Wombo Combo returns again, bringing you Commander's best combo cards using EDHREC and Commander Spellbook data! This week, we're looking at the mystical world of Faeries.
Faeries are one of Magic's oldest creature types, having been introduced in Legends back in 1994. Faeries are generally small human-like creatures with magical powers and a propensity to cause mischief. Faeries also contain a variety of effects, from token generation to control-style effects to bouncing permanents.
Let's have a faerie good time taking a look at the best Faerie combo cards!
#10: Nurturing Pixie
Deck Inclusions: 4,469 decks (0.11%)
Bouncing creatures are common in Magic combos, and Nurturing PixieNurturing Pixie is the resident option for Faeries. These creatures let you cast them and/or other permanents repeatedly by returning them to your hand. This'll enable infinite casting triggers, which is important for Teshar, Ancestor's ApostleTeshar, Ancestor's Apostle. It also gives enter the battlefield (ETB) triggers, which suits Intruder AlarmIntruder Alarm very well.
#9: Hushbringer
Deck Inclusions: 38,518 decks (0.95%)
While we just talked about ETB triggers, if you hate them, then HushbringerHushbringer is the perfect answer. Not only is this effect excellent for control decks and annoying opponents, it also can be beneficial if you design your deck around it.
Cards with notable downsides, including Phage the UntouchablePhage the Untouchable and Wormfang MantaWormfang Manta, become much easier to use. If you're going a control route, pairing Hushbringer with Intruder AlarmIntruder Alarm will prevent creatures from untapping.
#8: Puppeteer Clique / Glen Elendra Archmage
Deck Inclusions: 88,298 (Glen Elendra); 56,523 (Puppeteer)
Persist creatures are a favorite in recursion decks, and both Glen Elendra ArchmageGlen Elendra Archmage and Puppeteer CliquePuppeteer Clique fall into this category with additional benefits. Glen Elendra Archmage has an activated ability which can counter noncreature spells, making it a great inclusion in control decks. Puppeteer Clique allows you to steal an opponent's creature from their graveyard, giving you additional triggers and combat damage.
Persist creatures are perfectly suited for Mikaeus, the UnhallowedMikaeus, the Unhallowed decks, alternating between persist and undying to return the creatures. Other notable options include SolemnitySolemnity or Cathars' CrusadeCathars' Crusade.

#7: Glamermite
Deck Inclusions: 4,809 decks (0.39%)
GlamermiteGlamermite has an ability that taps or untaps a creature when it enters. The simplest combos with these effects involve tapping Kiki-Jiki, Mirror BreakerKiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to create a token copy of it, and then untap Kiki-Jiki with the trigger. Splinter TwinSplinter Twin is another option if it's attached to the creature.
Glamermite can also be blinked by Displacer KittenDisplacer Kitten to untap creatures, which is commonly used with Emry, Lurker of the LochEmry, Lurker of the Loch.
#6: Faerie Mastermind
Deck Inclusions: 293,274 decks (6.82%)
Faerie MastermindFaerie Mastermind is strong for card advantage, with two ways to draw cards. The first is a triggered ability, giving you cards if opponents draw multiple cards in a turn. The second is an activated ability that allows you to pay four mana to cause each player to draw a card. This card draw can trigger the triggered ability, and also Smothering TitheSmothering Tithe, Fate UnravelerFate Unraveler or other punishment cards.
Assuming opponents can't pay for Smothering Tithe's trigger, you can easily make more Treasures with Parallel LivesParallel Lives or MirrormadeMirrormade copying Smothering Tithe, and use the Treasures to pay for the next activation.
#5: Knacksaw Clique
Deck Inclusions: 2,901 decks (0.07%)
The infamous untap mechanic (officially recognized as {Q}) returns again on Knacksaw CliqueKnacksaw Clique, which untaps itself to exile a card from an opponent's library with the ability to play that card until end of turn. The untapping mechanic is highly useful for combos, and adding a very strong result on top is highly beneficial.
Knacksaw Clique's untap effect is strong enough that it can end the game without additional benefits needed, meaning we can break even each loop and still win the game. Using Tazri, Stalwart SurvivorTazri, Stalwart Survivor to tap Knacksaw Clique for , and then untap it after a reduction from Training GroundsTraining Grounds is a perfect option.
#4: Scryb Ranger
Deck Inclusions: 26,375 decks (0.65%)
Scryb RangerScryb Ranger is largely included in Ashaya, Soul of the WildAshaya, Soul of the Wild decks as another form of bouncing creatures. With Ashaya making all your nontoken creatures Forest lands, a creature can be returned to untap another creature once per turn.
Most notably, Scryb Ranger can return itself to do this, allowing you to cast it again and use the ability another time. All you'll need to add is a large mana dork, such as Selvala, Heart of the WildsSelvala, Heart of the Wilds or Mona Lisa, Science GeekMona Lisa, Science Geek and you'll be set.
#3: Animating Faerie
Deck Inclusions: 2,218 decks (0.05%)
While the creature side is a Faerie, we actually care more about the Adventure side, which animates an artifact. Turning artifacts into creatures is surprisingly useful for getting the most out of artifacts, enabling synergies with Voltaic ConstructVoltaic Construct and Marvin, Murderous MimicMarvin, Murderous Mimic.
Bring to Life specifically also adds +1/+1 counters, which Vigean GraftmageVigean Graftmage loves to see. Making an artifact a creature also lets it be affected by Training GroundsTraining Grounds or Lae'zel, Vlaakith's ChampionLae'zel, Vlaakith's Champion.
#2: Alela, Artful Provocateur
Deck Inclusions: 15,585 as commander (#98); 12,300 as card (1.14%)
Alela, Artful ProvocateurAlela, Artful Provocateur is easily one of the most notable Faeries, being a top 100 commander and a great choice to helm an artifact or enchantress deck. Alela generates tokens as you cast artifact and enchantment spells, providing an additional payoff for some infinite storm combos.
The tokens can also be turned into mana, sacrificing them to Ashnod's AltarAshnod's Altar, which can cast spells like Sensei's Divining TopSensei's Divining Top. When the token enters, it can also trigger Cloudstone CurioCloudstone Curio allowing you to continuously bounce enchantment creatures and cast them again.
Ancestral StatueAncestral Statue is another great option to trigger Alela repeatedly.
#1: Cloud of Faeries
Deck Inclusions: 98,023 decks (2.28%)
Fittingly, we finish our list with a Cloud of FaeriesCloud of Faeries, a simple card that untaps two lands as it enters. This effect makes Cloud of Faeries a "mana-neutral" creature, meaning that it'll pay for itself by untapping the lands used to pay for it. Being mana-neutral makes it ideal for Hullbreaker HorrorHullbreaker Horror combos, as it'll pay for itself without needing additional cards.
The added mana can also be poured into Deadeye NavigatorDeadeye Navigator to blink Cloud of Faeries infinitely. Ghostly FlickerGhostly Flicker can also blink it, alongside an ArchaeomancerArchaeomancer-style card for an easy combo providing you control a larger mana producing land, such as Lotus FieldLotus Field.
Honorable Mentions
If you're looking for more mischievous Faeries, have a few more options:
1. Ivy, Gleeful SpellthiefIvy, Gleeful Spellthief: allows you additional copies of targeted spells, including SnapSnap or Auras including TreacheryTreachery.
2. QuicklingQuickling: another option for bouncing effects, with the added ability to sacrifice itself instead.
