blank">Blitzball</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can be sacrificed to draw those cards whenever an opponent is dealt damage by any legendary creature, you don’t have to be the one to control it. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">So, be sneaky and hold this up until it’s just right for you to draw those cards when no one is expecting it. </span></p>
<h3>Restoration Magic</h3>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Every deck needs to protect its key pieces, especially since more and more removal gets added to the format each year. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Restoration Magic" href="#" target="_blank">Restoration Magic</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> being a tiered spell that can save a valuable permanent makes it incredibly useful at any point in the game. Since some matchups can be a war of attrition, the option to save your whole board while also gaining six life can be just the thing to put you out of kill-range!</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Amalia Benavides Aguirre" href="#" target="_blank">Amalia Benavides Aguirre</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a life gain commander that, when left unchecked, can turn into a board wipe. So, she often becomes a lightning rod for removal, which is where <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Restoration Magic" href="#" target="_blank">Restoration Magic</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can come to the rescue. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">However, you can get extra tricky with these two cards, and here’s how: When Amalia is one counter away from sweeping the table, cast <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Restoration Magic" href="#" target="_blank">Restoration Magic</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for its five mana level, giving your board indestructible and gaining you life. If Amalia gets that final counter, then she'll destroy every creature except for yours.</span></p>
<h3>Sazh's Chocobo</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Sazh&#039;s Chocobo"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">+1/+1 counter decks are incredibly popular in Commander, totaling over one hundred and sixty thousand decks <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/plus-1-plus-1-counters" target="_blank" rel="noopener">here on EDHREC</a>. Which is why you could hear a collective cheer during preview season when <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sazh&#039;s Chocobo" href="#" target="_blank">Sazh&#039;s Chocobo</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> was revealed. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A one-mana creature that gets a counter every time a land enters your board may not seem flashy, but when your deck just wants to build up counters as quickly as possible, starting that engine on turn one is exactly what you’re looking for. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A mono-colored legend that loves modified creatures is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kodama of the West Tree" href="#" target="_blank">Kodama of the West Tree</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. The one thing that <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sazh&#039;s Chocobo" href="#" target="_blank">Sazh&#039;s Chocobo</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is missing is some way to punch that damage through, which is where Kodama comes in. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Giving your little chick trample, then ramping lands when it hits is exactly the type of synergy we love to see. So, if you already have a Kodama deck, be sure to go looking for this li'l friend in your boosters.</span></p>
<h3>Al Bhed Salvagers</h3>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Our next card not only fits in with <a href="https://edhrec.com/tags/aristocrats" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Aristocrat decks</a>, but it also makes Clues, Food, Treasures and more even better; it’s <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Al Bhed Salvagers" href="#" target="_blank">Al Bhed Salvagers</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>! </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">We've seen several different variations of this type of card over the years, but the new spin this time around is that it triggers on both creatures and artifacts, making it perfect to pair up with anything that wants to sacrifice itself for your cause.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A commander that consistently makes artifacts that will feed the Salvagers is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lotho, Corrupt Shirriff" href="#" target="_blank">Lotho, Corrupt Shirriff</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. He makes you a Treasure whenever a player casts their second spell, which is a great ability, however it does cost you one life in the process. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is what makes <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Al Bhed Salvagers" href="#" target="_blank">Al Bhed Salvagers</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> such a great fit in the deck, since you can then use that token for mana, gain your life back, and drain someone else.</span></p>
<h3>Opera Love Song</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Opera Love Song"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Red’s card advantage has come a long way, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Opera Love Song" href="#" target="_blank">Opera Love Song</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is just more proof of that. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sure, it could pump up a couple of your creatures for a turn, but more importantly, it gives you access to the top two cards of your library at instant speed. The rate of this is just amazing, especially since you can hold up that mana as your opponents take their turns, then surprise them with this spell right before your turn.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you picked up the <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/exit-from-exile-precon-primer" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Exit From Exile</a></em> precon back in the day, then your commander <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald" href="#" target="_blank">Faldorn, Dread Wolf Herald</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is just champing at the bit for this new spell. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Of course, casting spells from exile is something that keeps your engine running, but that power buff is something that could come up when the time is right. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With all those Wolf tokens you have sitting around, you can turn a chump block into a gotcha-style combat trick! </span></p>
<h3>Stolen Uniform</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Stolen Uniform"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">At first glance, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Stolen Uniform" href="#" target="_blank">Stolen Uniform</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> might seem like a pretty narrow Equipment-matters card. While it does rely on an Equipment being on the field, it has a few tricks up its stolen sleeves. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">First off, you can steal an opponent’s pivotal protection piece, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lightning Greaves" href="#" target="_blank">Lightning Greaves</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, allowing you to finally target the creature with removal. On top of that, it can also just allow you to attach an Equipment on your side of the field for only one mana, getting around expensive equip costs (I’m looking at you, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Colossus Hammer" href="#" target="_blank">Colossus Hammer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>…)</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A commander that can add even more tricks to the mix is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Arna Kennerüd, Skycaptain" href="#" target="_blank">Arna Kennerüd, Skycaptain</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If you steal an Equipment from one of your opponents, all you need to do is attack with the creature you attached it to, which will then trigger Arna. That'll create a copy of the Equipment you stole, which you get to keep even after you give back what you borrowed. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Not bad for only one mana! </span></p>
<h2>Great Uncommon Legends</h2>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Next up, let’s take a look at a few uncommon legendary creatures that could make for great commanders themselves, but can do some major work in the 99 of another deck.</span></p>
<h3>Black Waltz No. 3</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Black Waltz No. 3"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;"><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Guttersnipe" href="#" target="_blank">Guttersnipe</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a certified staple in the Commander format, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Black Waltz No. 3" href="#" target="_blank">Black Waltz No. 3</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> fits a similar role. Dealing two damage to each opponent whenever you cast a noncreature spell is amazing, and can fit in a few places <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Guttersnipe" href="#" target="_blank">Guttersnipe</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> doesn’t. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Decks centered around artifacts, enchantments, or even planeswalkers can tend to spin their wheels, but that’s where this Black Mage can help. Plus, don’t discount this in Standard spellslinger decks, since it can weaponize your value plays.</span></p>
<h3>Ignis Scientia</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Ignis Scientia"></div></div>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">For people who have followed my <em>Bulk Up</em> series for a while, you’ll know I love the type of ramp found on <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ignis Scientia" href="#" target="_blank">Ignis Scientia</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Instead of picking up your deck, searching for a land, then shuffling; you just look at the top six cards of your library and pick the best land. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This helps speed up the game, as well as gives you the ability to hit nonbasics. Sure, it makes fixing your mana a little harder, but the ease of use is worth the risk. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Keep an eye out for this guy and his delicious treats while you’re opening packs from this set!</span></p>
<h3>The Emperor of Palamecia</h3>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Speaking of ramp, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Emperor of Palamecia" href="#" target="_blank">The Emperor of Palamecia</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here to help you cast your noncreature spells, coming down as early as turn two. Even though that mana does come with a restriction, when paired with the right deck, The Emperor can end up feeling like any other mana source. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">On top of all of that, it can grow with counters as the game goes on, and transform into a nasty repeatable burn outlet on its flip side. Which makes it great not only in the setup phases of your game, but also when you need to close things out in a match. </span></p>
<h3>Cid, Timeless Artificer</h3>

</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">It also has the benefit of being a card with alternate art for each version of Cid in the games, adding more value to whichever variant of the card you get. Plus, it’s just a cool design, helping both Heroes and artifact creatures you control. </span></p>

Don't Let These Final Fantasy Bulk Cards Collect Dust

<p>Well <em>Magic</em> players, it's time to introduce you all to <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jenova, Ancient Calamity" href="#" target="_blank">Jenova, Ancient Calamity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, one of the biggest villains in <em>Final Fantasy VII.</em> For those of you that don’t know: Jenova, is an ancient Alien creature that's central to the plot of the story. It infects lifeforms like a virus, turning them into monsters, which is captured perfectly with this new card. Modifying a creature and then drawing cards when it dies is a powerful ability to build around.</p>
<p>So, join me, Tyler ‘Savesya’ Bucks, as I highlight 14 cards for under $14 that can get you started on a new deck! With this list, we'll look at a few creatures that are naturally Mutants, which makes it even easier to draw cards off of when they die, as well as show off some synergistic sacrifice outlets that will give you more control over when your creatures leave the board.</p>
<h2>What Does Jenova, Ancient Calamity Do?</h2>

<p>Let’s kick things off by taking a look at the commander, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jenova, Ancient Calamity" href="#" target="_blank">Jenova, Ancient Calamity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, a four-mana 1/5 that hands out +1/+1 counter equal to their power to one of your creatures at the start of your combat. When that happens, that creature becomes a Mutant in addition to its other types.</p>
<p>But that’s not all. Whenever a Mutant you control dies during your turn, you draw cards equal to its power.</p>
<h2>Budget Mutant Cards for Jenova, Ancient Calamity</h2>
<p>Of course, throwing something like a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Yargle and Multani" href="#" target="_blank">Yargle and Multani</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> into this deck would be great, but I wanted to first show off some creatures that are already Mutants.</p>
<h3>Rampaging Yao Guai</h3>

<p>The first Mutant we’re showcasing today comes with some counters of its own, as well as removal stapled to it. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rampaging Yao Guai" href="#" target="_blank">Rampaging Yao Guai</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can be strong in the early game as well as the late game, allowing you to clear the board of pesky artifacts and enchantments while getting you a big body on the board.</p>
<p>It's also a great blocker and attacker that you won’t care about dying during combat, since you’ll be drawing all those cards with your commander.</p>
<h3>Lily Bowen, Raging Grandma</h3>

<p>Another card that comes with its own counters is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lily Bowen, Raging Grandma" href="#" target="_blank">Lily Bowen, Raging Grandma</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Even though she already has a way to grow her counters, throwing an additional one on with Jenova could be beneficial, since it'll only grow your Granny faster.</p>
<p>Now all but one of those counters will go away once Lily gets more than sixteen of them, which just means you should be attacking as much as possible or looking for one of the sacrifice outlets we'll talk about later to cash her in when she's at her most powerful.</p>
<h3>Watchful Radstag</h3>

<p>We'll be talking about a lot of big creatures on this list, but let’s take a look at a way to go a bit wider with our board. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Watchful Radstag" href="#" target="_blank">Watchful Radstag</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> creates a token of itself whenever it evolves, which means that as you simply play out your game plan, you could be getting a bigger board of Elk.</p>
<p>Since Jenova doesn’t care about how your Mutants die, you can recklessly use those tokens for attacking, all while drawing cards in the process.</p>
<h3>Lumbering Megasloth</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Lumbering Megasloth"></div></div>
<p>If you already have plenty of counters building up on your board, well then <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lumbering Megasloth" href="#" target="_blank">Lumbering Megasloth</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here to come down for as little as two mana. It's naturally an 8/8, which is great for getting into the red zone, or just straight up sacrificing to draw an obscene number of cards.</p>
<p>Do yourself a favor and hold off on casting this Sloth until you’re ready to get full value out of it, because let’s be honest, 12 mana is just too high. Also, don’t overlook the fact that the mana reduction takes into account all counters on the board, not just yours.</p>
<h3>Ursine Monstrosity</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Ursine Monstrosity"></div></div>
<p>Let's step away from <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/pip" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Fall Out</em></a> Mutants for a second with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ursine Monstrosity" href="#" target="_blank">Ursine Monstrosity</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This creature has trample as well as a way to grow when you move to combat, milling you a card and then getting +1/+1 for each card type in your graveyard. Since it also gains indestructible, this will be a great target for the counters Jenova passes along, making it a constant threat on each of your turns for one random unlucky opponent.</p>
<p>As another bonus, since the Monstrosity only costs three mana, you can get it down the turn before your commander, and start the pain train as early as possible.</p>
<h3>Feral Ghoul</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Feral Ghoul"></div></div>
<p>In this deck a lot of cards will be going to your graveyard, whether it's from milling or sacrificing; the latter of the two is something that <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Feral Ghoul" href="#" target="_blank">Feral Ghoul</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> loves to see. Gaining +1/+1 counters whenever another creature you control dies means that you could get this down early, then continue your game plan of sacrificing bigger creatures to draw cards, all while the Ghoul gets bigger and bigger, setting you up to cash it in for value later in the game. Then you draw a bunch of cards and throw a whole lot of rad counters onto your opponents in the process.</p>
<h3>Evolution Witness</h3>

<p>As I just mentioned, a lot of these value pieces we look at today will most likely end up in your bin - but that’s where <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Evolution Witness" href="#" target="_blank">Evolution Witness</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> comes in. Whenever you add a counter to it, you’ll return a permanent from your graveyard to your hand, which makes for a great combo with your commander, since you can have a repeatable way to regrow something each turn if you need to build your board back.</p>
<h2>Budget Sacrifice Outlets for Jenova</h2>
<p>In this next section, we'll highlight some great sacrifice outlets, which always feel even better to run when you have more ways to bring your cards back, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Evolution Witness" href="#" target="_blank">Evolution Witness</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<h3>Wight of the Reliquary</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Wight of the Reliquary"></div></div>
<p>Let's kick off this section on sacrifice outlets with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Wight of the Reliquary" href="#" target="_blank">Wight of the Reliquary</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Not only is this a creature that grows in size, which Jenova would love to turn into a Mutant, but it also gives you the ability to grab any land from your deck.</p>
<p>If you’re drawing huge chunks of cards in this deck, the main thing that will hold you back is not having enough mana to cast those spells. Ramp like this that synergizes on multiple levels of your game plan makes it a slam dunk inclusion for this list.</p>
<h3>Illuminor Szeras</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Illuminor Szeras"></div></div>
<p>Up next we have the most expensive card on the list, but its worth it since it helps us with that mana problem I was just referring to. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Illuminor Szeras" href="#" target="_blank">Illuminor Szeras</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can tap to sacrifice a creature, and gives you black mana equal to the creature’s mana value. Imagine using that ability with the <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Lumbering Megasloth" href="#" target="_blank">Lumbering Megasloth</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> we talked about earlier: drawing eight cards, and making twelve mana could just push you towards closing the game out faster than anyone is ready for.</p>
<h3>Flare of Cultivation</h3>

<p>Keeping with the ramp theme, our next spell, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Flare of Cultivation" href="#" target="_blank">Flare of Cultivation</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, can feed into everything you need and cost you zero mana in the process. As you cast it, you can sacrifice a nontoken green creature, which makes it free. This card is flexible since at its base, it’s just a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cultivate" href="#" target="_blank">Cultivate</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. But when your game plan is humming, it can also refill your hand. Ramp and card draw for free sounds pretty nice to me!</p>
<h3>Cultist of the Absolute</h3>

<p>Not many cards on this list help grow Jenova’s stats, which you do want since you put counters on something equal to its power, but <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cultist of the Absolute" href="#" target="_blank">Cultist of the Absolute</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> was too good to pass up. Giving +3/+3, great keywords, and ward is amazing, but it's also a sacrifice outlet on your upkeep.</p>
<p>There's a chance that this card might put you in an awkward position where you don’t want to get rid of a member of your team, but if your commander gave four counters to a creature on your last turn, and then you cash it for cards, you'll likely be able to add a lot more fodder to the board from there.</p>
<h3>Deadly Brew</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Deadly Brew"></div></div>
<p>If you want your opponents to join in the fun of sacrificing their creatures, then <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Deadly Brew" href="#" target="_blank">Deadly Brew</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is here for you. Two mana to have each player get rid of a creature is a solid rate. When you add the fact that you want to be doing that with your creatures anyway, you’ll be sure to come out on top of this exchange. Plus, this sorcery allows you to then return something from your graveyard to your hand, which can help you get back a key piece you sacrificed earlier in the game for value.</p>
<h3>Daemogoth Titan</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Daemogoth Titan"></div></div>
<p>Alright, let’s not mess around anymore… <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Daemogoth Titan" href="#" target="_blank">Daemogoth Titan</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a four mana 11/10. When you move to combat, Jenova can give it a counter, turning the Titan into a Mutant. Then you either sacrifice it to one of the effects we’ve mentioned before, or just attack with it on your turn. It’s a lose-lose situation for your opponents, since its sacrifice ability allows you to target itself.</p>
<h3>The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride</h3>

<p>Closing things out this week, we have a little bit of redundancy for your commander with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride" href="#" target="_blank">The Gitrog, Ravenous Ride</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. When I first saw Jenova, my mind immediately went to <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/otj" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Thunder Junction’s</em></a> take on this Frog Horror, and they work perfectly together.</p>
<p>Here’s a little example: before combat, have that <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Daemogoth Titan" href="#" target="_blank">Daemogoth Titan</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> saddle The Gitrog. Then move to combat and place a counter on the Titan turning it into a Mutant. Then, when The Gitrog deals damage to someone, you’ll sacrifice the Titan, which will draw you 12 cards with Gitrog, and then you can put up to twelve lands into play. Jenova will also trigger, drawing you another 12 cards… At that point, you’ll be so far ahead that the best hope your foes will have to take you out is that you draw yourself to death.</p>

Jenova, Ancient Calamity - Build a Team of Mutants on a Budget

<p>Believe it or not, the <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/fin" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Final Fantasy</em></a> set is almost here. Whether you’re going to a pre-release, a draft, buying packs, or just picking up singles, you’ll be getting tons of playable cards for Commander. Spoiler season has been headlined by some flashy rares and mythics, but today we'll be taking a look at a few great commons and uncommons that might've slipped under your radar.</p>
<p>My name is Tyler ‘Savesya’ Bucks, and on this edition of <em>Bulk Up</em> we're shining a spotlight on those cards people tend to skip over when opening a booster. With this list, I'll be highlighting new singles that can fit in a broader range of decks, or pair well with popular strategies. So, let’s not waste any more time and jump right into things!</p>
<h2>The Best Commons and Uncommons in <em>Final Fantasy</em></h2>
<h3>PuPu UFO</h3>

<p>Kicking things off this week with not only one of the best bulk cards of the set, but also one of the worst named cards of all time. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="PuPu UFO" href="#" target="_blank">PuPu UFO</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a great blocker that offers up some amazing ramp capabilities in the right build. If your deck is drawing one to two additional cards each turn rotation, there's a good chance you’ll be able to throw a land down with the UFO while still hitting your land drop for the turn.</p>
<p>As for a deck I'd suggest you add this little Alien to, let’s pair it up with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Niv-Mizzet, Parun" href="#" target="_blank">Niv-Mizzet, Parun</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Those decks are already filled with ways to draw cards, which means that from the start of the game you could be throwing down an additional land each turn rotation. Having the right lands to cast your commander is paramount in this deck, so that means you’ll be dropping that egotistical Dragon earlier than anyone is ready for.</p>
<h3>Summon: Fenrir</h3>

<p>Speaking of land ramp, the first Summon card we'll look at today can help with that. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Summon: Fenrir" href="#" target="_blank">Summon: Fenrir</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a Saga creature that fetches a basic land on its first chapter, gives a counter to a creature you cast on the second chapter, then draws you a card if you have the biggest creature on the board before sacrificing itself. If you're running a deck that's centered around creatures primarily, this might be more helpful than a normal <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cultivate" href="#" target="_blank">Cultivate</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in that deck.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tayam, Luminous Enigma" href="#" target="_blank">Tayam, Luminous Enigma</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> works perfectly with these new Saga creatures. Feeding into those counter synergies as well as the fact that you can bring them back to your board if they do end up in your graveyard. I recently did an <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/build-a-tayam-luminous-enigma-deck-with-your-dragonstorm-bulk" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article about a Tayam deck</a> made primarily out of bulk from <a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/tdm" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Tarkir: Dragonstorm</em></a>, and I definitely think you could start throwing some of these Summons in that list to power it up!</p>
<h3 class="m-2">Relm's Sketching</h3>

<p>You know what they say: if you can’t ramp lands, copy them. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Relm&#039;s Sketching" href="#" target="_blank">Relm&#039;s Sketching</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a sorcery that lets you copy the best land, artifact, or even creature on the board. Four mana is a little steep for getting a copy of something, but since you can grab three different permanent types, that kind of makes up for it if you ask me. Plus, as the years go on, we've been getting more and more ways to go off with tokens. So, as we get more sets, this spell will only continue to grow in value.</p>
<p>A really interesting commander from last year that would work great with this new spell is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Eluge, the Shoreless Sea" href="#" target="_blank">Eluge, the Shoreless Sea</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Not only does it care about lands, but it can also reduce the blue mana in the casting cost of instant and sorcery spells you cast. If you can copy the best creature, artifact, or land with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Relm&#039;s Sketching" href="#" target="_blank">Relm&#039;s Sketching</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for only two mana, you're definitely in a good position to take that game!</p>
<h3>Sidequest: Catch A Fish</h3>

<p>Next up, let’s turn an enchantment into a land with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sidequest: Catch a Fish" href="#" target="_blank">Sidequest: Catch a Fish</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. On the front side, this can help you draw a card, make you a Food token, and then flip over into a land. That's already really great, but that activated ability of the land shouldn’t be overlooked. Sacrificing an artifact, like the Food you just made, to put a +1/+1 counter on all your creatures is a really good effect to keep in your back pocket.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Alela, Artful Provocateur" href="#" target="_blank">Alela, Artful Provocateur</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a commander that cares both about enchantments as well as artifacts, making it perfect for this Sidequest. Creating a Faerie when you cast the enchantment side, and then again when you cast the artifact you draw off the top is very nice. Once it’s flipped over to that land side, you can wait for the right moment to throw a counter on your board of flyers to help them pack even more of a punch.</p>
<h3>Summon: G.F. Ifrit</h3>

<p>Our next entry on this list offers both card rummaging and a little bit of ramp. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Summon: G.F. Ifrit" href="#" target="_blank">Summon: G.F. Ifrit</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is another Saga creature that gives you the ability to discard a card to draw a card for its first two chapters, and then its final two gives you a red mana on your first main phase. A card like this can help you sculpt a better hand for your late game and then gives you some additional mana to enact those plans.</p>
<p>Let's go back to a classic mono-red commander with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Feldon of the Third Path" href="#" target="_blank">Feldon of the Third Path</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. He cares about filling up the graveyard with threats to replace his wife with, so the Summon’s ability to throw cards in the bin that you can make tokens of later is a great pairing. Then it will give you some extra mana that you can use to activate that ability, helping smooth out your later turns.</p>
<h3>Overkill</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Overkill"></div></div>
<p>This next card might be in the running for the most aptly named spell of all time: <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Overkill" href="#" target="_blank">Overkill</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. If you or someone you know is still a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Murder" href="#" target="_blank">Murder</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> believer (and I know you’re out there) this is just another nail in your favorite kill spell’s coffin. Giving a creature -0/-9999 at instant speed is just a wild ability and can help get you out of some extra tricky situations. Indestructible creatures won’t stand a chance against <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Overkill" href="#" target="_blank">Overkill</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, which is especially brutal if someone was holding up a protection spell like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Boros Charm" href="#" target="_blank">Boros Charm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> to protect a key piece.</p>
<p>If you’re looking to make your opponents' creatures die with zero toughness, then <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Massacre Girl, Known Killer" href="#" target="_blank">Massacre Girl, Known Killer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is the commander for you! Her decks are usually filled with all kinds of ways to lower the board's stats, drawing you a whole bunch of cards all at once. Which is great value, but sometimes you just need to clear one thing off the board. So, three mana to remove a threat, and then draw a card isn’t too bad of a combo.</p>
<h3>Phoenix Down</h3>

<p>One of the most important items in the <em>Final Fantasy</em> franchise is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Phoenix Down" href="#" target="_blank">Phoenix Down</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and its ability was perfectly captured with this card. Sure, the ability to snipe a few specific creature types might come up in a game once in a while. However, the main star of the show is that recursion ability. The fact that this can sit on the battlefield gives you the opportunity to activate it when the time is right. Pair this with a commander that loves to fill your graveyard, and your deck just got all the more resilient.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Queen Kayla bin-Kroog" href="#" target="_blank">Queen Kayla bin-Kroog</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a commander I’ve considered building around for a while, because it just plays so well with cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Phoenix Down" href="#" target="_blank">Phoenix Down</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Since Queen Kayla has you discard your hand, and lets you return some of the cards you threw away to the battlefield, you can choose this new artifact to be one of them. Once it’s on your board, you can then use it to bring back something else you discarded, which helps give you even more access to the cards in your bin.</p>
<h3>Self-Destruct</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Self-Destruct"></div></div>
<p>We have a new addition in the long line of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Fling" href="#" target="_blank">Fling</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>-style spells with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Self-Destruct" href="#" target="_blank">Self-Destruct</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Two mana for an instant-speed way for one of your creatures to deal a killing blow to a troublesome creature or even an opponent is a great rate. The fact that it deals that damage to itself as well is where things can get tricky. Of course, if your creature’s power is lower than its toughness that's great, but if the creature you choose is indestructible you don’t have to deal with that downside.</p>
<p>I recently did an <a href="https://edhrec.com/articles/building-kuja-genome-sorcerer-on-a-budget-fourteen-cards-under-14" target="_blank" rel="noopener">article covering the new card</a> for <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, which was based around Wizards and burn. If you're planning to build that deck, I think you should consider throwing <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Self-Destruct" href="#" target="_blank">Self-Destruct</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in there. Once Kuja doubles the damage your Wizards do, this new instant could be a way to just take a player out at any point. Sure, you might lose one of your creatures in the process, but that’s a risk Kuja is willing to take.</p>
<h3>Quina, Qu Gourmet</h3>

<p>Token strategies are incredibly popular, especially in green, which is what makes <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Quina, Qu Gourmet" href="#" target="_blank">Quina, Qu Gourmet</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> such a great Legend in the uncommon slot. Whenever you make any type of token, you will also make a 1/1 Frog. That means you can be adding more bodies to a board with other creature tokens or give a bit more punching power to a deck that only makes noncreature tokens, like Treasures, Clues, or Food.</p>
<p>Let’s make our own little <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/blb" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Bloomburrow</a></em> party with Quina and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Chatterfang, Squirrel General" href="#" target="_blank">Chatterfang, Squirrel General</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. With just those two out, anytime you make a token you’ll also make a Frog and a Squirrel. That turns a popular card like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tireless Provisioner" href="#" target="_blank">Tireless Provisioner</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> into an outlet for getting three tokens anytime a land enters your board. Just think about that interaction for every other token engine in your deck… Now that's what I call value right there!</p>

Amazing Commons &#038; Uncommons from the Final Fantasy Set

<p>When I was a child watching my brothers play <em>Final Fantasy IX</em>, I was obsessed with the character of Zidane. Not only did I have long blonde hair, I also had a tail… Okay, one of those things was a lie (which one? You decide!). So when I first saw his card, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Zidane, Tantalus Thief" href="#" target="_blank">Zidane, Tantalus Thief</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, I loved how it captured his generous yet rambunctious nature.</p>
<p>Today we'll be looking at a fun direction to take this commander in: borrowing cards from other players, as well as gifting them some pieces that benefit you at the same time. My name is Tyler ‘Savesya’ Bucks, and with all that in mind, let’s take a look at fourteen cards for under $14 that will get you started on a brand new <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/fin" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Final Fantasy</a></em> deck!</p>
<h2>Zidane, Tantalus Thief</h2>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Zidane, Tantalus Thief"></div></div>
<p>The first thought that came to mind when I saw <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Zidane, Tantalus Thief" href="#" target="_blank">Zidane, Tantalus Thief</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> was his synergy with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Threaten" href="#" target="_blank">Threaten</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> effects. Sure, I could fill this list with every version of that type of card, but that would be a little one-note. If you have a lot of those cards, throw them in this deck!</p>
<p>This list will showcase some interesting ways to steal your opponents' cards, whether it's one at a time or multiple all at once. We'll also look at a few spells that will “gift” cards to other players, so that you can get a Treasure in return. Finally, at the end of the list, I'll showcase two cards that represent a few tricky directions you can take this commander.</p>
<h3>Kari Zev's Expertise</h3>

<p>Kicking things off with one of my favorite versions of a Threaten effect, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kari Zev&#039;s Expertise" href="#" target="_blank">Kari Zev&#039;s Expertise</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Three mana is the going rate for stealing a creature for a turn, but adding the ability to cast a spell with mana value two or less for free is what sets this apart. Sure, you might only hit something like a Signet or cheap removal off of this, but that’s better than nothing when you consider you'll also get a Treasure once you return the creature you borrowed.</p>
<h3>Claim the Firstborn</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Claim the Firstborn"></div></div>
<p>Like I said at that start of this article, I won’t fill this list with too many Threaten effects, but <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Claim the Firstborn" href="#" target="_blank">Claim the Firstborn</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is too good not to include. One mana to take a creature with mana value three or less is incredibly powerful, especially in this deck, since you’ll get that mana back when you make that Treasure. You don’t always need to get the biggest thing from your opponents; as long as you’re stealing cards, Zidane will be happy!</p>
<h3>Captivating Crew</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Captivating Crew"></div></div>
<p>Say you have a lot of Treasure tokens sitting around, and nothing to dump them all into. That’s where a card like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Captivating Crew" href="#" target="_blank">Captivating Crew</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can truly shine. Four mana to steal one creature for a turn isn’t the greatest rate, but if you have the resources to swipe several creatures at a time, it could turn the game in your favor. Plus, at the end of your turn, you’ll make a Treasure for each creature you give back.</p>
<h3>Frenzied Fugue</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Frenzied Fugue"></div></div>
<p>Speaking of four-mana theft spells, next up we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Frenzied Fugue" href="#" target="_blank">Frenzied Fugue</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. When this enters, and at the beginning of your upkeep, you’re going to steal the enchanted permanent until end of turn. Since this is a repeatable way to take something and then give it back on each of your turns, it’ll be a nice little Treasure making engine. Also, don’t overlook the fact that you can steal any permanent with this card like lands or even planeswalkers.</p>
<h3>Call for Aid</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Call for Aid"></div></div>
<p>These next two cards will show off the power of stealing your opponents' things en masse. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Call for Aid" href="#" target="_blank">Call for Aid</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> lets you gain control of all the creatures target opponent controls, which is a major shift in your favor even though you can’t attack them that turn. Plus, once you give all those creatures back, you’ll be making a huge number of Treasure tokens, which can set you up for your endgame from there.</p>
<h3>Insurrection</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Insurrection"></div></div>
<p>Taking all the creatures from one player is great, but taking all the creatures on the battlefield is even better! <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Insurrection" href="#" target="_blank">Insurrection</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is the most expensive card on this list, and for good reason. Back in the early days of Commander, this card used to be a favorite win-con for many red decks. When paired with Zidane, this spell will make you a whole lot of Treasures when you give those creatures back to anyone who survived the onslaught. (Also see <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mob Rule" href="#" target="_blank">Mob Rule</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for another budget option.)</p>
<h3>Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos</h3>

<p>Moving on to the cards I’m titling “Gifts,” we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos" href="#" target="_blank">Alexios, Deimos of Kosmos</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This is a creature you can give away to each opponent on their turn, which has to attack, can’t attack you, and grows with counters. With this creature and your commander alone, you’ll be making three Treasures and forcing your opponents to whittle each others' life totals down in the process.</p>
<h3>Yes Man, Personal Securitron</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Yes Man, Personal Securitron"></div></div>
<p>Up next is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Yes Man, Personal Securitron" href="#" target="_blank">Yes Man, Personal Securitron</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. This deck can benefit from a little bit of politics, since you'll be handing out some value pieces during the game. Yes Man is a prime example of this, where you can make a deal with another player to give it back and forth to each other throughout the game. Drawing two cards and making a Treasure token is a nice combo. Plus, you could make a large amount of Soldier tokens when this creature leaves the battlefield.</p>
<h3>Coveted Jewel</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Coveted Jewel"></div></div>
<p>Possibly the wackiest card on this list is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Coveted Jewel" href="#" target="_blank">Coveted Jewel</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. For six mana you'll draw three cards and get a rock that taps for three mana; sounds like a good rate to me! However, if someone attacks you and you don't block all the attackers, they gain control of the Jewel. Luckily, your commander will make you a Treasure when that happens. Plus, since this deck’s main goal is to take creatures and attack with them, there’s a good chance you'd be able to swing right over and take the Jewel back on your next turn.</p>
<h3>Humble Defector</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Humble Defector"></div></div>
<p>I recently built a deck around <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Jolly Balloon Man" href="#" target="_blank">The Jolly Balloon Man</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and got extremely excited to find a new home for <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Humble Defector" href="#" target="_blank">Humble Defector</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Drawing two cards just for tapping this creature is a great rate. However, you have to give it away once you do that. This is where incorporating some politics into your games will be the most beneficial, since you could just trade the Defector back and forth with the same player. Drawing two and creating a Treasure on each of your turns is the type of value that can help you close out games.</p>
<h3>Hithlain Rope</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Hithlain Rope"></div></div>
<p>Our next card on the list offers some more possible card draw as well as land ramp, just for the small price of handing it over to the player to your right. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hithlain Rope" href="#" target="_blank">Hithlain Rope</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> gives players two different options they can activate, which could help incentivize them to pass this card around the table, depending on what they need in that moment. The main drawback is that you have to pass it to your right, which means it'll take a little longer to get back to you. However, in this deck, giving it away once might be enough value for one game.</p>
<h3>Discerning Financier</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Discerning Financier"></div></div>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Discerning Financier" href="#" target="_blank">Discerning Financier</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> raised my eyebrows when I first saw it in one of my <em><a href="https://edhrec.com/sets/woe" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Wilds of Eldraine</a></em> boosters. Making you a Treasure if your opponents have more lands than you is nice to have around. The main star in this card’s text box comes from the fact that you can pass an opponent a Treasure to draw a card for three mana. If you have your commander out when you do that, you’ll be at parity with your Treasures, since you’ll make a new one just for handing it out. This is great for making deals with other players, since you're not going down in resources.</p>
<h3>Kazuul's Fury</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Kazuul&#039;s Fury"></div></div>
<p>Our final two cards will highlight some of the ways you can take this deck, while still fitting in any build for this commander. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kazuul&#039;s Fury" href="#" target="_blank">Kazuul&#039;s Fury</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Fling" href="#" target="_blank">Fling</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> style effect that’s attached to a land on the backside, making it feel free to run. Sure, giving the cards you steal back to your opponents makes you lose those Treasures, but sometimes you want to just get a threat off the board entirely. This spell, and other cards like it, are definitely a direction to go if you’re looking to make this a meaner build.</p>
<h3>Cloudshift</h3>
<div class="edhrecp__cards"><div class="edhrecp__card-container" name="Cloudshift"></div></div>
<p>Finally, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cloudshift" href="#" target="_blank">Cloudshift</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, which can save one of your important creatures when you need it; but there’s something more sinister lurking behind this card. With the wording it has, when you exile a creature you've stolen, it comes back to play under your control, not its owner. Recent blink cards aren’t usually worded this way, so finding a few cards that let you steal something for the rest of the game could be extra tricky for your opponents to deal with.</p>
<h2>In Closing</h2>

Even if you aren't the most excited to see cards from this video game series enter <em>Magic</em>, you do have to admit that some of these new designs are incredible. One of the legendary creatures that has taken the internet by storm already is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>When I was young, my brothers played through <em>Final Fantasy IX</em> and I'll be honest with everyone here: Kuja was terrifying to me... So, it seems only fitting that I would overcome my fear for this villain and bring you fourteen cards for under $14 to help you get started on brewing around this commander on a budget. Strap in, throw <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d4AQ7kRcn_A" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kuja's awesome theme</a> on, and get ready to bring the house down with your accursed flames!</p>
<h2>What Does Kuja, Genome Sorcerer Do?</h2>

<p>Coming in straight from my childhood nightmares to terrorize your playgroup, we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. On its front side, you'll be making an 0/1 Wizard on your endstep that pings your opponents when you cast noncreature spells. Then, after you control four or more Wizards, Kuja will flip to his other side, Trance Kuja, Fate Defied, which then doubles the damage any of your Wizards deal from there on out.</p>
<p>Since this commander costs four mana, there's a good chance you'll have a Wizard or two out already by the time you cast him. That means you'll be flipping over to the damage doubling side sooner than most people think. So, with this list I'll be highlighting some great Wizards that pair nicely with that second side of Kuja, as well as some big noncreature spells that can help set you far ahead the rest of the table, especially when paired with those little Wizard tokens.</p>
<p>Let's take a look at the list now.</p>
<h3>Coruscation Mage</h3>

<p>Our first card this week is a perfect Wizard for this list. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Coruscation Mage" href="#" target="_blank">Coruscation Mage</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> deals a damage to each opponent when you cast a noncreature spell, which is the main goal of this deck already. It also can come with an offspring token, to add even more fuel to its fire. Once your Kuja flips, you could possibly be dealing four damage to your foes over and over again. Pair this Otter with your small Wizard tokens, and it's time to really deal some pain.</p>
<h3>Gleeful Arsonist</h3>

<p>This next card fills a similar role to our last entry, and it comes with an added layer of protection. If <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gleeful Arsonist" href="#" target="_blank">Gleeful Arsonist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> happens to get killed as your game goes on, that undying effect is here to bring it right back with a +1/+1 counter on it. Since the Arsonist deals damage to your opponents equal to its power, you'll almost prefer it to get destroyed just so it can come back better than ever! Plus, this card looks like it fits right in with Kuja and his antics...</p>
<h3>Irencrag Pyromancer</h3>

<p>Decks built around this new commander will most likely be filled with cantrips (spells that have an effect and also draws you a card), to help trigger your Wizard's pinging abilities as often as you can. If your build of the deck goes in that direction, then <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Irencrag Pyromancer" href="#" target="_blank">Irencrag Pyromancer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is perfect for you. Of course, the ability to double its damage could just end games for you, but even dealing three damage as its base level can clear up your opponents' threats. Dropping this on turn three could just halt a lot of other players' game plans if they're concerned you could just wipe their value pieces off the board.</p>
<h3>Blood Cultist</h3>

<p>Another great way to keep the board clear of small threats is with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Blood Cultist" href="#" target="_blank">Blood Cultist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Tapping to deal one damage isn't too bad, especially when you can ping things down to grow your creature. However, once Kuja has flipped over to his other side, you can then deal two damage to enemy creatures or just swing in with a big beefy Cultist. One way or another, adding this card to your deck will be a thorn in everyone else's sides.</p>
<h3>Basalt Ravager</h3>

<p>Next up is a card you might want to hold on to until your board is just right. Sure, you can slam <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Basalt Ravager" href="#" target="_blank">Basalt Ravager</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> down before you have double damage and it would probably make a big impact. However, if you wait until the right time and Kuja has been flipped over, you could possibly just take a player out of the game. On top of that burn damage the Ravager offers, it can also swing in to deal eight damage if you put it in the red zone.</p>
<h3>Anathemancer</h3>

<p>Speaking of game enders, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Anathemancer" href="#" target="_blank">Anathemancer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> can truly take some of the more lavish players at your table out of the game. When it enters, it hits one of your opponents with a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Price of Progress" href="#" target="_blank">Price of Progress</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>-esque effect, which, when paired with a damage doubler, could be backbreaking. This type of spell is great for picking off a player who might be more ahead than the rest of the table, after they fill their board with stacks of specialty lands. Also, even though <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Anathemancer" href="#" target="_blank">Anathemancer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>'s unearth is expensive, you could take someone by surprise late in the game to close things out.</p>
<h3>Harmonic Prodigy</h3>

<p>Alright, since we're midway through the list, it's time to double everything our Wizards are doing with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Harmonic Prodigy" href="#" target="_blank">Harmonic Prodigy</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>! So far, every creature we've talked about has had a triggered ability, which means that when the Prodigy is out, your game plan is going to go up a level. With <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> flipped, doubling your Wizard's damage, that 0/1 token is dealing four damage whenever you cast a noncreature spell. Which is already crazy, but then you drop something like that <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Anathemancer" href="#" target="_blank">Anathemancer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> we just talked about... That could be game over.</p>
<h3>Harnesser of Storms</h3>

<p>This deck is already looking to cast as many noncreature spells as possible, so adding a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Harnesser of Storms" href="#" target="_blank">Harnesser of Storms</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> to the list will ensure you're constantly churning through your library. This deck will most likely be an <em>all-in</em> type of strategy, so having an effect to dig deeper into your library while you're progressing through a risky turn will be a big help. Even if this creature only assists you with hitting your land drops each turn, you'll be happy to have it on your team.</p>
<h3>Party Thrasher</h3>

<p>If you happen to have a lot of those 0/1 tokens sitting around, why not throw a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Party Thrasher" href="#" target="_blank">Party Thrasher</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> down and have them help you cast your spells? Giving convoke to all your noncreature spells is a great way to push through that last little bit of damage to the rest of the table, by chaining several powerful spells together on the same turn. Plus, even if you run out of threats to cast, the Thrasher has a way to exile two cards from your library and ensure you can keep this pain train rolling.</p>
<h3>Electrostatic Infantry</h3>

<p>A majority of the noncreature spells you'll be casting in a deck like this will be instants and sorceries, which is exactly what <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Electrostatic Infantry" href="#" target="_blank">Electrostatic Infantry</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> loves to see. Gaining a counter whenever you sling one of those spells is great, especially when you make it to the late game and can double the trampling damage this creature can offer. Given enough time, this could be a way to slam through your opponent's defenses and turn their chump blockers into chump change (I don't even know if that made sense).</p>
<h3>Taurean Mauler</h3>

<p>Listen, I know this bull thing doesn’t look like a Wizard, but technically <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Taurean Mauler" href="#" target="_blank">Taurean Mauler</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a part of that team. Throwing this onto the field in the early game and letting it grow to a massive size just means that you can consistently pressure the boards of the other players at the table. On top of that, the next few spells I'll be talking about on this list work perfectly when you have a big creature like the Mauler, which is just champing at the bit for its damage to be doubled!</p>
<h3>Soul's Fire</h3>

<p>Next up, we have a spell that's similar to <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Fling" href="#" target="_blank">Fling</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, but lets you keep your creature around. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Soul&#039;s Fire" href="#" target="_blank">Soul&#039;s Fire</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> allows one of your Wizards to deal damage equal to its power to any target. When played in conjunction with the flip side of <span class="edhrecp__link only-back"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, you can deal a big chunk of damage to anything! Think of that with either of our last two cards on the list, and that's a way to wipe one of your foes out of the game completely, at instant speed.</p>
<h3>Chandra's Ignition</h3>

<p>One of the most impactful spells on the entire list is <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Chandra&#039;s Ignition" href="#" target="_blank">Chandra&#039;s Ignition</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Not only is this spell a board wipe, but when paired with a large Wizard, it could take your opponents' life totals down to single digits; all while clearing the way for your last remaining threat to swing through freely and deal another major blow. This card is a staple in our format, so be sure to snatch one up just in case that price starts to climb higher and higher.</p>
<h3>Surge to Victory</h3>

<p>We're closing things out this week with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Surge to Victory" href="#" target="_blank">Surge to Victory</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, basically an <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Overrun" href="#" target="_blank">Overrun</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> effect in this deck. Giving your board a buff to their power based on the mana value of the spell you exile is great for a big swing, especially since those 0/1 Wizard tokens can finally enter into combat. Then, you get to cast a copy of that spell when your creatures hit a player, which just adds insult to injury! Imagine casting <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Soul&#039;s Fire" href="#" target="_blank">Soul&#039;s Fire</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> over and over again after a big combat? That's brutal.</p>
<h2>In Closing</h2>
<p>Well, there you have it: fourteen cards for under $14 to help get you started on a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kuja, Genome Sorcerer" href="#" target="_blank">Kuja, Genome Sorcerer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> deck. I know the <em>Final Fantasy</em> set is still almost a month away, but grabbing these cards for a low price now will help you in the long run.</p>
