The Top Five Green Cards in cEDH

Just like in lower-bracket Commander, green is the color of big mana and even bigger creatures in cEDH. The only difference is, in cEDH, green doesn't just draw into those creatures - it uses some of the best tutors in the game to find them quickly and consistently.

In this article, we'll look at the five best green cards in cEDH. Ready? Let's take a look.

#5 - Birds of ParadiseBirds of Paradise

Birds of Paradise

Starting off our list is the oldest, and most color-defining, card on our list: Birds of Paradise.

Since Alpha, this 0/1 Bird for has been the chief early-game color fixing accelerant, and nothing comes close. Now, cEDH is a singleton format, so decks will fill themselves with all sorts of slightly-worse effects in the hopes of reaching a critical mass of multicolored dorks (Ignoble and Noble HierarchNoble Hierarch, for example), but really all this does is prove the central point: Birds of Paradise is a stellar card.

Don't be afraid of investing , even if it can die to Orcish BowmastersOrcish Bowmasters.

#4 - Chord of CallingChord of Calling

Chord of Calling

Next up is the first of many tutors on our list: Chord of Calling.

For , this instant with convoke allows you to search your library for a creature card with mana value X or less, put it onto the battlefield, then shuffle.

What really makes Chord of Calling such a standout card is its combination of potency and affordability. Searching for (theoretically) any creature, at any time, only to put it straight into play is much better than tutoring for it and then casting it later on, allowing you to jump past one more spell for the storm count.

Additionally, while its high mana value may seem prohibitive, convoke does an excellent job of getting past that - allowing even your still summoning-sick creatures to help pitch in to cast the spell.

#3 - Survival of the FittestSurvival of the Fittest

Survival of the Fittest

Midway up the list is one of the very few repeatable tutors out there, that also doubles as an easy way to discard key cards: Survival of the Fittest.

For , Survival of the Fittest is an enchantment that allows you to pay and discard a creature card. In exchange, you can search your library for a creature card, put that card into your hand, then shuffle.

Competitive Commander really struggles when it comes to interacting with noncreature permanents. Couple that with the instant-speed availability of Survival of the Fittest's activated ability, and it all combines into a card that can rapidly turn all the creature cards in your hand into the perfect combo assembly necessary to close out the game.

#2 - Crop RotationCrop Rotation

Crop Rotation

In second place is one of the defining tutors for green - a card that not even black and its universal tutors can quite live up to: Crop Rotation.

For , Crop Rotation is an instant that - at the cost of sacrificing a land - allows you to search your library for any land card and put it into play.

Whether you need fixing (Mana ConfluenceMana Confluence), removal (Talon Gates of MadaraTalon Gates of Madara), a flash enabler (Emergence ZoneEmergence Zone), or even just more mana (Gaea's CradleGaea's Cradle), Crop Rotation has got you covered.

Think of it this way: Crop Rotation doesn't just tutor - it also gives Magic's most broken lands flash.

#1 - Seedborn MuseSeedborn Muse

Seedborn Muse

Wrapping up our list is one of the biggest bombs a green deck can ever hope to resolve: Seedborn Muse.

For , Seedborn Muse is a 2/4 Spirit creature that allows you to play nearly four times as much Magic as any other player at the table, thanks to its ability which lets you untap all permanents you control during each other player's untap step.

Competitive Commander has enough draw spells in it that a savvy player will rarely run dry on cards in hand. Sure, you'll probably have to turn to blue (or colorless, a-la The One RingThe One Ring) to find the best-in-class spells for that, but that's hardly an issue in a format with decks like Kinnan, Bonder ProdigyKinnan, Bonder Prodigy running around.

Mana, on the other hand, is a much harder commodity to really outpace your opponents on... unless you simply have an extra untap step during each player's turn!

Wrap Up

There we have it: the best cards for any and every green cEDH deck out there. Whether you need lands or creatures, mana or...more mana, green has you covered.
