Edge of Eternities is here and has already taken Commander by storm. This set is filled with so many powerful new rares and mythics that it might be easy to miss some of the great cards hidden in its bulk. I know when you're opening packs, skipping right to the last few singles gets the adrenaline rushing, but I'm here to shine a spotlight on the cards that often get skipped over on that journey.
My name is Tyler 'Savesya' Bucks, and I've returned with another addition of Bulk Up, where I show off amazing commons and uncommons from Magic's latest sets. This time around I'm going to have to leave out my usual deck suggestion for each card since there're just too many spells to get to this week, so let's dive into these new spells from Edge of Eternities before they slip into the void known as your bulk piles!
Desculpting Blast
Kicking off our list today, we have a removal spell that I'm incredibly excited to include in a lot of my decks. Desculpting BlastDesculpting Blast is an instant-speed bounce spell for any nonland permanent on the board, but it also has a little bit of a twist: if it targets an attacking creature, you make a 1/1 flying token, which plenty of decks can take advantage of! A mini-AetherizeAetherize can make for some fun blow out moments in a game.
Pull Through the Weft
Up next, we have an absolute powerhouse in graveyard decks. For five mana, Pull Through the WeftPull Through the Weft returns two nonland permanents from your bin to your hand, then puts two lands from your 'yard onto the battlefield tapped. Just when your opponents thought they set you back a few steps, you ramp and get some big threats right back into your hand. If your graveyard is big enough, this card could feel like a tutor in some cases, getting you back exactly what you need in that moment.
Susurian Voidborn
Now, as you read this next inclusion, you might ask yourself the question “don’t we have plenty of cards that are just like this?” However, Susurian VoidbornSusurian Voidborn comes with an extra wrinkle because of that warp cost. Sure, this Vampire is worth that full three-mana price tag, but since you can warp it for a single mana, you could bring this out just in time to cast a big board wipe. Also, don't overlook that this works with artifacts as well, making all your TreasureTreasure tokens even better than before.
Starfield Shepherd
Let's highlight another creature with a warp cost: Starfield ShepherdStarfield Shepherd. Cards like this are always great to have around since they can offer you so many different options throughout the game. Not only does it find you a land or a creature with mana value 1 or less, but it can do it twice. Warping it early for only two mana can assist you when you’re in the set-up phases of the game; then, when you cast it later on, you'll get that value all over again on top of a great flying creature to assist you in the late game.
Scour for Scrap
Keeping with tutors, for four mana Scour for ScrapScour for Scrap finds you any artifact in your deck and/or returns an artifact from your graveyard to your hand. Both of these abilities are strong, but when you staple them together, it’s even crazier. In most artifact lists, this basically draws you the best card in your deck, and the strongest threat your opponents have answered that game, at instant speed, no less!
Meltstrider Eulogist
Our next creature is only really suited for +1/+1 counter decks, but it's a slam dunk for those lists. Meltstrider EulogistMeltstrider Eulogist draws you a card whenever one of those buffed up creatures of yours dies, which is a powerful ability for only three mana. Plenty of decks out there add counters to their whole board or have creatures that naturally enter with them, so even if your opponent cuts down your team, you’ll continue to draw into more recruits for your ranks.
Survey Mechan
This next card is a headscratcher, so bear with me. Survey MechanSurvey Mechan is a 1/3 flyer with hexproof, which is all fine and good, but its final ability is why it's here today. For ten mana you basically get to cast Lightning HelixLightning Helix and Ancestral RecallAncestral Recall.
I know, that sounds like too high of a cost. However, the ability costs less to activate for each differently named land you control, which means in decks with three or more colors that effect could be easily cut in half.

Double-Spell Enhancer Cards
There’s plenty of decks these days that naturally double spell during their games. As new cards continue to get better and cheaper to cast, it’s easier to chain spells together in a single turn. So, while these next three cards would of course be great in a deck built around The Council of FourThe Council of Four, they can also fit in the 99 of a lot of other commanders out there. While we look them over, think about your own decks and see if any of these spark inspiration for you.
Station Monitor
Our first creature that pays you off for casting two spells a turn is Station MonitorStation Monitor. A cheap Azorius () Lizard that makes you a flying Drone that can only block other flyers when you double spell. This is a great rate for this effect, since you could cast this and another card immediately after to get a token right away. The fact that it only costs two mana makes this great early on since you can build up a board of flyers for simply moving forward with your gameplan.
Sunstar Lightsmith
Next up we have a creature that fits perfectly into decks centered around counters: Sunstar LightsmithSunstar Lightsmith. When you cast your second spell, it grows with a +1/+1 counter and you draw a card. Not only does this assist with filling your hand, but it also feeds into any other synergies your deck might be built around. Long gone are the days of white not having card advantage, and this is just more proof of that.
Uthros Psionicist
From card advantage to mana advantage, Uthros PsionicistUthros Psionicist is here to make your second spell a lot cheaper. If you have a blue deck that tends to have a lower curve or is filled with cantrips, this Jellyfish can really come in handy for you. Turning an OptOpt into a mana reduction for a bigger spell to follow it up with is already amazing, but when paired with cheap colorless cards, like an Arcane SignetArcane Signet for example, you're getting into free spell territory.
Lander Token Makers
Closing out this edition of Bulk Up, we’re going to take a quick look at each common and uncommon way to make LanderLander tokens that I think might be close enough to playable. Now, a lot of these aren’t the most efficient ways to ramp in Commander, but they do offer some interesting options for nongreen decks that prefer getting out more lands over just using mana rocks. Let’s take a look at each of these at light speed before wrapping up for the day!
Sunstar Expansionist
Up first is a two-mana white creature that makes you a LanderLander token when it enters if an opponent has more lands than you. Sunstar ExpansionistSunstar Expansionist is pretty solid, entering early enough to get your ramp train rolling, while also getting a power boost from that Landfall trigger.
Scrounge for Eternity
Recursion and a LanderLander token are just a few of the upsides that Scrounge for EternityScrounge for Eternity brings our way. I think this card is incredible, especially if your deck already has sacrifice synergies. Plus, that midgame ramp is just icing on the aristocratic cake.
Terrapact Intimidator
This next card, Terrapact IntimidatorTerrapact Intimidator, may require some politics to be playable. Here’s my advice: when you cast this on turn two, give an opponent a deal that they let you make two LanderLander tokens, and you’ll attack any player they please with this Kavu for the rest of the game. Try that out and let me know how it goes!
Divert Disaster
Speaking of politics, Divert DisasterDivert Disaster might put you on a player's list of enemies. If you wait until someone is casting a spell with at least two mana up, you can turn this would-be counter into a little tax on them and a LanderLander token for you. Let’s hope you can dodge their aggression after that play so disaster doesn’t come your way…
Beamsaw Prospector
Black decks love to sacrifice their creatures for value, so why not get some possible ramp out of the deal with Beamsaw ProspectorBeamsaw Prospector? Two mana for an expendable body is a reasonable price and could get you that token very early in the game.
Lithobraking
While this next card won’t be for every deck, an artifact-focused commander might love LithobrakingLithobraking. Clearing the board of smaller creatures while making you that LanderLander at instant speed isn’t too bad. Just make sure you have another trinket laying around to sacrifice, so you don’t lose out on the ramp this card brings.
Dauntless Scrapbot
Everyone has heard this advice by now, but running graveyard hate is something more people should do. It just isn’t the most fun effect to add to a deck. Well, Dauntless ScrapbotDauntless Scrapbot could push more of us to add this type of removal to our 99s, since it also brings that LanderLander token along with it.
Sami's Curiosity
Now, I didn’t add any other green cards to this section, since it’s already the color of land ramp. However, I did want to throw Sami's CuriositySami's Curiosity on the list since it only costs you one mana, gains you two life, and makes you a LanderLander.
A lot of players have already made the comparison between these new tokens and the card Wayfarer's BaubleWayfarer's Bauble. So, for the handful of green decks that still run that artifact in their lists, you now have another option to include that also gains you some life in the process.
