Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man Eternal offer up a whopping 93 new cards you could build Commander decks around, including a fair number of uncommon legends to helm budget builds. Given how many legendary creatures Wizards of the Coast (WotC) push out each year, it can be tough to keep up with all the options.
I'm here to help! I've got over 30 years experience playing multiplayer Magic, and nearly 18 years playing and writing about EDH/Commander. So I combed through the list and leveraged my expertise to highlight 15 new legends that stand head and shoulders above the rest in terms of power, fun, or both.
While I like Spider-Man, I'm not a superfan, so I'm evaluating these specifically for how they will play as Magic game pieces for Commander.
Ready to sling into action?
Peter ParkerPeter Parker
It seems appropriate to kick things off with Peter ParkerPeter Parker, AKA the Amazing Spider-Man. Since this is a dual-faced card you can play either side of it from the command zone, but I would typically cast the back side first, and use the Peter Parker side to help get around commander tax later in the game.
The back side has solid stats: a 4/4 with vigilance and reach for four mana. But the rest of the text box is why we'd be playing this: it gives web-slinging to other legendary spells we cast that are one or more colors.
Web-slinging is an alternate casting cost where you may cast a spell for the mana value indicated if you also return a tapped creature you control to its owner's hand. If you want to use your power for evil you can web-sling Eldrazi like Ulamog, the Ceaseless HungerUlamog, the Ceaseless Hunger for three mana and still get that cast trigger. If you want to use your powers for good, you could cheat out something like Zetalpa, Primal DawnZetalpa, Primal Dawn.
Don't overlook the fact that it gives web-slinging to any legendary spell - not just creatures - so you could use it to cast Avacyn's MemorialAvacyn's Memorial or planeswalkers like Nissa, Ascended AnimistNissa, Ascended Animist.

Gwenom, RemorselessGwenom, Remorseless
If you've ever wanted Bolas's CitadelBolas's Citadel in your command zone, then Gwenom, RemorselessGwenom, Remorseless is the legendary creature you've been waiting for! You do have to attack with her first, but you can run ways to give haste, like Lightning GreavesLightning Greaves or Crashing DrawbridgeCrashing Drawbridge.
Casting spells for life rather than mana is very powerful, but you'll want ways other than Gwenom's lifelink to recoup your life so you can keep the no-mana spell train rolling. Aetherflux ReservoirAetherflux Reservoir is a must, and I'd look for cards like Gray Merchant of AsphodelGray Merchant of Asphodel, Consuming CorruptionConsuming Corruption, and CorruptCorrupt for added life boost.
You'll also want to have ways to reset the top of your library in case you run across too many lands, or spells you don't yet want to cast. Sensei's Divining TopSensei's Divining Top is perfect since you can tap it to draw the card you don't want to cast, and then recast the Top for one life. You can find some other fun options like LembasLembas or high-power options like NecropotenceNecropotence.
Norman OsbornNorman Osborn
Norman OsbornNorman Osborn, AKA Green Goblin, is another dual-faced card where either side can be played from the command zone. In this particular case, I could see casting the front side first since he becomes an engine for drawing and discarding a card to start filling up the graveyard.
This makes a great enabler for powerful reanimator strategies, along with spells you can cast from the graveyard for a discount if you've transformed to the Green Goblin side. Its Goblin Formula ability of giving nonland cards in your graveyard mayhem will only work if you've got another discard outlet, but there are tons of those available in the Grixis colors, like Frantic SearchFrantic Search and Faithless LootingFaithless Looting.
And if you want to stay on theme, there are cards like Green Goblin, RevenantGreen Goblin, Revenant, Shadow of the GoblinShadow of the Goblin, and Ultimate Green GoblinUltimate Green Goblin.
Symbiote Spider-ManSymbiote Spider-Man
Symbiote Spider-ManSymbiote Spider-Man caught my eye because of the Find New Host ability. If you've got ways to sacrifice it - such as Ashnod's AltarAshnod's Altar, which will give you two of the three mana you'll need for that ability - you can exile it (and put it back in the command zone) to give its combat damage ability to an evasive creature like Invisible StalkerInvisible Stalker.
And since it's digging into your library and putting cards into the graveyard, it could be another option for Reanimator strategies.

Eddie BrockEddie Brock
We've got another dual-face card with Eddie BrockEddie Brock AKA Venom, Lethal Protector. The front side has the interesting ability to reanimate a creature card with mana value one or less in your graveyard, but I expect the best line of play is to cast the Venom side first once you've got one or two good fodder for its sacrifice effect.
Since Venom has haste, you'll hopefully get to use it right away to draw some cards and put a permanent onto the battlefield. One of my all-time favorite cards, Weatherseed TreefolkWeatherseed Treefolk, seems perfect for this since you can sacrifice it, and then get it back to potentially put onto the battlefield again and again.
I might also look for creatures with undying, like Flayer of the HateboundFlayer of the Hatebound, or persist, like Puppeteer CliquePuppeteer Clique, that you can sacrifice twice.
Sandman, Shifting ScoundrelSandman, Shifting Scoundrel
Sandman, Shifting ScoundrelSandman, Shifting Scoundrel is really cool because its got a built-in way to come back from your graveyard so you can often bypass commander tax if it dies. Plus, when it comes back from the graveyard it brings a land back with it. So once Sandman gets hit with an exile effect, you'll already have some or all of the commander tax covered.
I've got an entire deck tech written about Sandman, Shifting ScoundrelSandman, Shifting Scoundrel that should be out this week, so be sure to check it out if you're curious for more!
Cosmic Spider-ManCosmic Spider-Man
If you're looking for a deck to jam all the versions of Spider-Man and the other Spider Heroes from this set, Cosmic Spider-ManCosmic Spider-Man is here to make it easy.
It has flying, first strike, trample, lifelink, and haste, and at the beginning of combat on your turn, other Spiders you control gain all those keywords too. All that lifelink ensures that you're winning the combat damage race.
You could also just make this the commander for your Spider typal deck, and squeeze in classics like Shelob, Dread WeaverShelob, Dread Weaver, Spinner of SoulsSpinner of Souls, and Ishkanah, GrafwidowIshkanah, Grafwidow.
Another approach is to stuff the deck full of creatures with the changeling ability, like Unsettled MarinerUnsettled Mariner and Taurean MaulerTaurean Mauler, and then toss in some "lords" like Reaper KingReaper King and Voja, Jaws of the ConclaveVoja, Jaws of the Conclave.
Tie it all together with cards like Maskwood NexusMaskwood Nexus and Leyline of TransformationLeyline of Transformation.
Anti-Venom, Horrifying HealerAnti-Venom, Horrifying Healer
Anti-Venom, Horrifying HealerAnti-Venom, Horrifying Healer is a cool collection of abilities tied into a card that gives you a whopping five pips for devotion to white, so dust off Heliod, Sun-CrownedHeliod, Sun-Crowned and Heliod, God of the SunHeliod, God of the Sun! And that enters ability to reanimate any creature from your graveyard is awesome! Sun TitanSun Titan does so much work for a white deck, so it's nice to have a commander that will bring it back when it dies.
But what really shines here is Anti-Venom's ability to turn damage dealt to it into +1/+1 counters. Damage redirection cards like Shaman en-KorShaman en-Kor and Pariah's ShieldPariah's Shield will set up tough situations for your opponents to puzzle out. Of course the dream would be to unlock the first station ability of Dawnsire, Sunstar DreadnoughtDawnsire, Sunstar Dreadnought and have it deal 100 damage to Anti-Venom while attacking to give it 100 +1/+1 counters!
Jeff Girten has a really unique Anti-Venom build here.
Scarlet Spider, Ben ReillyScarlet Spider, Ben Reilly
There are two interesting considerations for creatures to put in a deck with Scarlet Spider, Ben ReillyScarlet Spider, Ben Reilly as your commander. First are creatures with nifty enters abilities like Wall of BlossomsWall of Blossoms and Reclamation SageReclamation Sage, or those you won't mind replaying again like Wall of RootsWall of Roots.
Second, look for ways you can put a high mana-value creature onto the battlefield cheaply, with the gold standard being Sneak AttackSneak Attack. There's also the new warp ability on cards like Anticausal VestigeAnticausal Vestige and Nova HellkiteNova Hellkite to consider.
Then there's cards like Ghalta, Primal HungerGhalta, Primal Hunger that discounts the amount of mana you need to cast it, all the way to something like Allosaurus RiderAllosaurus Rider that has an alternate way to cast it early.
You'll also want to have ways to ensure the creatures you want to web-sling are tapped, either by giving them haste (Enduring CourageEnduring Courage) or tapping them for mana (Springleaf DrumSpringleaf Drum), or tapping to crew, saddle, or station (Smuggler's CopterSmuggler's Copter, Calamity, Galloping InfernoCalamity, Galloping Inferno, or Exploration BroodshipExploration Broodship, respectively).
Black Cat, Cunning ThiefBlack Cat, Cunning Thief
If you're a fan of Gonti, Lord of LuxuryGonti, Lord of Luxury, you're gonna love Black Cat, Cunning ThiefBlack Cat, Cunning Thief. For one mana more you get to look at nine cards from target opponent's library and get to exile two of them to play later. You do lose out on deathtouch, but having opponents be less worried about attacking you makes Black Cat a much better chump blocker since you'll want to cast her again and again.
Just keep in mind this sort of card is best used for in-person games; resolving that ability in a virtual game using something like Spelltable is incredibly awkward.
Lady Octopus, Inspired InventorLady Octopus, Inspired Inventor
I imagine Lady Octopus, Inspired InventorLady Octopus, Inspired Inventor is going to be a very popular commander for high-power artifact strategies. Lady only costs one mana to cast, and can easily start to accumulate ingenuity counters so you can cast increasingly more expensive artifacts for no mana.
Blue has a ton of artifact synergies and ways to draw extra cards to fuel this card's engines. Thank goodness Paradox EngineParadox Engine is banned in Commander!
Mister NegativeMister Negative
I love high-mana commanders like Mister NegativeMister Negative, and it has a powerful effect that justifies its cost. The main way you'll want to play is to target an opponent with lower life than you so it becomes a card-drawing engine, so you'll want to leverage all the various ways that white and black have to gain life and deal damage before you cast it.
Cards like Soul WardenSoul Warden and Kambal, Consul of AllocationKambal, Consul of Allocation can keep your life total high, while cards like Bloodletter of AclazotzBloodletter of Aclazotz and Tree of PerditionTree of Perdition can keep an opponent's life total low.
Hydro-Man, Fluid FelonHydro-Man, Fluid Felon
If you like playing a Spellslinger style of deck in mono-blue Hydro-Man, Fluid FelonHydro-Man, Fluid Felon might be a dream come true for you. It's basically a mana ramp spell for just two mana that starts in your command zone, though you'll only have that extra mana on your opponents' turns since it will turn back into a creature at the beginning of your turn.
It's worth noting that its +1/+1 boost ability works specifically for blue spells, so you'll want to set up a big turn with spells like High TideHigh Tide and PalinchronPalinchron to get a surprise win with combat damage.
Spider-Man, Miles MoralesSpider-Man, Miles Morales
If you want a smash-face mono-green deck with some amount of +1/+1 counter synergies, Spider-Man, Miles MoralesSpider-Man, Miles Morales makes for an excellent choice. It's especially nice that its ability triggers when it attacks, so you'll get that benefit even if it doesn't survive the attack.
Giving creatures trample means you'll be better able to push damage through to draw cards with Toski, Bearer of SecretsToski, Bearer of Secrets. And trample combines quite well with deathtouch, so you'll want cards like Ohran FrostfangOhran Frostfang and Bow of NyleaBow of Nylea.
You're going to love adding +1/+1 counters to Incubation DruidIncubation Druid and Kami of Whispered HopesKami of Whispered Hopes for more mana production.
Nicholas Lucchesi has a sweet deck tech for Miles.
Venom, Deadly DevourerVenom, Deadly Devourer
Venom, Deadly DevourerVenom, Deadly Devourer offers up a fun deckbuilding puzzle: How do you get high toughness creatures into a graveyard and then exile them for a big boost of +1/+1 counters on a Symbiote you control (like Venom itself)?
You'll want to play high toughness creatures yourself, and the two that immediately jumped to mind were Tree of RedemptionTree of Redemption and Tree of PerditionTree of Perdition. There's also Death's ShadowDeath's Shadow and - if you're lucky enough to own one - Phyrexian DreadnoughtPhyrexian Dreadnought, which are easy to get into the graveyard.
And how about the new Ancient AdamantoiseAncient Adamantoise, which will protect your life total for a while before it makes its way into the graveyard?
Hierophant Bio-TitanHierophant Bio-Titan is a fun card that synergizes with the +1/+1 counters to be cast for less mana, and once it ends up in the graveyard it can represent twelve +1/+1 counters to Venom's ability.
Other than Venom, Deadly DevourerVenom, Deadly Devourer giving itself those counters, you'll probably want to run Gwenom, RemorselessGwenom, Remorseless because of the Symbiote's lifelink, making that extra size boost help pad your life total.

Which new legends from Marvel's Spider-Man and Marvel's Spider-Man Eternal are you most excited to build around?
