It follows, then, that one of the most popular themes to build around in Commander is one that allows you to produce a lot of extra mana without putting in much effort.</p>

In fact, there are more than 300 cards in the game that say the word "Treasure" in their rules text! Cards that make Treasure are also among the most popular cards in the format, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Big Score" href="#" target="_blank">Big Score</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Black Market Connections" href="#" target="_blank">Black Market Connections</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, whether we're building around the tokens or not.</p>

<p>Treasures are tokens that grant a one-time resource boost by letting us tap and sacrifice them to produce any color of mana. They are inherently powerful game pieces, because they let us gain a mana advantage — we can cast a card that costs five mana on turn four if we made a Treasure on a previous turn, for example.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Big Score" href="#" target="_blank">Big Score</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> gets us <em>two </em>mana ahead, letting us cast one of the game's many powerful seven-drops, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Etali, Primal Conqueror" href="#" target="_blank">Etali, Primal Conqueror</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, way earlier than normal.</p>
<p>Treasures made their debut in <em>Ixalan</em>, often appearing as an additional effect on common spell effects that cost one or two more mana as a result: <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Depths of Desire" href="#" target="_blank">Depths of Desire</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pirate&#039;s Prize" href="#" target="_blank">Pirate&#039;s Prize</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Contract Killing" href="#" target="_blank">Contract Killing</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are examples.</p>

<p>And, far from just appearing as a bonus on a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Disperse" href="#" target="_blank">Disperse</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> or a <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Divination" href="#" target="_blank">Divination</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, Treasure is now a well-supported deck archetype in its own right, featuring many enablers like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Black Market Connections" href="#" target="_blank">Black Market Connections</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> (cards or abilities that produce Treasures or enhance them in some way) and payoffs like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Magda, Brazen Outlaw" href="#" target="_blank">Magda, Brazen Outlaw</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Grim Hireling" href="#" target="_blank">Grim Hireling</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> (effects that reward you for producing and/or making mana with them).</p>

<p>A Treasure deck in Commander is one that builds around cards that produce and sacrifice Treasures, and even seeks to win using Treasures somehow.</p>

<p>Before we get into how to draw synergies out of and make the most of the various Treasure enablers and payoffs, here's the fundamental reason why Treasures are so strong: You can just cast powerful, expensive spells with them, and you can do so earlier in the game than you would normally be able to.</p>
<p>You don't really need to do anything more than play cards that produce Treasures alongside a bunch of haymakers like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Apex Devastator" href="#" target="_blank">Apex Devastator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Etali, Primal Conqueror" href="#" target="_blank">Etali, Primal Conqueror</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> to be using the token effectively.</p>

<p>Ramping with Treasure tokens is, in fact, one of the best ways to utilize them in the format, because it's so easy to do, and because we have access to some mouth-wateringly potent cards. I already mentioned <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Big Score" href="#" target="_blank">Big Score</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, but <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Unexpected Windfall" href="#" target="_blank">Unexpected Windfall</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Seize the Spoils" href="#" target="_blank">Seize the Spoils</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> also exist to help smooth out our draw and get us ahead on mana.</p>
<p>We can also take advantage of the fact that some of the best creatures to ramp out also work well with Treasures, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Old Gnawbone" href="#" target="_blank">Old Gnawbone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Goldvein Hydra" href="#" target="_blank">Goldvein Hydra</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>. Cards like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Xorn" href="#" target="_blank">Xorn</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Bootleggers&#039; Stash" href="#" target="_blank">Bootleggers&#039; Stash</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Doubling Season" href="#" target="_blank">Doubling Season</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> help us make <em>a lot </em>of Treasure.</p>
<p>So does <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Smothering Tithe" href="#" target="_blank">Smothering Tithe</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, though we absolutely don't need to be playing a streamlined, synergistic deck to get absurd amounts of value.</p>

<p>But Treasure tokens don't just produce mana, even if that's what's written in their rules text! They are also artifacts that can be sacrificed, unlocking a ton of synergies to play around with.</p>

But we can just as easily build our deck around Treasure producers that work very well with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mayhem Devil" href="#" target="_blank">Mayhem Devil</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mirkwood Bats" href="#" target="_blank">Mirkwood Bats</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Disciple of the Vault" href="#" target="_blank">Disciple of the Vault</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Marionette Master" href="#" target="_blank">Marionette Master</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, especially since these tokens don't need a "sacrifice outlet," or a card like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Altar of Dementia" href="#" target="_blank">Altar of Dementia</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> or <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Viscera Seer" href="#" target="_blank">Viscera Seer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>Treasures sac themselves, and we can even use them to cast other payoffs!</p>
<p>We probably still need to play creatures in our Treasure deck, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Pitiless Plunderer" href="#" target="_blank">Pitiless Plunderer</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is the perfect card to help bridge creature and artifact sacrifice synergies.</p>
<p>We even get access to cards that reward us for creating Treasures, not just getting them into the graveyard. Creatures like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ingenious Artillerist" href="#" target="_blank">Ingenious Artillerist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Reckless Fireweaver" href="#" target="_blank">Reckless Fireweaver</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hedron Detonator" href="#" target="_blank">Hedron Detonator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> ensure that these tokens are beating opponents senseless, whether they're coming or going.</p>

<p>Treasures are also incredibly easy to build advantages other than mana supremacy with. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Academy Manufactor" href="#" target="_blank">Academy Manufactor</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Professional Face-Breaker" href="#" target="_blank">Professional Face-Breaker</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Grim Hireling" href="#" target="_blank">Grim Hireling</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> all make producing Treasures like drawing extra cards, whether that comes in the form of extra removal effects, producing Clue tokens, or letting us cast spells from the top of our library.</p>

<p>Another fantastic thing about Treasures is that we can mix and match these payoffs in one deck. For example, a sacrifice build can still easily run <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Goldvein Hydra" href="#" target="_blank">Goldvein Hydra</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> or <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ancient Copper Dragon" href="#" target="_blank">Ancient Copper Dragon</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> without veering too far off plan, while any Treasure deck will usually want <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Professional Face-Breaker" href="#" target="_blank">Professional Face-Breaker</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and other value engines.</p>
<p>The trick is cutting our list down to the best 100 for the plan we're building around.</p>

Korvold himself is one of the best Treasure payoffs out there; don't expect him to survive many turns!</p>

<p>These are all exciting directions you can explore, but for our first foray into Treasure, I want to keep things simple: two colors, no infinite combos, and a game plan that's easy to execute.</p>
<p>And, while I want to shout out <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Prosper, Tome-Bound" href="#" target="_blank">Prosper, Tome-Bound</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, who can definitely tick all these boxes, today we'll be building a more beginner-friendly, ramp-oriented deck with <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Roxanne, Starfall Savant" href="#" target="_blank">Roxanne, Starfall Savant</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> at the helm.</p>

<p>I love Roxanne because she works really well with Treasures without needing them to do be effective on her own. In fact, she's happy to enter the battlefield, net you more mana, and provide a removal effect. And if you use her to power out an additional threat on the same turn, then that’s a great bonus.</p>


<p>Our <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Roxanne, Starfall Savant" href="#" target="_blank">Roxanne, Starfall Savant</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> deck will have two paths to victory, both heavily utilizing Treasure tokens.</p>
<p>First, we'll aim to ramp out giant monsters that threaten to take over the game if left unchecked. Gruul (<span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-r" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-g" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>) has no shortage of expensive creatures to choose from; the key is to prioritize the ones that work well with Treasure.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Goldspan Dragon" href="#" target="_blank">Goldspan Dragon</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Old Gnawbone" href="#" target="_blank">Old Gnawbone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ancient Copper Dragon" href="#" target="_blank">Ancient Copper Dragon</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> all pack a punch while putting more tokens into play. <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hellkite Igniter" href="#" target="_blank">Hellkite Igniter</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hellkite Tyrant" href="#" target="_blank">Hellkite Tyrant</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, meanwhile, both get better when you have a lot of Treasure in play.</p>

<p>We want to run more beefy threats, so <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Displaced Dinosaurs" href="#" target="_blank">Displaced Dinosaurs</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> makes the cut as another creature with a payoff for artifact token production.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Apex Devastator" href="#" target="_blank">Apex Devastator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is just huge and generates gigantic value, so it gets a seat at the table, even if it doesn't work particularly well with Treasure. The same can be said about two incarnations of the same Dinosaur, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Etali, Primal Conqueror" href="#" target="_blank">Etali, Primal Conqueror</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Etali, Primal Storm" href="#" target="_blank">Etali, Primal Storm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>Playing big creatures without haste in Commander is an easy recipe for failure, so we're also packing <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Rhythm of the Wild" href="#" target="_blank">Rhythm of the Wild</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Arena of Glory" href="#" target="_blank">Arena of Glory</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>If going tall with a big threat doesn't work, then our other plan tries to go wide. We're playing <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Reckless Fireweaver" href="#" target="_blank">Reckless Fireweaver</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and other cards that deal damage when artifacts enter the battlefield, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ingenious Artillerist" href="#" target="_blank">Ingenious Artillerist</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hedron Detonator" href="#" target="_blank">Hedron Detonator</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Weftstalker Ardent" href="#" target="_blank">Weftstalker Ardent</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p>Unfortunately, these cards typically only deal one damage for each Treasure that enters, so they need a little help. That's why we're playing <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="City on Fire" href="#" target="_blank">City on Fire</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Panharmonicon" href="#" target="_blank">Panharmonicon</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, to triple and double the damage they deal, respectively.</p>

<p>Now, how do we plan on generating all the Treasure tokens we need to power out seven-drops and trigger these damage-dealers enough to win the game? By packing our deck with cards that either produce Treasure as a bonus effect and cards that produce multiple Treasure at an efficient rate.</p>

<p>This deck can produce a ton of mana, so we want to make sure that we have powerful ways to spend it all. That's why we're running <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Svella, Ice Shaper" href="#" target="_blank">Svella, Ice Shaper</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, who seems inefficient at face value but who can really help keep the cards flowing once we've assembled a Treasurer-producing engine like Bootleggers' Stash.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Crackle with Power" href="#" target="_blank">Crackle with Power</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Comet Storm" href="#" target="_blank">Comet Storm</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> are other components of our insurance plan, turning mana into victory.</p>

<p>Speaking of copies, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Helm of the Host" href="#" target="_blank">Helm of the Host</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is an impressive threat that turns an <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Old Gnawbone" href="#" target="_blank">Old Gnawbone</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> into something the whole table needs to worry about immediately. Imagine equipping Helm to <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Ancient Copper Dragon" href="#" target="_blank">Ancient Copper Dragon</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> while we have <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Reckless Fireweaver" href="#" target="_blank">Reckless Fireweaver</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> in play!</p>

<p>Given that we're planning to attack with big threats <em>and </em>have a bunch of extra mana lying around, I want to make room for spells that protect our permanents, like <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Heroic Intervention" href="#" target="_blank">Heroic Intervention</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Collective Resistance" href="#" target="_blank">Collective Resistance</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Tamiyo&#039;s Safekeeping" href="#" target="_blank">Tamiyo&#039;s Safekeeping</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Gold Rush" href="#" target="_blank">Gold Rush</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a pretty mediocre protection spell, but it trades that for acting as a surprise win condition when we have enough Treasure.</p>

<p>Building a Treasure deck that ramps or sacrifices is a great way to lean into the tokens themselves and what they do. But, since Treasures are commonplace in <em>Magic </em>sets, we can build decks where Treasure is closer to a sub-theme than a plan A.</p>
<p><span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Admiral Brass, Unsinkable" href="#" target="_blank">Admiral Brass, Unsinkable</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> is a popular Treasure Commander that doesn't even mention the token in her rules text. She lets us play a Pirate typal deck that takes advantage of the fact that this creature type loves interacting with Treasures.</p>
<p>And, since we're playing <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-u" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span> and <span class="mana-container-container"><span class="mana-container"><i class="ms ms-cost ms-b" style="margin-left: inherit !important;"></i></span></span>, we can run all of <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Hellkite Tyrant" href="#" target="_blank">Hellkite Tyrant</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Mechanized Production" href="#" target="_blank">Mechanized Production</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span>, and <span class="edhrecp__link"><a class="edhrecp__link-a" content="Revel in Riches" href="#" target="_blank">Revel in Riches</a><span class="edhrecp__link-image"></span></span> for the full alternate win condition package.</p>
