Welcome back to Wombo Combo, the Internet's premier publication to discover Commander's best combo cards, with the assistance of Commander Spellbook and EDHREC. In this edition, we delve into the magical set of Avatar: The Last Airbender!

Aang, at the Crossroads
Fire Lord Zuko
Appa, Aang's Companion

Avatar is a beloved franchise which makes its introductory appearance in Magic in two sets: a main set and the Eternal set, designed for eternal formats like Commander. While both sets have their own roster of cards, both have some extremely fruitful cards for infinite combos and win conditions.

Let's delve into the four kingdoms of Avatar, and see which nation will prevail for our purposes.

#10: Solid Ground

Solid Ground

Number of Combos: 37

Solid GroundSolid Ground builds on the foundation laid by Hardened ScalesHardened Scales and similar cards, placing an additional +1/+1 counter on permanents you control when they get counters. It creates an easy game-winning combo with Walking BallistaWalking Ballista and VigorVigor, putting infinite counters on Walking Ballista that can then be removed for infinite damage.

The enchantment can also be used with Spike FeederSpike Feeder in some infinite lifegain combos.

#9: Badgermole Cub

Badgermole Cub

Number of Combos: 40

Badgermole CubBadgermole Cub's first ability allows it to earthbend (aka animate with an ability that recurs when the permanent dies) itself if Ashaya, Soul of the WildAshaya, Soul of the Wild is on the battlefield, making for an easy new combo piece for Ashaya. Badgermole Cub also allows your animated lands to add an additional when they're tapped for mana, providing solid ramp for earthbending and land animation decks.

This additional mana can also enable combos using creatures like Pili-PalaPili-Pala to provide infinite mana for your favorite payoff card.

#8: Beifong's Bounty Hunters

Beifong's Bounty Hunters

Number of Combos: 57

Beifong's Bounty HuntersBeifong's Bounty Hunters will earthbend a land whenever a nonland creature dies. While the ability is designed in a way to not endlessly recur the same creature, there are creatures we can use to be infinitely recurred.

BloodghastBloodghast can recur itself whenever the animated land dies, and Baloth PrimeBaloth Prime can make a creature that can be sacrificed to trigger Beifong's Bounty Hunters. You can also animate Khalni GardenKhalni Garden which will create a creature token that can be sacrificed as it enters.

#7: Appa, Steadfast Guardian

Appa, Steadfast Guardian

Number of Combos: 73

Appa, Steadfast GuardianAppa, Steadfast Guardian features Aang's loyal companion in an extremely strong card, allowing you to airbend any number of permanents, thus exiling them with the ability to cast them from exile by paying each. This cost can easily be reduced by cards like Doc Aurlock, Grizzled GeniusDoc Aurlock, Grizzled Genius or Semblance AnvilSemblance Anvil, allowing you to cast the cards for free.

This opens up a litany of combo possibilities with other airbending cards, like Aang, Airbending MasterAang, Airbending Master, and other blinking cards, like Restoration AngelRestoration Angel. Appa can also be blinked by Displacer KittenDisplacer Kitten, allowing you to constantly airbend mana rocks like Chromatic OrreryChromatic Orrery for infinite mana.

#6: Haru, Hidden Talent

Haru, Hidden Talent

Number of Combos: 74

Haru, Hidden TalentHaru, Hidden Talent has a triggered ability that allows you to earthbend whenever an Ally enters under your control. This ability pairs perfectly with Retreat to EmeriaRetreat to Emeria, which has a landfall trigger that creates a 1/1 Kor Ally creature token when a land enters under your control.

Since earthbending creates an ability to recur the land, you can sacrifice it to Zuran OrbZuran Orb or another outlet, and then return it and earthbend it again due to Haru and Retreat to Emeria. You can also earthbend a land that can sacrifice itself, including Cabaretti CourtyardCabaretti Courtyard and other fetch lands.

#5: White Lotus Tile

White Lotus Tile

Number of Combos: 75

White Lotus TileWhite Lotus Tile plays into Avatar lore while also being a nod to Magic's most infamous card, Black LotusBlack Lotus. White Lotus Tile is a strong mana rock for kindred decks, adding more and more mana as you play creatures that share a common creature type. It works in combos the same way most mana rocks do, including cards like Trazyn the InfiniteTrazyn the Infinite, Myr WelderMyr Welder, and Voltaic ConstructVoltaic Construct if you animate it.

White Lotus Tile is also a perfect way to turn infinite artifact untapping into infinite mana that can cast Walking BallistaWalking Ballista or another win condition.

#4: Long Feng, Grand Secretariat

Long Feng, Grand Secretariat

Number of Combos: 83

Long Feng, Grand SecretariatLong Feng, Grand Secretariat is a simple, yet strong combo commander that puts a +1/+1 counter on a creature whenever a creature or artifact dies under your control. This creates a two-card combo with Basking BroodscaleBasking Broodscale, and three-card combos with Scurry OakScurry Oak or Herd BalothHerd Baloth and a sacrifice outlet.

You can also use the counter to trigger Animation ModuleAnimation Module to create Servos. Long Feng's counters can also counteract persist abilities from Putrid GoblinPutrid Goblin and similar cards, allowing an infinite combo if you control two of them with a sacrifice outlet.

If you're interested in building Long Feng, check out my deck tech, which also contains 29 infinite combos!

#3: Toph, the First Metalbender

Toph, the First Metalbender

Number of Combos: 104

Toph, the First MetalbenderToph, the First Metalbender is a unique card that causes nontoken artifacts to become lands, and gives the ability to earthbend those artifacts or lands. This ability can create some pretty sinister (and relationship ending) combos, where you just recur MindslaverMindslaver over and over again to always control an opponent during their turn.

Toph also allows big mana rocks to be untapped by Candelabra of TawnosCandelabra of Tawnos, which also includes Candelabra untapping itself for an easy combo. Earthbending Ugin's NexusUgin's Nexus allows you to get infinite turns with the right setup.

#2: Monk Gyatso

Monk Gyatso

Number of Combos: 165

Monk GyatsoMonk Gyatso is a perfect card for protecting pieces from removal, and a surprisingly strong combo engine. You can use -cost targeted abilities from Lancers en-KorLancers en-Kor (and similar variants) or Equipment like Lightning GreavesLightning Greaves to trigger Monk Gyatso.

You can then airbend a variety of creatures, like Priest of GixPriest of Gix, to gain back the to spend on casting the spell. Similarly to Appa, you can also include cost reducers to bring the cost down to , making easy infinite combos as a result.

#1: The Legend of Kuruk // Avatar Kuruk

The Legend of Kuruk

Number of Combos: 170

The Legend of KurukThe Legend of Kuruk's back side is extremely useful for infinite turn combos, allowing you to waterbend to take an extra turn. Waterbending allows you to reduce the cost by by tapping a creature or artifact you control, and you can do this as many times while paying the cost. This is similar to convoke when casting a spell.

While Avatar Kuruk's ability is an exhaust ability that can only be activated once, there's a plethora of ways to get around this. You can steal the ability using Quicksilver ElementalQuicksilver Elemental each turn, or blink a Clone effect each turn for a similar effect. You can also blink Avatar Kuruk and transform it again, using proliferate cards like Lulu, Stern GuardianLulu, Stern Guardian and Contagion EngineContagion Engine. You can then tap artifacts and/or creatures to lower the cost as needed.
