Welcome back to Wombo Combo, the article series where Commander's best combo cards are featured and ranked using data from EDHREC and Commander Spellbook. With Christmas right around the corner, this edition looks at the creature type that is most associated with Christmas: Elves!

Rishkar, Peema Renegade
Evolution Sage
Farhaven Elf

Christmas elves may deal with presents and making kids happy, but Magic Elves mainly deal with tokens, counters, and mana. Elves are one of Magic's most popular and prolific creature types, with over 600 unique Elves existing at the time of writing this article.

Let's have a holly jolly good time and bask in the glory of Commander's best Elf combo cards!

#10: Emmara, Soul of the Accord

Emmara, Soul of the Accord

Number of Combos: 90

Deck Inclusions: 4,804 as commander (#460); 14,042 as card (0.9%)

Emmara, Soul of the AccordEmmara, Soul of the Accord creates a 1/1 Soldier creature token whenever its tapped. This creates a nice bonus when attacking, but also creates easy infinite combos.

First, you need a way to tap Emmara, which can include Glare of SubdualGlare of Subdual, Paradise MantleParadise Mantle, or Viridian LongbowViridian Longbow. Then, once the Soldier enters, we can use that to untap Emmara, either via Intruder AlarmIntruder Alarm or sacrificing the token to get a Thornbite StaffThornbite Staff trigger.

You can either get benefits from a sacrifice outlet, or tap the tokens using EarthcraftEarthcraft or another card for added results.

#9: Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second

Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second

Number of Combos: 114

Deck Inclusions: 5,598 as commander (#387); 26,830 as card (3.11%)

Jinnie Fay, Jetmir's SecondJinnie Fay, Jetmir's Second allows you to take any token you'd make and instead create either a 2/2 Cat with haste or a 3/1 Dog with vigilance. While we love Dogs, the Cat token is more useful for combos simply because it has haste.

Many token combos require a haste enabler (like AngerAnger) to give the creature tokens haste, but Jinnie can simply change the token as it's created to have haste. This allows it to tap for mana with Cryptolith RiteCryptolith Rite right away, or get around Requiem AngelRequiem Angel's trigger restriction with ease.

#8: Yenna, Redtooth Regent

Yenna, Redtooth Regent

Number of Combos: 127

Deck Inclusions: 3,722 as commander (#585); 45,622 as card (2.92%)

Yenna, Redtooth RegentYenna, Redtooth Regent has a more unique effect that creates token copies of enchantments you control, and works especially well for copying Auras.

Yenna can copy Auras like Instill EnergyInstill Energy and Second WindSecond Wind to repeatedly untap larger mana-producing creatures - we'll discuss options for that later. Yenna can also make tokens of Sagas, like Three Blind MiceThree Blind Mice, to continually make tokens for your pleasure.

#7: Evolution Witness

Evolution Witness

Number of Combos: 127

Deck Inclusions: 99.162 decks (3.39%)

Evolution WitnessEvolution Witness returns cards from your graveyard to your hand as +1/+1 counters are placed on it. Its effect as an infinitely triggerable RegrowthRegrowth effect works beautifully for combos with creatures like Walking BallistaWalking Ballista.

Cathars' CrusadeCathars' Crusade and Metastatic EvangelMetastatic Evangel can easily place a counter on Evolution Witness to trigger it as Ballista enters and dies due to having zero toughness. Other options can include Iron ApprenticeIron Apprentice or Reyhan, Last of the AbzanReyhan, Last of the Abzan to place counters, along with a mana sacrifice outlet to get the mana to recast a creature.

#6: Devoted Druid

Devoted Druid

Number of Combos: 148

Deck Inclusions: 94.756 decks (2.79%)

Devoted DruidDevoted Druid is a unique card from a small subset that allows you to place a -1/-1 counter on a creature to untap it. Coupled with it tapping for , Devoted Druid is a major combo engine if you can counteract the -1/-1 counters.

This can be done in several ways - one of which is converting Devoted Druid into a noncreature using Myrkul, Lord of BonesMyrkul, Lord of Bones or Swift ReconfigurationSwift Reconfiguration. The counters can also be counteracted by stat buffs from Tyvar, the PummelerTyvar, the Pummeler or Luxior, Giada's GiftLuxior, Giada's Gift to prevent Devoted Druid from dying.

#5: Lonis, Genetics Expert

Lonis, Genetics Expert

Number of Combos: 227

Deck Inclusions: 1,274 as commander (#1,209); 33,541 as card (2.15%)

Lonis, Genetics ExpertLonis, Genetics Expert creates Clue tokens whenever +1/+1 counters are placed on it, and places +1/+1 counters on other creatures when those Clues are sacrificed. Lonis creates several two-card combos using ExtruderExtruder or Yotian DissidentYotian Dissident, among others.

Lonis pairs perfectly with Piper Wright, Publick ReporterPiper Wright, Publick Reporter, who can put more counters on Lonis when Clues are sacrificed. You can sacrifice the Clues using their own abilities if mana allows or use a sacrifice outlet like Krark-Clan IronworksKrark-Clan Ironworks for extra results.

#4: Queen Allenal of Ruadach

Queen Allenal of Ruadach

Number of Combos: 255

Deck Inclusions: 1,274 as commander (#1,209); 33,541 as card (2.15%)

Queen Allenal of RuadachQueen Allenal of Ruadach increases the number of tokens you generate by giving you an additional 1/1 Soldier creature token whenever you create one or more creature tokens. While the token doesn't copy the originally created token (unlike Primal VigorPrimal Vigor or similar cards), Queen Allenal still works for many combos that simply need an extra creature to sacrifice for mana.

This includes combos with Tooth and ClawTooth and Claw, Sliver QueenSliver Queen and Ant QueenAnt Queen. It can also give extra triggers from Soul's AttendantSoul's Attendant or Blood ArtistBlood Artist style effects to counteract life payments.

#3: Tireless Provisioner / Nissa, Resurgent Animist

Tireless Provisioner
Nissa, Resurgent Animist

Number of Combos: 263 (Tireless); 199 (Nissa)

Deck Inclusions (Total): Over 400,000 decks

Many green decks center around landfall, making Tireless ProvisionerTireless Provisioner and Nissa, Resurgent AnimistNissa, Resurgent Animist excellent inclusions for mana ramping. Nissa gives you one mana whenever you have a land enter, and Tireless Provisioner either creates a Clue or Treasure token, which can then be sacrificed for mana as well.

Both of these effects are great to pay for abilities, like that of Springheart NantukoSpringheart Nantuko or Meloku the Clouded MirrorMeloku the Clouded Mirror. Tireless Provisioner's token can also be used to trigger Kodama of the East TreeKodama of the East Tree, allowing you to put an extra land into play.

#2: Jaheira, Friend of the Forest

Jaheira, Friend of the Forest

Number of Combos: 469

Deck Inclusions: 3,560 as commander; 136,050 as card (4%)

Jaheira, Friend of the ForestJaheira, Friend of the Forest turns all your tokens into ramping machines, allowing each token to tap and add . While creature tokens would need haste to take advantage of this immediately, noncreature tokens (like Clues and Foods) do not.

Academy ManufactorAcademy Manufactor is a perfect card to take advantage of this, allowing you to add up to for each token you'd normally create. You can also do this with creature tokens if they have haste or if you have a haste enabler on the battlefield, allowing token generators such as Spawnsire of UlamogSpawnsire of Ulamog to become infinite combo engines.

#1: Mana Creatures

Selvala, Heart of the Wilds
Bloom Tender
Marwyn, the Nurturer

Number of Combos: Over 800 total

Perhaps what Elves in Magic are best known for is being mana "dorks," an informal term given to a creature that can tap to produce mana. There are dozens of Elves that tap for mana, many of which tap for multiple mana each time.

Some examples include Selvala, Heart of the WildsSelvala, Heart of the Wilds, Marwyn, the NurturerMarwyn, the Nurturer, and Bloom TenderBloom Tender among many others. These cards are very easy to combo with cards that can take mana to untap them, including Sword of the ParunsSword of the Paruns and Staff of DominationStaff of Domination. There are plenty of other ways to untap the creatures as well, including Najeela, the Blade-BlossomNajeela, the Blade-Blossom or Aggravated AssaultAggravated Assault.

Having large amounts of mana makes combos far easier to execute, and besides, who doesn't want lots of mana anyways? Just make sure there isn't a Yurlok of Scorch ThrashYurlok of Scorch Thrash on the battlefield and you're set.
