The Magic: The Gathering Design Team held a preview panel at MagicCon Atlanta on September 26th on the Mana Stage. The team laid out the plans for set releases through the end of 2026, including seven full set releases next year.
Let's take a look at everything revealed at the panel.
Lorwyn Eclipsed
First up on the preview panel was the first set of 2026, and our return to the plane of Lorwyn, with Lorwyn Eclipsed. This single set will encompass both the light and dark of the plane.
Many new cards were revealed at the panel, but let's start with the reprint of a cycle that we saw only half of in Edge of Eternities, and that's the beloved Shocklands:
These five complete the cycle, and so all ten Shocklands will once again be Standard-legal when this set releases in January.
The panel also showed off some new legendary creatures to lead your Commander decks:
Stay tuned for deck techs around these new commanders very soon.
Here are the rest of the cards previewed at the panel:
In these previews we see the addition of more evoke Elemental Incarnations, a continuation of a cycle from Modern Horizons 2. There are also nods to the past, with Bitterbloom BearerBitterbloom Bearer being a creature version of the Commander staple BitterblossomBitterblossom, and Figure of FableFigure of Fable harkening back to Figure of DestinyFigure of Destiny from Eventide.
Here are some additional pieces of art revealed from the set:
Lorwyn Eclipsed will release on January 23rd, with a wide product line, including the usual Play and Collector Boosters, a nine-pack Bundle, and two new Commander precons.
One precon is five-color, titled Dance of the Elements, which appears to be themed around Elementals.
The other precon is Jund () and titled Blight Curse. All we know so far about these precons is what's visible on the box. So stay tuned for more details.
They also introduced a new Draft Night product, which will start with Lorwyn Eclipsed, which has everything you need to host a Pick-Two Draft event for four players, including basic lands, tokens, and even a Collector Booster to give away at the end. The Draft Night product is expected to be included with each set next year.
In addition, Wizards will be releasing two new Theme Decks with Lorwyn Eclipsed, though they're not themed around the set. The two decks are titled Angles and Pirates, and will be 60-card Standard-legal packs. Expect more Theme Decks to be released with other sets throughout the year.
TBA Universes Beyond Set for March
The next set in the 2026 lineup is a Universes Beyond product that will be announced at New York Comic Con next month on October 10th. This should be the Nickelodeon collaboration we mentioned in an earlier article. No new information was given about this set in Atlanta, so stay tuned next month for more details.
Secrets of Strixhaven
Next up is Secrets of Strixhaven, which brings us back to the plane of Arcavios, which we first visited in Strixhaven: School of Mages.
Not much was revealed for the set, though we know the students will be exploring more of the off-campus surroundings. We also received this key art.
But more exciting than the miniscule details around the set was the reveal of a Magic novel: Strixhaven: Omens of Chaos.
This novel, by Seanan McGuire, is expected to be released around the same time as Secrets of Strixhaven, and will include a Command Tower promo card.
Secrets of Strixhaven will be released in April of 2026.
Marvel Super Heroes
The first Universes Beyond set of 2026 will come in June, and will be the second set of Magic's collaboration with Marvel. Marvel Super Heroes draws upon characters from the entire Marvel universe, including several super villains as well.
No cards were revealed for the set, but we got several more pieces of art to show us what to expect in the set
Nothing else is known about Marvel Super Heroes at this time, so stay tuned as more information comes closer to the set's release in June.
The Hobbit
That's right friends! Next year we'll be returning to Middle-earth to relive the tale of Bilbo, Thorin, and Gandalf as they seek to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from Smaug.
The announcement of this set was teased on Magic's social media sites just a few days ago. No cards were revealed at the panel, but we have a few pieces of art to show you.
Stay tuned for more details closer to the set's release in August.
Reality Fracture
Not much was revealed about this in-universe set aside from the name, and the fact that it's an "event" set wrapping up the story arc that began with Outlaws of Thunder Junction. The set will be released in October.
Star Trek
Yes! There will be a surprise seventh set in 2026, our fourth Universes Beyond set for the year. The reveal of the Star Trek logo to the crowd in Atlanta was met with rapturous applause and cheers.
No cards were revealed, but once again we have some art to share.
The set will feature characters and stories from the entire Star Trek franchise, and will be released in November of 2026.
