Hello, and welcome to another installment of Lore Seeker, an article series devoted to the legendary creatures to whom Wizards of the Coast forgot to give a story. I'll guide you through each aspect that makes up a legendary creature and finally give them a little extra background attention. This time around we’ll be highlighting <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist" href="#" target="_blank">Ludevic, Necro-Alchemist</a>.

When talking about Ludevic, it's nearly impossible to avoid his ultimate creation, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Kraum, Ludevic&#039;s Opus" href="#" target="_blank">Kraum, Ludevic&#039;s Opus</a>, and because they both have Partner, the deck we build will have both of them as its commanders.

<h1>Story Circle</h1>
Ludevic of Ulm is a reclusive necro-alchemist that lives in Havengul on the plane of Innistrad. In his necro-alchemical pursuits, he aims for more than simply the creation of Skaabs. Instead, Ludevic aims to understand the horror his creations inspire. Some think that Ludevic's consumption of potions and inhalation of toxic vapors has left him no choice but to abandon his experiments, leaving him to devote his sizable intellect to the problem of making himself and his business partners filthy rich. He has taken Geralf Cecani under his wing, training him in the arts of necro-alchemy.

A necro-alchemist is a wizard that harnesses the energy of Geists to fuel crazed technological inventions. Effectively, they achieve necromancy through alchemical means. Also known as "skaberen," these wizards hone the craft of creating frankensteinian monstrosities known as Skaabs. Skaabs are blue-aligned Zombies that frequently interact with the graveyard, either through putting cards there from the top of the library, or requiring creatures (corpses) to be exiled from your graveyard. Using up dead bodies to craft a Skaab evokes images of a crazed scientist in a lab coat standing over a piecemeal behemoth abomination, periodically illuminated by blindingly bright arcs of electricity, and we can see through various cards in the game that Ludevic's protégé, Geralf, is following in his mentor's footsteps.

Blue: Intelligence is king; a Wizard must accumulate as much knowledge as possible. Blue is controlled and calculated.
Red: Impulsive and rash, red is the wild inventor. Exploring an idea only as long as it holds their attention.
Izzet (blue/red): Leaping from one ill-conceived experiment to another, an Izzet mage is able to spend much time studying, but will abandon fruitless pursuits for more promising experiments. Blue and red embody the mad scientist moving from one obsessive project to the next.

Ludevic is Magic: the Gathering's Dr. Frankenstein. Unlike that unfortunate would-be giver of life, however, Ludevic is enthralled by his creation and loves the horror Kraum brings to the denizens of Havengul. Instead of running away from the meat golem, Ludevic studies it.
A simple way to build the deck would be as a Zombie tribal deck. The colors of Ludevic don't line up with the primary color of the Zombie tribe (black), and though Ludevic does create monstrosities, he is truly obsessed with the horror he can inflict. The primary path to victory for this deck is a bit of a cobbled together monstrosity itself. Mill, resource denial, and punisher themes all come together here to form a rather annoying deck that, oddly enough, functions a bit like a Group Hug deck. The card that best showcases this idea is <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Fevered Visions" href="#" target="_blank">Fevered Visions</a>.

It functions similarly to <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Howling Mine" href="#" target="_blank">Howling Mine</a>, but asks for a bit in return. This is exactly how we want Ludevic to function. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sulfuric Vortex" href="#" target="_blank">Sulfuric Vortex</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Copper Tablet" href="#" target="_blank">Copper Tablet</a> pair with Ludevic to fuel our own Fevered Visions.

Ludevic is a somewhat political commander. Using his ability to point aggression elsewhere is a good way to keep your life total higher than your opponents'. However, I want to trigger this for other people; I want people to have so many cards in their hands that they feel inclined to decline the draw. As mentioned before, using cards like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sulfuric Vortex" href="#" target="_blank">Sulfuric Vortex</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Copper Tablet" href="#" target="_blank">Copper Tablet</a> will automatically trigger Ludevic on each of your opponents' turns.
With Ludevic filling the hand, we have access to a few extra options to deal continual damage to our opponents that rely upon the number of cards in hand.

When selecting corpses for experimentation, those with large, healthy brains make the most excellent servants. If he is feeling particularly generous, Ludevic will take those less naturally gifted and give them some lessons. In Magic, a thought in one's mind is represented by a card in hand. With Ludevic's ability, we're hoping to load up everyone's hand with as many cards as possible; let's get those brains nice and fat, ready for the harvest.

The next step in our gameplan is to limit our opponents' ability to take advantage of their bounty. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Arcane Laboratory" href="#" target="_blank">Arcane Laboratory</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Damping Sphere" href="#" target="_blank">Damping Sphere</a> limit the amount of spells cast each turn. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mana Maze" href="#" target="_blank">Mana Maze</a>, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Winter Orb" href="#" target="_blank">Winter Orb</a>, and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Static Orb" href="#" target="_blank">Static Orb</a> all inhibit mana production. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Forced Fruition" href="#" target="_blank">Forced Fruition</a> fits in this category as well because our opponent will never be able to empty their hands, which is the main goal of this group of cards.

The basic lands I've selected for Ludevic and Kraum are, appropriately, from the plane of Innistrad. The isolated tower on the water is the perfect quiet place to experiment while the small valley hamlet provides Kraum plenty of individuals to terrorize.
The deck has a very slim average converted mana cost, coming in just under three, and it boasts a healthy dose of card draw. These two factors make it run smoothly and consistently. It's fairly defenseless, aside from a few board wipes, so play them sparingly. People will absolutely get annoyed by a lot of the things this deck does, and aggression towards you is to be expected. Ultimately, the deck operates like a less-tuned <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Nekusar, the Mindrazer" href="#" target="_blank">Nekusar, the Mindrazer</a> deck, but with loads of flavor.
No card costs over $20, and the deck as a whole sits around $250 if you were to assemble it yourself. The most surprising cost is <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Copper Tablet" href="#" target="_blank">Copper Tablet</a>, which was once on the Reserved List pre-2002.

<h1>Epilogue</h1>
I hope I've fueled your mind for your next experiment. The data on EDHREC relating to Partner commanders is a little hazy, but <a href="https://edhrec.com/commanders/kraum-ludevics-opus-ludevic-necro-alchemist">Ludevic and Kraum</a> command only 114 decks together. This is likely due to the fact that the main reason to run Partner commanders is to add additional colors. Whatever the reason, the two actually work decently well together; if Ludevic is giving out extra cards, your opponents will have more spells to cast, triggering Kraum. This build capitalizes on the extra card draw in order to find the cards that finally hinder the ability to cast extra spells in a turn rather than to draw cards throughout the entire game.

<h1>Heigh-Ho, Heigh-Ho!</h1>
<a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Once Upon a Time" href="#" target="_blank">Once Upon a Time</a>, in the magical land known as EDHREC, there was a collection of sad, neglected cards, each played in 300 decks or less. But these cards knew that, despite the minimal amount of attention they garnered, one day their prince would come and use them in some amazing strategy no one else was playing. That prince was named Forgotten Harvest.

You'll have to forgive my fanciful introduction, but today we're all about fairy tales in this edition of Forgotten Harvest. Specifically, we're going to look at the new Throne of Eldraine card, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a>. Now, we're limited to only using seven copies of this card in the deck, which is better than the traditional one copy, but is probably going to need some help if we want some really big Dwarves. Thus, we're going to pair these <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> with a copy/token strategy led by the great <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer" href="#" target="_blank">Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer</a>.
The goal here will be to build up an army of Dwarves that all pump one another, and then either grant them evasion with <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Levitation" href="#" target="_blank">Levitation</a> or <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Archetype of Aggression" href="#" target="_blank">Archetype of Aggression</a>, or clear the rest of the board with something like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ghired&#039;s Belligerence" href="#" target="_blank">Ghired&#039;s Belligerence</a>, before making one big attack.
We'll start by talking about how we can reliably get at least a couple of the <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> onto the battlefield from our deck. Then we'll get into some options for turning our existing creatures into one of the Seven. Finally, we'll cover some great and underplayed token-making options in Izzet. How does that sound?

<h2>Don't be Bashful!</h2>

According to math, you've got a 41% chance of drawing one of the <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> in your opening hand. And while Izzet isn't well known for its creature tutors, blue does make it pretty easy to get a second copy of something once you have your first. For instance, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mitotic Manipulation" href="#" target="_blank">Mitotic Manipulation</a> is a great way to knock through a chunk of your deck on the hunt for a second Dwarf. It also can hunt for a basic land, should that be needed instead. For that second reason, especially, I think this card could see play in more than the 81 decks that use it right now.
Should one of your <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> still be in your hand, you could always use an activation from <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Assembly Hall" href="#" target="_blank">Assembly Hall</a> to nab a second. It's understandable why such a card that depends on multiple copies to be relevant would see so little play in Commander. I mean, it's only in 5 decks right now on the site! F-I-V-E!!! <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Thrumming Stone" href="#" target="_blank">Thrumming Stone</a> is the likely culprit, pushing <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Assembly Hall" href="#" target="_blank">Assembly Hall</a> out of <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Persistent Petitioners" href="#" target="_blank">Persistent Petitioners</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Shadowborn Apostle" href="#" target="_blank">Shadowborn Apostle</a> decks. For this deck, though, given the upper limit of seven copies of our Dwarves, the Hall is going to play so much better, and be worth the mana investment. If you'd prefer this ability, but in creature form, I also recommend the recently-printed <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pattern Matcher" href="#" target="_blank">Pattern Matcher</a> (only in 9 decks).
When you want to get another Dwarf into play quickly, perhaps even as a combat trick, nothing beats <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mask of the Mimic" href="#" target="_blank">Mask of the Mimic</a> from Stronghold. For a measly blue mana, you can swap out a token at the end of an opponent's turn for a second copy of <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a>. Again, this isn't the strongest card for your typical singleton build. Nor does it play well with <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Persistent Petitioners" href="#" target="_blank">Persistent Petitioners</a> decks where, odds are, you'd end up just trading one Petitioner for another. This is verified by the 13 decks that use it on the site. Here, however, it's a champion!

<h2>Because I'm Happy!</h2>

There are so many great clone and copy-making cards in Izzet, and they all see plenty of play. Cards like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rite of Replication" href="#" target="_blank">Rite of Replication</a>, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mimic Vat" href="#" target="_blank">Mimic Vat</a>, and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Helm of the Host" href="#" target="_blank">Helm of the Host</a> have become auto-includes in typical <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer" href="#" target="_blank">Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer</a> decks. There are also a few not-so-well-known cards that can create a similar effect, and help to boost our <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> to the max.
<a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tilonalli&#039;s Skinshifter" href="#" target="_blank">Tilonalli&#039;s Skinshifter</a> is a great eighth copy of <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> when on the attack. Plus, it has the added versatility to become a second copy of <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rapacious One" href="#" target="_blank">Rapacious One</a> should the moment call for it. It's only in 188 decks right now, but this clone ability in mono-red is a rare thing. Couple that with red's evasion options and the number of cards red has that trigger abilities on combat damage, and this card seems very undervalued, generally speaking.
Then, there's one of my favorite Magic cards: <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spy Kit" href="#" target="_blank">Spy Kit</a>. It can make any of your creatures into a <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> in name, adding one more round of +1/+1 to all of the Dwarf brethren. It combos very well with <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mask of the Mimic" href="#" target="_blank">Mask of the Mimic</a>, letting you grab any creature out of your deck and drop it onto the battlefield. Even the +1/+1 boost from the Equipment is relevant, when played with the self-immolating card <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Goblin Kaboomist" href="#" target="_blank">Goblin Kaboomist</a>. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Spy Kit" href="#" target="_blank">Spy Kit</a> needs to see play in more than the 51 decks that currently use it. Please help me out by looking out for other potential uses.

<h2>What's Up, Doc?</h2>

The last piece of this deck is to ensure there are plenty of tokens that we can turn into our copied <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seven Dwarves" href="#" target="_blank">Seven Dwarves</a> using Brudiclad's ability. Along with standard token-making options like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Dockside Extortionist" href="#" target="_blank">Dockside Extortionist</a>, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Bloodforged Battle-Axe" href="#" target="_blank">Bloodforged Battle-Axe</a>, and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Notorious Throng" href="#" target="_blank">Notorious Throng</a>, I've also included some lesser-played options for getting our token numbers up.
One of the first places I looked for red and blue token production was the cycle of token-creating Spellshapers from Future Sight. All of these creatures are underplayed, including <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cloudseeder" href="#" target="_blank">Cloudseeder</a> (86 decks), <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sparkspitter" href="#" target="_blank">Sparkspitter</a> (64 decks), and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sliversmith" href="#" target="_blank">Sliversmith</a> (129 decks). Now, none of these cards are going to provide an explosive swarm of tokens a la <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Clone Legion" href="#" target="_blank">Clone Legion</a>, but they all come out early and can generate steady tokens for several turns in anticipation of <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer" href="#" target="_blank">Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer</a> with a huge payoff. These tokens can also be great for chump blocking or sacrificing to <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mask of the Mimic" href="#" target="_blank">Mask of the Mimic</a>.
A card I'm surprised that I get to talk about, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Faerie Formation" href="#" target="_blank">Faerie Formation</a>, feels far too good compared to the number of decks that use it (259 at the time of writing). I guess I have the lack of Brawl deck availability to thank when discussing this powerful token generator. Four mana feels like a steal when you get to draw a card and create a 1/1 flyer. On a five-mana 5/4 body with evasion, this Faerie is all kinds of good. Hopefully with the second print run of the Brawl decks we can see its numbers go up.

Hello, EDHREC! I’m Bernardo Melibeu and this is Epic Experiment, a series where we throw all common sense aside and experiment with some unusual strategies, changing how we normally play our deck. Is it going to work? Who knows?! We’re making science here. When you’re an Izzet mage, blowing things up is half the fun.
In this article, let's talk about the most iconic Izzet powercouple: <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tibor and Lumia" href="#" target="_blank">Tibor and Lumia</a>!
Let’s start by taking a quick look at their kit:

Whenever you cast a blue spell, target creature gains flying until end of turn.
Whenever you cast a red spell, Tibor and Lumia deals 1 damage to each creature without flying.
Observation 1: It's hard to keep triggering both abilities. First, we need to cast about 1.5 spells a turn. Second, in Commander (especially while not playing green) we have a natural reliance on artifacts, meaning that when we factor in lands, our deck will be about 50% colorless cards, triggering neither ability on our commander.
Observation 2: While their kit is really open, it heavily favors control strategies, since there're a lot pieces that help enhance the red trigger ability and keep non-flying creatures off the board.
Observation 3: Because of the aforementioned pieces, we need to keep Tibor and Lumia in the air so they don't get friendly fired, which means that either we have lots of blue spells in hand, or we need flying enablers.
Observation 4: It's hard to find a balance between blue and red spells, but some concessions must be made to get the most out of each trigger.

<h1>The Old Formula</h1>
Let's take a quick look on their EDHREC page:

As we can see, their Top and Signature Cards revolve around the ability to lock creatures down. This is done with effects like with spells like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Charisma" href="#" target="_blank">Charisma</a>, which allows you to gain control of an enemy creature when Tibor gives it flying, or with effects like and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Basilisk Collar" href="#" target="_blank">Basilisk Collar</a>, which destroys all the creatures Lumia deals 1 damage to. The remaining cards either keep the commanders flying themselves, to stay out of range of danger, or are simply generic UR Spellslinger cards.

<h1>The Epic Ingredients</h1>
There's a saying that goes, "When in Rome, do as Romans do," which was kind of the inspiration for this particular article. What's the newest set? War of The Spark. What's it about? Planeswalkers fighting each other. Welp, that was a freebie!
Planeswalkers are usually a risky proposition in multiplayer games. Their usual kit of card advantage/removal/game changing ultimate doesn't translate well against multiple players and they are easily an aggro magnet. Fortunately, we are playing a very control-centric deck, with a build-your-own-board-wipe in the command zone, so we can reliably protect our walkers from aggression! For this plan to work, we need some moving parts. The two most important pieces are the planewalkers suite (AKA the payoff) and the lock pieces (AKA the enablers).

For planeswalkers, we got a lot of new toys to play with! In fact, aside from the Jaces and Dack, all these other planeswalkers are from last year alone!
Since we are playing blue, starting with the Jaces seems like an adequate choice. We currently have three of them: <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jace, Architect of Thought" href="#" target="_blank">Jace, Architect of Thought</a>, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jace, Unraveler of Secrets" href="#" target="_blank">Jace, Unraveler of Secrets</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jace, Vryn&#039;s Prodigy" href="#" target="_blank">Jace, Vryn&#039;s Prodigy</a>. While they don't seem very similar, the three help us with card advantage and can keep creatures at bay. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jaya Ballard" href="#" target="_blank">Jaya Ballard</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ral, Izzet Viceroy" href="#" target="_blank">Ral, Izzet Viceroy</a> are amazing when paired together, as their kit merge extremely well with each other (and to our deck).
There's also the need for a special mention for two planeswalkers in particular: <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tezzeret, Artifice Master" href="#" target="_blank">Tezzeret, Artifice Master</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Sarkhan, the Masterless" href="#" target="_blank">Sarkhan, the Masterless</a>. M19's Tezzeret is crazy powerful even in non-artifact decks, it's very easy to achieve the pseudo-Metalcraft on his middle ability. Plus, his ultimate can grab other planeswalkers. The new Sarkhan is a great new tech to Superfriends lists, as he helps protect our planeswalkers (with his -3 and his static ability) and he is a fast clock with his +1.

The second key element to our strategy, the lock pieces, are standard in <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tibor and Lumia" href="#" target="_blank">Tibor and Lumia</a>'s list. Let's do a quick rundown. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Basilisk Collar" href="#" target="_blank">Basilisk Collar</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gorgon&#039;s Head" href="#" target="_blank">Gorgon&#039;s Head</a> are cheap ways to give our commanders deathtouch, so every red trigger will guarantee to kill every nonflying creature. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Neko-Te" href="#" target="_blank">Neko-Te</a> can very easily perma-tap everyone's creatures. While its effect is more expensive and can be bypassed, not having to worry about our commanders pinging themselves with deathtouch, and instead just staying tapped, is quite helpful.
<a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Charisma" href="#" target="_blank">Charisma</a> is very tilting with our commanders because it lets us steal everyones' creatures when we give them flying, which has the added bonus of helping us defend our planeswalkers. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Dismiss Into Dream" href="#" target="_blank">Dismiss Into Dream</a>, while more on the expensive side and less explosive than the other alternatives, helps with sniping down enemy flying creatures, indestructible creatures, and it even hoses the odd Voltron deck at the table.
We are also rocking out some planeswalker-enabling cards like the two Proliferate-on-demand engines, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Inexorable Tide" href="#" target="_blank">Inexorable Tide</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Flux Channeler" href="#" target="_blank">Flux Channeler</a>, and the ever-powerful <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="The Chain Veil" href="#" target="_blank">The Chain Veil</a>, although we're using it in the "fair" way (it's not really fair, though).

For nonplaneswalker, standalone threats, we're a running the token duo <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Talrand, Sky Summoner" href="#" target="_blank">Talrand, Sky Summoner</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Murmuring Mystic" href="#" target="_blank">Murmuring Mystic</a> for the anti-flying tech that they provide. <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Niv-Mizzet, Parun" href="#" target="_blank">Niv-Mizzet, Parun</a> (a card that could very easily helm a very similar deck) helps us draw cards and can also act as a second copy of our commander if we can't cast them. Finally, there's <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Consecrated Sphinx" href="#" target="_blank">Consecrated Sphinx</a>, because... well, because it's <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Consecrated Sphinx" href="#" target="_blank">Consecrated Sphinx</a>.

As we can see, the list is in between a standard blue-red Spellslinger and an Izzet Superfriends list. Some concessions were made to please <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tibor and Lumia" href="#" target="_blank">Tibor and Lumia</a>. The first is the shortage of board wipes and straight-up creature removal; since a lot of our slots are dedicated to hose creatures, having more of these effects seems redundant and counterproductive. The second is the addition of some "funky" cards, like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Flame Jab" href="#" target="_blank">Flame Jab</a> and, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Cerebral Vortex" href="#" target="_blank">Cerebral Vortex</a>, which, while not particularly powerful in a vacuum, help increase our red spell total.
This list is designed to dig through our deck, dumping every nonessential card (like extra lands and irrelevant spells) while keeping creatures strategies down. Then, turn by turn, our advantage grows by activating our planeswalkers, who are free from the burden of having to defend themselves against enemy aggressors. Sometimes there'll be hard choices that might cost us the game, but this just goes to show that it's not an easy deck to pilot.

<h1>Methodology</h1>
Now that we've got our bases cover, let's get on how to play the list. We have varying degrees of acceptable opening hands, since we're playing lots of cantrips, but it's usually wiser to try to keep a hand with at least a planeswalker or a lock piece. This way, the chance of us bricking is considerably smaller. Hands with lots of mana and card draw can also be okay, since we'll need some mana to start things rolling, and drawing any planeswalker can provide the card advantage we need.

For the early game, we need to either set up for a planeswalker, or ramp/draw into this set up. It's very important to consider when starting deploying our planeswalkers, because it's very easy to become the target after dropping an early walker onto the table. This doesn't mean that it's wrong to play them without a proper protection - in fact, in the very early stages of the game, where no one has any creatures, that's technically when they are the most protected, and playing them can start an early snowball. This goes to show that it'll all depend on the game, but the usual question we should ask ourselves is, "Can I get away with playing this without protection?" If we can, we probably should be playing them, but otherwise, we should consider the overall importance of the card to the game.
In the mid game we should already have played or be close to playing a planeswalker. Even if we can't protect them, the longer the game goes, the harder it is to protect them. We should also try to space out our spells (mostly our red ones). It would feel bad when we have everything set up on the table and we can't activate our commander's triggered ability because we lack the color to do so. Again, this is where the raw card advantage provided by our planeswalkers is crucial. It might be the difference between having access to that random red spell or not, or even the ability to do much of anything on our turn at all.

By the late game we should have the mana necessary to both play and protect our board, and cards won't really be a problem with many of our possible draws having card draw stapled into them. Just watch out for enemy flying creatures, and opposing planeswalkers, too. This is truly our time to shine, and although it might take some time to close the game out, we can definitely get there.

<h2>Epic Results</h2>

Between managing a bunch of mid-costed planeswalkers and having to balance out the number of blue and red spell, this list felt really like an optimization puzzle. I tried my best, but I know that there were some concessions made along the way. Because of that, we've got to be extra careful when adding and removing cards, as we have to keep in mind that we need that balanced number of spells.

For potential improvements, the obvious thing that could change is the planeswalker suite. There're some notable exclusions, like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jace, the Mind Sculptor" href="#" target="_blank">Jace, the Mind Sculptor</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ugin, the Spirit Dragon" href="#" target="_blank">Ugin, the Spirit Dragon</a>, which were left out just because of their price tag. If you can add them, do so, but if not, don't worry about them. One could also potentially add effects like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Time Warp" href="#" target="_blank">Time Warp</a> to this list, to trigger our commanders and provide an extra activation on loyalty abilities. If you want to be mean - and I mean mean - you could also go the obnoxious route and add <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Obliterate" href="#" target="_blank">Obliterate</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jokulhaups" href="#" target="_blank">Jokulhaups</a>, which don't affect our walkers (though by that point we might consider changing commanders to something like <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jhoira of the Ghitu" href="#" target="_blank">Jhoira of the Ghitu</a>).

<h1>We Did a Thing!</h1>
First, a note from Don, the founder of EDHREC:

The extension allowed users to keep track of cards they are considering in a clipboard panel while browsing EDHREC. I loved this idea, so we hired Greg to come over and implement his extension as a permanent fixture of the website and make several improvements over his original idea. It's finally here, and it's something I'm personally really excited about!</blockquote>
And Don's not the only one! I'm chomping at the bit to take this new feature for a spin. Whether you're making a shopping list of cards you need for several decks, making comparisons between functionally similar cards to determine the best one to use, or brewing a Commander deck from scratch, this new clipboard function is a fantastic way to keep track of cards while using the site.
What better way to test it out than to make a new brew? <h2>Populating the Clipboard</h2>
I really like Izzet commanders, and can never decide on just one, so how about a deck that plays all of them? If I'm making UR legends, I can just go to the <a href="https://edhrec.com/themes">Themes page</a> and find a UR commander under the <a href="https://edhrec.com/themes/legends">Legends Theme</a>.
What's that? There aren't any UR legendary creatures representing the Legends theme? Time to put the clipboard to use. When you hover over a card, a white [+] appears in the upper-right corner of the card image. Clicking on this [+] adds the card to your clipboard. You'll see a black box like this one pop up in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

I'll add some of my favorite legendary creatures, and then we'll take a look at my clipboard.

Here we can see quite a bit. I've got 12 creatures added to my clipboard from the <a href="https://edhrec.com/commanders/ur">Izzet Commanders</a> page. Clicking on each name brings up the card image on the right, the last card I clicked on being [[Nin, the Pain Artist]]. To remove a card from the clipboard, click on the red X for the desired line. To wipe the clipboard entirely in one fell swoop, use the 'Clear' button in the lower right corner. To link to a card's page from the clipboard, click the link icon in a given line (the icon to the left of the X).
We'll discuss the rest of the clipboard's functionality when I'm closer to having a completed deck. For now, it looks like the legendary creatures I added all have something in common: they're drawing cards! Time to hit up the <a href="https://edhrec.com/themes/wheels">Theme page for Wheel decks</a>, I guess, and add a bunch of those cards to my clipboard too!

Notice how, as I'm adding cards to this list, it's added more sections for the different card types (Instants, Sorceries, etc). Additionally, the values listed on the Card Kingdom and TCG Player buttons have gone up. These buttons can be used to shop for the deck on the respective sites! Looking for a budget-friendly boardwipe? There! I've got the deck all set! (It may only say 83 cards in my clipboard, but don't forget that the basic lands each only count for one card.) I think I'm finally ready to make a decision on my commander for this UR legendary card draw machine. It's going to have to be <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain" href="#" target="_blank">Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain</a>.

I can flag her as my commander by clicking the yellow crown next to her name. This will separate out the commander into its own special section at the top of the clipboard, as seen above.
Now that I'm ready to export my deck, I'll select the 'Copy' button in the bottom right corner to copy the list. It's now paste-able into Notepad or the deck builder website of your choice (perhaps <a href="https://archidekt.com/">Archidekt</a>, given the <a href="https://articles.edhrec.com/archidekt-and-edhrec-announce-partnership/">article</a> earlier this week)!

Alright, now that we've successfully used the new clipboard function on EDHREC, how about we talk a little about this deck? The point of this deck is to draw cards for extra benefits. We've got <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Chasm Skulker" href="#" target="_blank">Chasm Skulker</a> and <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Psychosis Crawler" href="#" target="_blank">Psychosis Crawler</a> along with all their draw-trigger friends. A wide assortment of Niv-Mizzets both fuels the draw and slings some damage, and Jhoira will draw us cards every time we play one of these awesome Izzet powerhouses. There're oodles of ways to pull off a win: combat, burn, life loss, decking out our opposition, <a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Laboratory Maniac" href="#" target="_blank">Laboratory Maniac</a>... this should just be some fun, raw power at the table. Here you go!
